I am so overwhelmed with how my idea turned into reality and how good of a job that Caleb did. I just cannot thank you guys enough!!! A tip just doesn't explain how happy I was when I saw the finished product and once it is all healed up I am thinking it will be the topic of conversation wherever I go and trust me all the glory and praise will go to Iron Age Tattoo and Caleb. Also Bayle at the front desk was so nice in email and on the phone or I would not have come 75 miles up there, so Bayle's contribution is huge to the success of the store. I had the idea but could not even think of a way for graphics or a way to explain what I wanted or to anyone who would see the tattoo. My idea was on a tombstone there is a date of birth, then a "DASH" (-) then the date of death. My idea was our life is the dash between those two dates, like the DASH is, while we are on this earth, what we have done, and with some the legacy we leave behind. I sent a very detailed email to Bayle the front desk, who checks out their contact emails, about my dilemma I didn't want just a - as a tattoo with an explanation I needed a graphic design that would explain what I meant and no amount of thinking on my part could come up with anything. In comes Caleb the Master of all tattoo designs and the artist that truly understands it is a lifetime marking, Caleb came back with a couple designs and he nailed it. I was able to carry on small talk conversation and I waited till he was completely done till I took a look. I was amazed and went to a couple people and asked them what my Tattoo meant and without me having to explain each person knew exactly what I meant without me having to explain my idea. Caleb gave me a couple breaks because the way my arm was for him to do the tattoo my hand kept going to sleep, I saw that Caleb loved what he was doing and this was no stock tattoo, it had to be designed and for right now, one of a kind. Which I understand he does a lot of one of a kind tattoos. I am amazed at the Tattoo artist, the customer service, the response time to email and phone, the very sterile and professional shop and the attitude of the entire shop. Their pride in their work and their experience was evident. I would highly recommend their store for new tattoos, fixing tattoos, and pretty much their experience at designing. I trusted them and of course you get one shot at this life long marking. I will definitely go back and this is just my second Tattoo and the first they have done. Their work, Calebs work is second to none, now just because of their professionalism I am already dreaming up some other tattoo Caleb and I can tell you now I will not have tattoos all over my body but I am going to get more, I absolutely love mine, On my left shoulder. 1 star only because there is no lower rating. Prior to this experience I've already received 12 tattoos done, 11 by the artist I have sworn by for 7 years. This was largely an impulse drop-in when out with some friends, but reminded me why I'll never go to any other artist. I wanted two simple all-black 'flash' style tattoos behind my ears, about 1"x1" each; one tribute to music and one tribute to cooking. I am very loyal to my regular artist, but I figured anyone could bang this out pretty easy. They seemed very underwhelmed at my idea / explanation (trying to 'connect' with these people), but they rolled their eyes and said they would ask around for an artist that "felt like taking care of it." Talked to 2 different artists. First one had such a nasty, condescending attitude about "not usually doing small little junk pieces" and kept asking if "as a dude, you really wanna be walkin around with some girly shit on your head?" Otherwise quoted me "at least $160." Asked to talk to a different artist, who was much more stoic and quiet, said he wouldn't have a problem doing it, it'd be $150 -- the supposed 'shop minimum.' $150 for 20 minutes of work? What a crock. I brought in my drawings, which were straight line, single-black, and already to the size I wanted -- again, this wasn't my first ink rodeo. This place had the stereotypical arrogant stench that keeps so many people from getting their 2nd, 3rd or more tattoos. I walked out, waited a week for my regular artist to be back from vacation and he knocked them both out in 20 minutes. Perfect lines, perfect black, sharp lines, can't tell where the needle started and stopped -- just like always. Pricing was NO WHERE NEAR $150, lol. The rest of my review is based on the ink I've seen others wear from them -- the great of what i see is 'Ed Hardy' type of flash with smaller pieces that are heavy on color, but done well. The bad of what I've seen is poor saturation, lack of dimension, weak shading, and . . . it just doesn't seem like this is a place to go for something custom because it's either a lack of talent or a general apathy for things that don't interest them. Whatever the case, go see any of the artists at St. Louis Tattoo Co. in Chesterfield Valley -- hands down some of the best, most down to Earth artists in Missouri, they will be very honest with you about your ideas and placements, will work with you and will take amazing care of you. Got my first tattoo here with Trevor Collis. He was phenomenal, friendly, understanding, and made getting inked a great experience. It started off with the consultation, where he asked me what I wanted, looked at my source material, and talked me through what he was thinking of doing and where on my body the tattoo would work best. He was more than willing to work with my needs as a healthcare professional, where having visible tattoos can be detrimental. After setting up my appointment, he gave me his number so we could keep in touch via text. I texted him a few times, mostly in the week before my appointment, with questions about how to prepare and what to expect (I was very anxious). He responded promptly and with very helpful information that made me feel more at ease with the process. He also sent me the design via text the day before so I could verify it and suggest any changes. On the day of my tattoo he took me into his studio and explained exactly how the process was going to work. He started the design with short lines to get me accustomed to the feeling, and checked in frequently to make sure I was doing okay. He explained what he was doing as he was doing it, so I always knew what was going on. After my initial anxiety, we got a good banter going and ended up talking a lot about many other subjects besides the tattoo. When he was done, he gave me comprehensive aftercare instructions, and told me to text him with any questions. Technically, his work is beautiful. My design was very heavy on accurate line work (a line of music on a staff with lyrics in script below it) and it looks impeccable. He did a beautiful job with the basic design, and his shading work really brought it to life. I will definitely be going back to him for more ink, and I would give him the highest recommendation to anyone else. read more

I can't say enough good things about Iron Age. They really are the best in the city. I've had 4 of my 6 piercings done here, all by Scott (he's great!) and all of my tattoos were done here as well. When I travel home to the Lou, I usually hit up the shop several times. My first few tattoos were walk-in's, little flash pieces, and one I had drawn at home and brought in. Though they were small (and probably pretty easy), I didn't feel like the kids at the front desk were judging me for not being covered in ink. Most of my ink was done by Chappy, and I can't recommend his work enough. He does great custom work and nice flash-y pieces on request. He makes you feel really comfortable and he's personable. He's available by appointment, but still does walk-ins on occasion. Lil J did a nice text piece on my ribs (which, yeah, hurts!) and he was very accommodating, and a pretty funny dude. I have no complaints. And when I've needed a touch-up, I just contact my artist and schedule a time. On the piercing front, I've only interacted with Scott, except for some jewelry purchases. He's very knowledgeable and professional. Sure, there may be some jokes flown around, but I expect that differs by the client (and, honestly, wouldn't it be weird for someone to grope your nipples for fifteen minutes without cracking an joke?). If you make them feel comfortable, they'll relax a bit (while still treating your modification with the utmost precision). I've had only good experiences at Iron Age. If you're in the St. Louis area and you want a quality body modification, get out your wallet and pay for it! read more

The perfect place to get piercings. Hands down. I have 9 piercings on my left ear, and 3 on my right. All but one were done at the traditional stand in the mall. I had nothing but horrible luck at the mall, so after a friend of mine got a tattoo down at iron age, I decided it couldn't be any worse than a corporate chain in malls across the U.S. I was glad I tried Iron Age. I went in for a cartilage piercing (It was my second total). I explained to the pierce that I had sensitive skin and I had to use something that had no nickle. He was super kind and took the time to explain to me how, though he did not have my metal of choice (white gold, since its one thing from other piercings I know is safe), he had surgical steel,, which was just as good. And honestly? I love it. He was careful when he pierced me, and I felt virtually no pain. A friend of mine came with me and sat in the room and even he was amazed how the guy just kept us talking and laughing to avoid any sort of discomfort on my part. Rest assured, I will be returning to finish my piercings out there and with him. He was so experienced in his job that I had no soreness, no infections in the piercing, nothing. It was the first time in my life through all my piercings it felt so good that I was able to actually sleep on the earring that night with no horrifying shocking pain. I admit it is a bit pricey, but I find it every bit worth it. read more

I absolutely love this shop. I have been coming here for nearly two years now with my fiance. He's been coming here even longer and is nearly covered form head to toe. Jason James is my go-to artist and I don't want to get tattoos anywhere else. He's done both sides of my head, and a few other small pieces for me and I absolutely love them. Shop is always super clean. Awesome music playing. Accommodating and very chill staff. The girls at the front desk have awesome attitudes and are really great with handling the jewelry and supplies when they're showing you their items/selling to you. I'm always smiled at and welcomed (sometimes with hugs!) from the staff. Carson, Kino, and Jason have worked on my fiance and he absolutely loves them. Every time I go in with an idea, Jason always knows how to make it better. Everything is always so much better than I envisioned. He makes sure to talk me through the design process and works out something amazing in the end every time. If you want a tattoo or a piercing, go to this shop! Aftercare talk for all services is amazing. Tattoo lines are clean and every piece of art I've had looks amazing after it's healed. I got a tattoo there and this was the most amazing experience. I have 7 tattoos and decided to get a bigger piece. I looked at the portofolios of almost all the artists in every single shop in St Louis and decided that Jason Bane was the best fit for what I wanted. I went to book an appointment and everyone was really nice. When I came for the tattoo itself, everyone was very helpful and welcoming. People are criticizing the attitude of the ones working there but I felt that they all were really happy to be there and do their jobs and enjoyed it. While I was getting tattooed they came in the little booth and talked with the artist but never ignored me, instead including me in their conversations. Jason Bane was fantastic, and the tattoo is just awesome. I've also read comments about how people that are not heavily tattooed are disregarded. I didn't feel that way. My tattoos were all hiden by my coat and I definitely don't look like the type of girl that is tattooed yet they all listened to what I wanted, and helped as best I could have hoped for. I would definitely recommend going there and get tattooed. The people working there, the work they do and the energy in the shop itself are just fantastic ! I have gotten several tattoos from Iron Age and a couple of them being by Jason. This isn't the mall and you aren't paying them to be your friend. He is def rough around the edges but he also makes sure you know exactly what you are getting and doesn't beat around the bush. A couple ideas I have tossed around with him have changed and morphed into something that I wanted as well as something he could be proud to put his name on. A tattoo artist is just that, an artist, and they want to present work that they can be proud of. These guys know what they're doing and Jason isn't new to this. His experience speaks volumes and if you take the time to have the discussion with him the collaboration is worth it! And for alllll the reviews I've seen about being treated differently because you don't have visible ink-give me a break. I am a whopping 5'4, pale af with long blond hair and def stick out there. My back is almost completely covered in tattoos but you'd never know it looking at me. However out of all the work I've had done there(4 massive pieces) I have never once been treated differently because you don't see my tattoos. It's in your head and you're putting your own insecurities on others. You should stop. read more

Went in to get a new tattoo today and had a great time chatting with the staff. They had just opened, were getting their things ready for the day and were happy as can be to crack jokes, discuss the art I wanted and make me feel at home. We discussed my tattoo idea honestly because a) it is a permanent addition to my body and b) the skin is a living canvas that has some quirks that paper doesn't. These things need to be taken into account. A good tattoo is a collaboration between the artist and the recipient. I didn't get a piercing done today, but their staff piercer Sid was fantastic to deal with. He was sorting equipment at the front desk, chatting with customers as they came in and simply exuded great humor and made me feel welcome. I honestly think he could talk to anyone about any topic. He's happy being himself and happy letting you be yourself. He had great camaraderie with the rest of the staff and made everyone coming through the door feel as though he'd known them for years and you'd dropped in to hang out and have a few beers. Like I said, I didn't get a piercing done today but if I were to get one in the future I know who I'll be requesting. read more

I've had nothing but a great experience every time i have been to the Iron Age Tattoo. The front people staff and artist have remembered me and they do always take a minute to say hey. It makes you feel really welcome. So cool! I've been getting my arm tattoos from this really funny guy, a dude named Jason. They call him TattooFace. You'll see why if you go! It's always been a blast of a time. I am glad i picked Jason out of the hat that day. Best surprise ever! Man, he has a very unique style. He will make the art design look better than anyone. No one makes my colors shine like him. Of all my tattoos I would have to say they are some of my favorite one. Numerous kind of people stop me to see his artwork on my arm. Even old people will ask me to show them. Thats blows my mind! They always mention to me how they love the colors and design! It's an amazingly good feeling. The people at Iron Age are as amazing as their tattoo work. I've worked with two different front girls, and they both have been understanding and very helpful. Haley was super helpful, kind, and talkative! I've also worked with two different tattoo artists. Kino was very nice and was easy to work with and made the tattoo experience very pleasant. Morgan was pleasant and very knowledgeable. Both Kino and Morgan took my ideas and suggested solutions to make my ideas even better. I was so pleased with their insight! Morgan made my experience very comfortable and kept me updated on the process. Iron Age is a great, clean place with a fun environment. I got my septum done here a little over a year ago, and the service was excellent (thank you, Caleb!). Came back last weekend to get my nipples pierced, and my piercer (Alex) was absolutely amazing. Given that it's such a sensitive/intimate piercing, I trusted that the people at Iron Age would make me feel comfortable and safe as they did with my septum, and boy did they deliver. Alex was super thoughtful about all things consent- and pain-related, and because of his transparency, I did not feel nervous. If I had more nipples, I would go out of my way to get them pierced with Alex at Iron Age. Truly so kind, did not feel uncomfortable at all even though I was shirtless with a stranger. A friend of mine told me abot the studio after having an artis back out on me when i was suspose to get my tattoo in Sep 10th. The next weekened i decied to do a walk-in at Iron Age!! it was the best choice i could have ever made. John (the frount guy) talked to me about getting what you want. He was awesome at answering the guestions that i had! My artis was Darren had he was really cool. He is super nice guy! He talked with me and my friend the whole time and really madegetting my first tattoo an awesome experience!!! I'll never go anywhere else!!! Ok I was not impressed when I called to make an appointment, when they said I said to come in first wiith my design then, come back. Living 3 hours away yes that did sux. Some miscommunciation on the phone was aggervating to me. But now once I arrived at shop with my son( who was getting thet tattoo,) I was pretty impressed, clean and friendly. We showed Jason what we wanted and in minutes he was back with the drawing, he rocks. My son wasnt the best person to tat, beings as it was his first, but Jason was great with him, talked to him the entire time. The tattoo looks great and it was a good price. Out of the places in St. Louis, I'd totally recommend Iron Age any day! They're super awesome, friendly, and everyone does a GREAT job! My first tattoo was done by Jason J. Let me mention it was my FIRST! I was really worried and nervous but, he was really super nice and made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire session. I had my one and only tat done at Iron Age by Trevor, He was very personable and made the time fly, My tat was done in two sessions, six hours total. My tat looks fantastic, I brought in a picture of a painting and Trevor did his magic to make it work. He was very professional, fast ,precise. I had a excellent experience and can't wait for the next one. Trevor is the man you want for a A+ quality tat. The cost of my tat was well worth it. I checked around and even visited some other shops but I ended up back at Iron Age. They are the best in St.Louis, you might find a cheaper shop, but not a better one. Came in as a walk-in to get my first ever tattoo with Chris Boyle. The receptionist was very kind as was Chris! Chris talked through the process with me, made sure I was well informed, even sketched out a design for me after talking through it with me that was much better than what I brought in. He took the time to make sure I was happy and didn't try to rush the process at all which was very nice. He also has done some amazing work on others and did a great job on my tattoo as well. Why would you even consider getting a tattoo elsewhere? Seriously, people. The talent of the artists at Iron Age is unmatched and you will leave there a happy camper! I just got my third tat (done by Brad Fink) and I am loving it! He did my first arm piece and Chappy did a small piece on my back a few years ago.
