To the Karen at Harbor Island West Marina:…read more My husband walked me to the showers at Harbor Island West Marina. After I finished showering, I was drying off my shower shoes at the first sink in the women's restroom. A Caucasian woman suddenly walked in, chose the sink right next to me--despite several others being available--and aggressively threw her keys or badge near my area. I found it odd, but tried to brush it off. I walked outside and told my husband, who had been patiently waiting for me. She followed shortly after and walked toward the dock area. Before we left, my husband went to the restroom, and I waited. As we approached the parking lot, I noticed her walking toward me again. Before she even spoke, I had a feeling I knew exactly what was coming--like something straight out of the "Karen" TikToks and Instagram videos I've seen. She rudely and aggressively asked, "Do you have a slip here?" I was caught off guard--shocked this was actually happening. She asked again, as if I didn't hear her the first time. I turned to my husband, unsure of our slip number, and before we could even explain, she escalated her tone and said, "Well, I thought it was weird that you were taking a shower and he was waiting for you. Then he goes into the bathroom, and now you're leaving. I've never seen you here before." My husband (a retired police officer), was waiting for me because there was only one badge for entry between us, so it was not weird at all. We told her that yes--we do have a slip. My husband has actually been staying here for nearly three weeks. She continued to insist that our presence was "weird," and said, "I watch out for this place." As a Filipino and person of color, I have never experienced racism so directly. The way she treated us--her assumptions, accusations, and tone--made me feel deeply disgusted and unwelcome. If this is how she treats strangers who don't look like her, I can only imagine how she treats others.

Very strange of the City of San Diego Permitting Process not to require this simple but necessary requirement for tenants not getting a break from the slip fees, the extended stay fees (this Marina's current word salad for Live Aboard Fees), other fees fees fees, etc during the renovation.

We attended a Pacific Islander Luau tonight at the Baja Room location of Marina Village. The setup…read morewas good. We appreciated that the space has ample room for eating, entertainment, and dining. They have a covered patio here, and this is where the food for the event was served. The shade in this patio was perfect on this warm San Diego day. The back windows of the dining room look out to the marina and it's a nice view. There is a walkway along the marina as well back there for photos during the event. This venue also has a bar/beverage high counter setup for events. I also liked that there is a small stage for performers. Overall, Marina Village is a nice place to share great memories and enjoy e

I came here for a wedding and it is absolutely gorgeous!!! There are so many rooms to host parties…read moreand events. It is also a DIY facility so you can really choose the price point to fit your event needs. I would recommend this space to anyone that loves a good harbor view. It is a huge space and there are multiple events happening at the same time with a lot of different room sizes and types for all events. It is kinda confusing finding the room initially but you get a hang of it. Has ramps and bathrooms for disabled and ample free parking. Party it up here!!!!! Only down side is some of the rooms and chairs/tables are beat up or need updated maintenance. The bay view room had a leak in the roof and there was no way in fixing it in time for the event. Or some of the chairs are ripped or wobbly. Something to think about!

By far the WORST marina in San Diego. They make your experience a nightmare and every boat in owner…read morewalks on glass (instead of water) fearful daily that their rights of enjoyment will be suddenly stripped away on the whim of the Dock Master, Mike. I was docked there for 1 1/2 years, and in that time saw a minimum of 5 contracted liveaboards (all there prior to Mike's employment) kicked out without warning. One was docked across from me, had been "friends" with Mike in the past, and woke up one morning with a 30 day notice to move 2 boats! Another was an older lady, late 70s, that had been there 12 years or more before Mike - And she was removed because he "did not want someone dying in his docks." - quoted verbatim. She had nowhere to go and thankfully the dock master extender her stay an extra month - such a kind heart. My theory is he was kicking people out in order to free up transient spots for boujie boats to pocket money for himself. Communication is terrible, they closed the dock deli - and never reopened another for the last year I was there. They over charge for "ammenities" of one small pool that is constantly infested with ducks and gym locker showers. I came to the dock one time and discovered He had plugged another boat into my electrical booth - and refused to reimburse. Prices also went up without warning. My e-bike (locked) was almost stolen off of my car in the parking lot but "nothing was seen" on camera. Other marinas are 1/3 the cost, have Dock Masters that care about their clientele and tenants, and don't go on power trip rampages disregarding the quality of lives of paying customers following ALL guidelines. *Go to Driscoll Marina in MBAY - they have secured parking, a great bar with live music, and Jesse is a GREAT dock master that looks out for people.
