intu Derby has had various names over the years, it became intu Derby after the centre was bought out from Westfield in 2014, but before then it was known as The Eagle Centre. Located in Derby city centre, around half a mile from the train station it has 199 stores over two floors, with the upper level mainly being occupied by restaurants. The largest anchor stores over 3 levels are Marks and Spencer and Debenhams. The mall is modern in most areas, however, other parts could certainly be done with some improvement which seemed so poor, it looks like two different shopping centres in comparison. The mobile signal around the mall was terrible, It even got so bad I had to go into the Three store, who is my mobile operator who explained it is bad and they normally have a signal booster which wasn't working. Luckily the centre did have wi-fi but even that was pretty poor. The centre is the largest shopping centre in the East Midlands region in terms of area and is the 14th largest in the country (Just 227 meters squared larger than intu Milton Keynes & thecentre:mk) The security staff gave me a bad vibe, they seemed like they were wanting to cause trouble and didn't seem as friendly as elsewhere in the UK, which could be said about the mall staff as a whole, but it is still one of the better shopping centres in the area with some nice brands including the city's only Starbucks store, you can also find stores from Nando's, Carluccio's, Jack Jones, Hugo Boss, WHSmith and more, so it is one of the best places to shop in the city even if it does lack multiple brands which can be found at smaller malls in Nottingham and Leicester such as Currys PC World and Apple. 3* read more

Now, I'm not normally a fan of shopping centres, but I have to confess I was seriously impressed by the new (opened in October 2007) Westfield Centre. It's seriously large inside, with 175 stores anchored by a large M&S and Debenhams. But what I liked was the bright, light and seriously minimalist finish to everything, and apparently all to a very high standard. It was about as far from a crappy British shopping centre as I have ever seen. On the inside, it also steers clear of that horrible cheap and tacky atrium style of architecture. It looks as though someone has at least tried to put some thought into it all. The stores were - unsurprisingly - mostly the familiar set of High Street names, although there were also some clearly local outlets, too, although a few of these looked perilously close to discount stores. But, overall, I was impressed - and surprised, because Derby isn't that large a city. Only 4 stars? Well, for such a huge place, their signposting and mapping wasn't that great, even with the hi-tech touch-sensitive store and location finder. (Nice technology, shame about the map). They have the usual range of services (toilets, parking for 2,000 cars, etc) as well as a cinema. It's slap bang in the middle of the city, so it's hard to miss. read more

Overall: HUGE shopping centre with everything you'd ever need What on earth happened to the good ole Eagle Centre? I've only been away from Derby for what, 6 years and this place sprouts up. Wandering around here makes me feel like an old helpless woman, lost and confused, lol. This place has made Derby no longer feel like Derby. It makes me sad to miss the good ole times we had hanging out at the Eagle Centre. Oh well... There's ample parking space, but it is highly expensive. This place is busy, clean, neat and tidy - just like a shopping centre you'd love to go to, but not in your own home town (if you get my meaning). The shopping centre cost 340 million pounds to build and has more than 100 new shops, four new themed malls, over two retail levels with their flagship stores being Marks and Spencer and Debenhams, a food court and 12-screen cinema. It's got all the stores that everyone needs in the local vicinity of the East Midlands, and although it's bringing people into the city, it makes driving around Derby a nightmare! read more

INTRODUCTION Westfields Derby opened in October 2007. For me, this was exciting as Derby shopping hadn't been great before, with only a small amount of shops. The addition of the cinema has been great, providing one in the centre of the city. LOCATION Located in the centre of Derby, it was built around and over the old shopping centre. FOOD With a food arcade upstairs, Westfields offers the usual fastfood options (e.g. KFC and Burger King), but also a delightful change of chinese and mexican alternatives. With a mass of seating, even on a busy Saturday I have been able to find a seat. There is also a Pizza Express which I have yet to try. SERVICE Customer service differs depending on what shop you are in. Food wise, the assistants tend to get orders wrong & queues are long but they are never rude and always polite. ATMOSPHERE The shopping centre gets very hot and stuffy, so I often find myself wanting to get out asap! When it is busy, it is often hectic. Overall, the atmosphere isn't great. VARIETY It is easy to say that Westfields has the 'same old' shops on offer, but for Derby it has been a change. Shops are all close together & the variety meets my shopping needs, so no complaints here. read more

I'm not the biggest fan of shopping so appraoched Westfields with some trepidation but was pleasantly surprised! First off, if driving in and entering the multi storey car park from London Road prepare yourself for the corckscrew ramp! It just seems to go on and on, if you're not a confident driver or you have a larger vehicle it can be quite daunting. One into the car park I got my first pleasant surprise that the car park spaces were a generous size. The exits were well signposted. Into the shopping centre itself and I was taken aback with how clean and bright it appeared. The layout basically covers two wings over 2 floors. It doesn't feel claustophobic or cramped. The wide walkways are interspersed with 'island' stalls offering everything from jewellery to manicures to coffee stops. It gives the area a relaxed feel. That relaxed feel is echoed by sette style seating areas dotted around. After a year of being open what I noticed was everything still looked in good nick and people were respecting the items which was good to see. It made the place feel like the community was proud of it. In terms of shops there is a little of everything from the high street names to branded clothes shops, boutiques and specialist stores. There were certainly some high end market shops which made the centre feel a little more plush but that's not to say there aren't plenty of bargain stores to be found. Information signs and maps are well located and very helpful as though a small shopping centre it is still easy to become disorientated! The only thing I had difficulty finding was an ATM. The dedicated shopocholic may still prefer to travel further afield for a bigger buzz but if you are more of a reluctant shopper like me you may be surprised by how comfortable Westfield is. A day's shopping there isn't daunting and with the numerous cafes (be aware some only take cash) and the food hall to intersperse the shopping with drinks breaks it could even befun! read more

Westfield is such a vast improvement to what the Eagle Centre was previously like. Now over three floors with top name brand stores you wouldn't imagine would ever come to Derby. With the current climate however, I don't think they are as successful as they would like as in the new year they are changing the late closing time on a Thursday and Friday night from 9pm to 8pm. A few stores haven't lasted very long either, and there are still a number of empty stores. However, new ones are still opening which still makes it worthwhile to shop in Derby, rather than trekking over to Nottingham. The foodhall upstairs has a good selection of different types of food which is all in a very modern and funky setting. The third floor consists of a cinema and Nandos and Pizza Express restaurants. read more

I visit Derby regularly but do not like huge shopping "malls". I pass through occasionally but have shopped there very rarely (M&S and an over price coffee once). I prefer local specialist shops, like those found in the Cathedral Quarter and the Market Place area. Variety and quality are the spice of life. Have you seen the skyline created by Westfield - just an enormous cube - architect gets no marks. read more

I had to park in Derby for work and after a very stressful day was unable to find my car.A very helpful car park member of staff called Julie identified that I had returned to the wrong car park ( I should have been at Riverside) she walked me all the way to find my car and wanted to make sure I was safely reunited with my car before leaving. An alright shopping centre in the centre of Derby.location is great, they could have built this by the M1 or A50. The standard of shops is just about ok, there are too many pound shops and other tat, gives it that Nottingham Broadmarsh feel and attracts a certain type of shopper. £1.50 car parking after 6pm is a nice touch. read more

As Derby is the nearest city for me to visit to shop I was more than happy when I originally heard the old Eagle Centre was to be revamped. Although it took quite a while, as you would expect, I wasn't disappointed with the results. Westfield has been like a breath of fresh air for shoppers in Derby, a total contrast on what it used to be. Yes some of the old shops and areas of the complex still exist like the Market and where the Book Cafe is placed for example but the main part is now fresh, spacious and vibrant. There are obviously some major stores such as M & S, Debenhams, Next, WH Smith and Boots inside but the beauty is its mixed with unusual and fashionable shops to like Lush, The Sony Centre and Cex and many more. Amenities wise it is also a big step up, not only has the car parking in the centre increased significantly but there are toilets, a cash machine, a number of very nice coffee shops and at last a reasonably good and varied foodhall then top that off with the Cinema. The downsides for me are only minimal things really, perhaps a couple more toilets and cash machines would be good, the foodhall is also not cheap depending where you go and finally despite how nice the coffee shops are I would have preferred a few more shops taking some of there places. That said, don't be put off and if you haven't been before I would recommend it. read more

As for most men going to the shopping mall can be a chore, however I have found westfield in derby to be one of the best shopping experiences in the UK. The shopping malls are short, and they are packed with lots of shops, serving a large range, from kids shops to the large department stores. (M&S). There has been alot of thought put into the design, and there is always plenty of parking available, even if the barrier does fail, which has occurred on a few occasions. Apart from that Id visit again, and it has been a large boost for Derby City, within walking distance of the city centre, and the other shops which are on offer, HMV, next etc. read more

Westfield Derby is located in the city centre. It is not a huge shopping centre but big enough and packed with a lot of shops and services. First of all there are a lot of different shops for kids and adults. There are Sainsbury's, M&S and Debenhams. Moreover, the eating area offers a lot of different shops serving all varieties of food, from the chinnese to vegeterian. Now, the centre is open till 22 (Thursdays) and 21 (Fridays) so you can do you Christmas shopping not only during the weekend. You can spend the whole day in the Westfield centre and you won't be bored and after shopping you can relax in the cinema located on the top floor of the centre! read more

A fantastic shopping centre that has all my favourite shops. It has a well rounded mix of department stores, clothes shops, entertainment stores and eateries, and also includes a cinema. It has adequate parking and incorporates the Eagle Centre market. I find it unique in the fact its a shopping mall situated within the city, with access to the shops in the city centre and the bus station. It is awkward to get to by car, but this adds to the quirkiness of the place. If it had been built on the outskirts or on an indutrial estate, it would be half as good, as it would have needed to be bigger to give the same level of shopping. read more

The Cinema de Lux in the centre was the first in the country. It has three car parks and is a few minutes' walk away from both Derby's bus and railway stations, though the bus station is currently closed for redevelopment and not due to reopen until 2009. read more

Westfield is a vast improvement on derbys shopping scene. It has shops to cater all needs, clothing, food, shoes, electrics, art, jewelery, and home. There is a easy accessible car park, with lots of space. The shops vary from high street to designer, such as topshop shop and river island to Schuh, All saints, and Levi Strauss. The food court is superb, there is a huge range from you typical food court booth, KFC, to an Asian or Mexican booth. All the food is freshly made and prepared, and everytime i have been the food quality has been to the highest standard. The arcitecture and design is a breath of fresh air. Also there is a 12 screen cinema, which is superbly designed and is always very clean and tidy. During the holiday period market stalls are set up where you can buy unique gifts for family and friends. This is a high light in Derby. read more

I think the centre is briliant for shopping. I never used to go into derby to go shopping befor this was built but i go all the time now. Its made the city so much better for shopping and eating as there is a great part with loudes of different restraunts from jacket patato stalls to chinesse. The centre is realy modern and there is a wide range of shops from cloths shops to hairdressers. The westfield staff are always willing to help you if you hav any problems and are friendley. Both the centre and the toilets are clean which always makes the centre that much better. The shops in the centre so seem a abit pricey and there is none of the cheep shops like primark. However these kinds of shops are on the high street of derby close to the centre!! I would recomend this centre to any one that loves shopping. read more

Simple mall with a ton of shops and restaurants/cafes that mostly constitute quick or simple. Easy access to better food establishments and interesting specialist shops (music, machining, tailoring, banks) around various exit ways. Has changed hands many time and frightfully easy to break into the behind the scenes of the shopping centre (literally parked on the 7th floor and thought we were taking the stairs down, suddenly we were in concrete rooms and looking at people behind security doors) so maybe needing to upgrade their security... Or at least lock access on the 7th floor. read more

I'm not keen on this place both as I consider it an unsustainable development which has damaged the existing city centre and as a shopper I find its layout baffling and its parking horrific during peak times. I like Derby with its existing shops and I don't think as a city it is large enough to support some of the retailers which Westfield have brought in. Hopefully the markets and the shops I like can weather the storm until the ranks of frankly bland clothing 'boutiques' have lost enough money to close up. Sustainable development should always be driven by demand and Westfield has been built 'because'. Some people will have made alot of money on this whole mess. With current multiple store closures and the influx of pound shops we'll see how it holds up. Once you pass a certain point you'll realise there is now a 2:1 ratio of muffin shacks and coffee spots and biscuit huts to real retail shops. Then they'll go and the rates will drop, the services and security will be lowered and the place will be a concrete rubbish bin. read more

A good shopping centre where I enjoy going but there does seem to be a few too many clothing stores. It is very easy to get around as it is two floors and goes round in a circle. It has the 'food place' where there is a very wide variety of places to eat and has a new cinema de lux on the 3rd/4th floor. read more

The shopping experience in Derby Westfield is pleasant and an overall good experience UNTIL you want to exit the car park! Of the three times I have been shopping during school holidays or like today Bank holiday Good Friday we have been TRAPPED FOR HOURS in queues of traffic all trying to exit and of course wanting to come in too....truly the worst designed car park in the world!! I am NEVER coming into the Westfield again with my car.......and the way I feel now....never again......this really needs sorting...there were people with babies and young children and older people who probably missed medication....that is how long we were there. I ended up collecting my car later that evening after having an unplanned lunch and having to get a taxi home to meet family commitments!!!! Westfield is a brilliant place to shop with an awsome array of stores, from the cheap and cheerful to the expensive and luxurious. However most shops seem to be in the expensive category unless you go down into what used to be the eagle centre (where boots, claires and BHS is) in which case there are shops more in the 'normal persons' price range read more

westfield is an incredible place perfect for everyone it has lots of shops within it and all the things are nice and cheap not only that but i have a personal loveing of the smoothie stand there just thinking of it makes me thirsty. not only that but it has a huge food court on the second floor with a KFC a hey potato and a thi (sorry can spell tht) resteraunt i reccoment goin here for shopping and a bite to eat! read more

this is a huge place to shop in not as big as merry hill dudley but its got everything you need and beacuse its new everything is really shinny and posh, and if you ca't find what you need in there, theres still the streets of derby which there are loads of shops also. i love this place read more

Can't believe its over a year since it opened. Nice layout. Prefer the childrens shops being on one floor and all the older shops on another. Works well so you don't need to do all floors to go to all the shops you want. The Food hall is also really nice. Had a lovely pie there. Still to try the cinema. read more

The new or shall I say not so new Westfield shopping center, the place is nice, reminds you of the Bullring in Birmingham with the decor, usual shops you would want to find in a shopping center and luckily the shops have a wide range of items as opposed to a limited range. Would prefer a few more shops inside such as game shops or a few more designer shops. Also the cinema is really impressive. read more
