Tusan Hotel - Ants in the bathroom...in winter.

Tusan Hotel

This may be a fine hotel for the summer months as it has a pool and a hot tub and overlooks the…read moreDardanelles, but my experience in Winter was sad. The room was large, I give it that, and a door opened onto a patio with chairs (again, nice in summer time, one would expect), but beyond that...I wouldn't stay here again. The carpet was flat, grimy, and had probably given up the ghost a decade ago. As you walked across the floor you could feel these odd dips and lumps and you really wondered what disaster the carpet was covering. It felt like there were clear potholes and cracks in the foundation. The curtains would not close fully as they were torn from some of the hooks and dangled miserably. I opened the patio door and it literally came off the hinges in my hand...the whole door. The bathroom. O. M. G. The bathtub has this dangerous slope to it and was clearly antiquated. There is a step up to the bathtub that is too small, tiled, slippery and sharp. Stepping out of the tub was hazardous...one slip on the narrow tile and you'd crack yourself on the razor sharp edge of the step. Parents, watch your children...or elderly. The grout throughout the bathroom was moldy and needed cleaning/replacement. And when I woke in the morning to brush my teeth there were ants all over the sink coming from someplace in the walls. Nice. The buffet dinner served during the winter was almost inedible, but that was probably due to the fact (giving the cook staff a break here) that they were having to serving tour groups all at once and so the food was mass produced, flavorless and unattractive. The deserts, horrific. The breakfast was standard but smaller than most hotels in Turkey and extremely unappetizing. The staff was generally unfriendly. The only positive I would give to this place was there was a bar/pub in the hotel that was somewhat inviting. The bartender, however, was as cold as the freezing temperatures outside. Finally, this place is located on the outskirts of Canakkale. It is not on the beach and it is distant from what appear to be a whole variety of restaurants serving good food along the ferry dock. So unless you've got your own vehicle or don't mind paying for a cab, you'll be stranded. Basically this is a Turkish Motel 6. It did have free wi-fi...which was slower than Congress.

Didn't stayed here. Came along as I was travelling along Canakkale visiting Troia Trojan Horse and…read moreAcropolis. Was figuring what fish menu and presentation we are going to have for our lunch when they drove in to the Tusan Hotel compound and was scratching my head as all I saw was a small house with a gift shop and restaurant. We were actually greeted warmly by the manager and his staff. They were really polite and all smiles with any assistance they could render to you though their English was not too good. Their attitude made up more than anything for their lack of English. We were shown into the restaurant and was further greeted with surprise at the number of tables inside and outside. The outside dining area has good views and were serene. As it was in May that we visited, we still had a good cool breeze with warm sunlight and it was more than bearable. It was a good weather combination. And then they started serving. First was the soup with the salads and bread. Then come the main course, the fish that came with some cheesy pasta and the butter rice. I was trying to figure how the taste would culminate but I was definitely not to be let down. As they were serving the fish, I already caught a whiff of the well fried fish. I was only worried about the amount of oil they use as it could change the way the fried fish tasted. It smell great and it tasted that way too! It was not too oily, not too "fishy smelly" and the meat was fresh! The butter rice and the pasta went beautifully with the fish and I couldn't stop myself from sharing a bit more from my wife's plate. The fish skin and meat came off beautifully and easily in one piece and tasted so fresh without the oily after taste. Ended with a dessert that I believe was a milk based pudding that was sweet that helped to negate some smell from your mouth after a fish meal. I truly enjoyed the meal and the environment at the hotel made it even better. I know I will come back and I believe I will give this hotel a stay over during the next visit and have this simple fish meal again. Simple yet done exceptionally well! In Turkish... "Lezzetli!!"
