I've lived in a few small towns and I've really come to enjoy this little grocery store. Sure it's…read morenot as cheap as Walmart or as fancy as Safeway, but you know what? They are here and Safeway and Walmart sure aren't. Harvest foods in Boardman was open and available when I needed some milk for breakfast, they had heavy cream when I needed it for thanksgiving. And they have a candy aisle when I'm needing some movie treats. They have rotisserie chickens that are hot and yummy and I don't have to drive to Costco in tricities when I feel like one. They have a lot of little things that you might suddenly need and maybe don't feel like driving an hour for. Yes their prices are a little higher but when you consider the cost of driving an hour to get something from hermiston I'd say an extra .20cents on a can of soup is totally worth it. Small stores have to charge more in order to survive. It's a fact of life not a punishment for the local populace. I think there food is wonderful. I'm sure there are problems occasionally but heck, my meat from Walmart was moldy this morning and I just bought it so no place is perfect. I say give it a try, they are nice and it's handy. Thanks for being here little store I really appreciate you . Oh and they have an awesome pharmacy in their store run by the local health clinic Columbia River Health and it's even open on Saturdays. Now that is something you don't ever see in a small town.

So expensive, it's out of touch and it's the only grocery store in town! It's ridiculous.read more

So glad to have a good grocery store in a sweet little town like Heppner…read more I was impressed by some of the food selections here They make their own sausage in house!!they have a pretty extensive meat and seafood selection for such a small town it couldn't be better They have a good beer and cider selection and have a hot/cold deli too STEPHANIE YOU ROCK! Stephanie is the best! She runs around like a personal shopper to help the customers And every time I see her she has a smile and is very helpful

So Heppner Family Foods still will not accommodate me disability. They said they will shop for me…read moreand I am to give them my card AND PIN NUMBER to pay. We have called the owner and he said absolutely to NOT give out you pin number. The employees must either bring out a handheld device for me to pay or let me in to pay with out the mask long enough to pay. Knowing I would not have anyone home this weekend I had 1 of the boys go down and get me the food I need for the weekend. Well I realized today he got the wrong stuff. I had to take it down and exchange it for the right food. A employee came out I gave him the bag of food with the receipt. It turns out the right food cost $2 more. I was told I would not be allowed to go in a pay and they had no handheld device for me to pay on. I was tuned away with out any food at all. So until my children come home after the weekend I will have nothing I can eat. Thank you Heppner Family Foods. Your employees and customers come and go and few are even wearing a mask correctly, their dirty hands are all over everything yet a disabled person can't go in for 30 seconds to pay for their food. I will be calling the owner again on Monday to inform him his employees are still demanding my pin number and will not sell me grocery.

Fossil General Mercantile - Yes this is a cup of good old fresh brewed coffee for .50 nothing fancy I'm still the best you'll have, cost in a long time!

They have clothing and souvenirs and food and general staples and a little bit of this and a little bit of that. They remain the quintessential, modern day, yet old-fashioned hub of activity in small town America. Go up the street to the hill behind the high school football field and dig for fossils and stop by the general Mercantile and show them some love. The people are nice and the service excellent. Incidentally, we were able to get a cup of fresh brew coffee for $.50, yes you heard that a cup of coffee for $.50.

During the short time I was in the store, buying ice cream and wine, I saw many other shoppers; both locals and passer-throughers, like us. One of the locals I saw was the town constable. He was at the register in front of me buying doughnuts. When I pointed out to him he was falling into a stereotype, he smiled a guilty smile and told me, "I know. I had hoped they would have been in the bag before anyone noticed." If I lived in or around Fossil, I wouldn't mind doing all my shopping at Fossil General Mercantile. That's a good thing: because otherwise, I'd have to travel many many miles to find something bigger or better.
