The hallow steps your boots sound on the century aged wood floor in the foyer should pique the energy of anyone about to model. Indeed, I was welcomed and immediately shown to a chair before several well lit mirrors. Everything was clean and orderly despite equipment being at the ready, light sources, reflectors, etc. Their rig seems top notch, and they edit on industry standard software. Erick shot my session. First, I needed a professional headshot. He took photos with several gradients of natural light vs artificial, and had me change coats and ties twice. Behind the camera, he has the disposition of a third base line coach, but like, the cool hippie dad. He knows when when to hold you back, and just as importantly, when push you to run for home plate. He directed me to positions and engaged me in parallel conversation that brought out genuine happiness, laughter, and poised aplomb. It's extraordinarily clear in my pictures. From the latter, I have the best professional headshot of my life. The former, Tinder. It's a super fun afternoon, and good headshots make good first impressions, make higher in the stack for all sorts of applications, auditions, tons of stuff. My first experience with Allen Tsai was when he photographed my sister's wedding. My sister…read moreherself, is a photographer. The second time I heard his name was at my best friend's wedding. HER photographer had also used Allen Tsai for her wedding. I decided to take some time and followed Allen's presence on social media and the internet. Turns out he's VERY decorated and has been featured a lot in publications. His clients are worldwide, and all the photographers I respect want HIM for the THEIR weddings. If he's the professional that all the other professionals use, I knew I was never going to entertain any other photographer. The second I got engaged, I told my wedding planner we had to secure Allen. And that's what we did. THANK GOD because it takes a special photographer to handle everything an everyone that was, My Wedding. I got married in Downtown Dallas and my wedding had very "city" vibes. I didn't want to have every "conventional" wedding party shot, and so I had tasked Allen with the burden of making my wedding photos look like "something off the cover of Vanity Fair." Not typically his route for weddings, and also confined to a VERY tight timeline, somehow, Allen was able to execute my vision. More than that, every shot from the reception is PERFECT. The lighting was consistent in every shot (and let me tell you, the lights from the stage and darkness of the room was all over the place that night). He captured beautiful portraits, but also grabbed very intimate moments between myself and my husband, our friends, and our family - shots that we didn't know anyone was watching. The photos were edited and turned in record time (amazing considering he shoots digitally AND in film) and the gallery of proofs was enormous. This was so important because I've heard HORROR stories from friends whose galleries were pitifully small since the photographer didn't have very good content to return. The gallery is easy to use navigate and he even offers printing services (huge if your local pharmacy does a bad job with prints). Here is my biggest jaw-drop of the experience: Allen worked alone. My wedding had around 225 guests and you would have thought (based on the photos) that he had at least two assistants. Finally, Allen is also just awesome to work with. He's kind and dedicated to his craft, and he is so respectful and polite. He rocked my wedding and I'm so glad we hired him.

He did not disappoint! My best advice would be to trust him and his skills as a photographer implicitly. 1. He gives plenty of direction in terms of body placement, posture, hand placement, etc. to give you flawless photos. If you are new to being photographed like me, you'll find this kind of direction extremely helpful and comforting. 2. At the same time, he creates a very calm, light, and fun atmosphere that creates true, genuine moments between you and your significant other. We are two people that usually feel very uncomfortable in front of a camera, however we had such an enjoyable experience with Allen. 3. I really encourage anyone using Allen's services to listen to his recommendations. For example, our original scheduled date was cloudy and overcast. He recommended that we wait for sun if we truly wanted to be happy with our photos. We are so grateful to have listened to him, because the results were wonderful (see attached). There are other photographers that will say that cloudy weather is actually better, however with Allen's technique and skill set, he can do incredible things with the light. After sending several messages trying to find a compromise, she stopped responding. The next week she contacted me again. I expressed that I wouldn't feel comfortable with her because of her inability to communicate with me in a timely manner and her communication was lacking in professionalism. Her response was that I was not her client and therefore she didn't feel the need to get back to me as quickly. I was very confused by this, as I would never commit to a photo shoot with a photographer who isn't able to respond to me in a timely manner. This was family photo shoot that many of us were traveling to the Dallas area for. Our dates weren't flexible and it was important to me to find someone who could ensure that it would be a smooth process. All in all I felt Lucy was unable to provide time with the level of service I expect. Furthermore, after ending our conversation, she continued to harass me through text message until I asked her to stop. If you are planning to book a photographer please look elsewhere! I am not sure if this if her normal work ethic, if I had done something to offend her, or if she was having a bad week. Regardless of the reason, her attitude was very off putting and her professionalism was lacking.
