Financial Quarter, City Centre

One of my first experiences of job-hunting in Leeds was here, and I can say, it was not great. I…read morerealise this was a while ago now, but it really put me off recruitment agencies. When I walked in I was told that I'd do a type test, since their recruitment was based solely around administration work. Then I would fill out the forms with all the usual, job history and so on. I did reasonably on my type test, although certainly not to the dizzy heights of 220 wpm (words per minute). Thinking that this would be a great starting point for gaining employment experience I sat and waited for the lady to come back to me, only to be told when she did that I didn't have the kind of experience they were looking for. At the time I was a little too timid to mention that, since I had only just graduated, I had come to them to *gain* that experience and wasn't that the whole point of a recruitment agency - for them to find me work and therefore gain experience via employment? I don't know, maybe at the time my application seemed poor, despite having gained a 3rd level qualification, you know - I like to think that my degree surely counts for something. It just seemed like one of those never ending conundrums, a chicken egg nightmare of "I need experience to get employed, but, I can't get experience without being given a job..." and so on ad ifinitum. Perhaps they have changed since, which is why I've give 3 stars and not 2, but for me it was a total non-starter.

I haved used Office Angels in the past and would use them again. They do test you when you get…read morethere but this is to ensure that you are capable of what you say you can do and suitable for the jobs they send you to. Too many agencies are happy to accept "attachments" online, which could have been provided by someone else. I'm not a great typist but have experience in a range of general office work and call centres. They have found me suitable work when I have needed it in the past, including well paid permanent work. I have always been paid on time and never felt that turning down a job I wasn't interested in would put me at a disadvantage.
