    Coast Central Credit Union

After 20 years I'm calling it quits. Not only does this bank have the worst rates for money…read moremarkets, savings and CDs, they have consistently giving me lower credit than my other banks, and a harder time getting that credit. They screwed up incredibly bad by locking me out of my account while I was in Europe, I just couldn't believe it and they couldn't solve it for the 3 weeks that I was there. I also waited for years for the app to finally be decent enough to use. The CEO makes well over a million dollars a year for this small credit union, they are the most picky and least helpful banking establishment I can remember in my lifetime. They seem to have no recognition of long-time members , I always feel like I've just walked enough the street I would like to stay local, but I'll have to find a different local credit union. And just a final picky point: who in the world designed and then okay the design for the parking lot at the new branch in eureka? It is so staggeringly bad, one literally has to stagger over rocks and curbs the entrance of the bank.

I banked at Coast Central back in the early 90s and wasn't too happy with them. I moved to…read moreProvident Credit Union and then they left town. I tried several banks but finally decided to come back to Coast Central. Their computer systems are great and easy to use. The bill pay takes a bit of getting used to and once I asked questions, it has been great. I pay bills with it each month (although I don't use the autopays) and I also transfer money to my landlord's account. It is an easy process. I had a car loan with them and never had a bit of trouble. I use both the ATMs and the drive up tellers. I'm not wild about the wait inside for the services people. There is sometimes a wait. But once someone is taking care of my stuff, they do not try to hurry me up and get me out of there. I'll wait a bit if I know I won't be rushed. I like the credit union. Interest rates are good. The service staff is friendly and call you back when they say they will. And they don't seem to have a great many fees like Wells Fargo does. They don't try to sell you services. I'd recommend the bank to any of my friends.

Called on the telephone to ask if they could cash my financial aid check since Monday is a holiday,…read moreso my bank wont be open till TUES. Lady asked for how much I told her, she said to drive there now and she would. When I got there, there were three people ahead of me. She cashed one financial aide check right before me, Then I got to the window, and she realized after being Very slow and ditzy giving the wrong change to the person before, how full her new aged lobby was. She then asked everyone in the lobby how many had financial aide checks. Three more students raised their hands. Then after telling me on the phone 5 minutes before my half hour lobby wait, and one minute at the window, she told me that she could not cash it, or she could cash it and give me half and I could come back in a couple of days to get the rest. Ok how is that legal?

AA Cash is a very helpful place, and the reviews from some very rude people on here are totally…read moreinaccurate. I am a long time customer, and have never had an issue. The people at AA are the best, lovely people, and never rude. They are usually the last stop for desperate people who were unable to cash their checks anywhere else. So be grateful! I also know a lot about how these institutions work, having also worked at a few similar places. So I will explain. All money transaction services are regulated by the government and have to adhere to very strict laws. If they do not, they are risking fines and even jail time. Any business can legally deny a transaction for any reason, and most have to be verified in order to be cashed. It doesn't matter if you think your check is OK. Verifying a check does not guarantee that it will clear the bank either. They are not ever 'good', until they have cleared the bank. They can ask for as little or as much info as they deem necessary. It is a risk for every business to cash checks that are not at all guaranteed to clear the bank. There is no such thing as a guaranteed check. This includes the government. And it is a risk for the customer also, as any check that does not clear, will have to be paid back by the customer, not the person who wrote the check, plus a fee. There are rules to protect everyone, including rude people. Money orders and personal checks are the most risky, and usually have to wait to clear the bank before being paid out. Many of these checks bounce. Money orders are often used for money laundering. The government requires money service businesses to screen every transaction as potentially fraudulent. The businesses can be fined and go to jail if they cash anything that could potentially be illegal. Businesses ARE required to contact the authorities if they suspect anything. People are dishonest if they pretend not to know there is an extremely high amount of fraud in this area, as well as stolen checks, and more problems. In order to not discriminate, these rules have to apply equally to everyone, regardless of your circumstances, or where the check is from. In addition, businesses do not always have cash on hand for larger checks. Banks also run out of money. If it was very busy, then that probably was the case for 'Desiree'. The abusive comments and assumptions, as well as misogynistic name calling, only demonstrate that you two are the problem, not the business. If a check is legit, then you should be more cooperative. I'm sensing much entitlement here from you two. I'm reporting 'R i's' post. Thank you AA Cash for helping so many people and having to put up with trouble makers.
