I Googled hiking tour and it took me to Escape travel tours website. I saw that there were 8-12 mile hikes and immediately thought that was a bit too much for me and my guests, so I emailed them to see if they could do any shorter hiking trips, and less difficult. I immediately got a response back from John the owner with a perfect idea for a day long hiking trip. Here was his email: K We just did a wonderful Best of Marin county hiking and sightseeing tour last Tue with a couple in their 50's and it was fantastic. Here is the itinerary. We can meet you at HWY 1 in Mill Valley at 101 and drive in our vehicle. Picnic lunch, map, digital pics and full narration included. Sightseeing tour with a Muir Woods/Mt Tam hiking tour 4-5 miles mixed in. We'll do a 15-20 min docent talk of Muir Woods, and walk around the top of mt tam with a picnic lunch and a 360 degree view of the entire bay area and a visit to stinson beach and a quick walk to the Muir Beach overlook. I will email you the photos I took soon from my iphone. Cheers and hike on... US NEWS article about us: http://www.usnews.com/usnews/health/articles/070527/4vacation.biking-sonoma.htm From there we agreed to the trip, held with a credit card and met him on time where we agreed. We were a little nervous at first since there were no previous ratings on yelp, but he has a vehicle with the travel tour company plastered all over it to make you feel comfortable, and when we met John he was very personable and didn't seem creepy or anything at all. He had some fruit and some water in the back of the car for us as well. As soon as we got in the car he started by telling us about his company and what the day would be like. He was an excellent driver on the windy mountain roads, which we really appreciated! I tend to get sick on those roads, but he was the best driver I have seen under those conditions. He also had a Honda pilot which I think handles curves well. He also mentioned he has a large passenger van for bigger tours as well. I won't go into the full detail of the whole trip, because I would be writing a while, but you can imagine the awesome sights, with a great tour guide, and a perfectly packed lunch and snacks for an affordable price. It was so nice to not have to drive and figure out where we were going. He also had a pass to Muir woods so our $5 admission was covered. John also took pics of us - prompted by us but also some by him, which we appreciated. He also taught us more about trees than we ever thought we would know. I hope this posting gets him some more business!! He mentioned he also does vacation tours, corporate tours, private biking tours, boat tours...basically everything, and he has been in business 10 years. His website should tell you what he does for other tours. We will definitely book Escape travel tours again!!!

If you commute from Davis to the Bay Area, I definitely recommend using Amtrak's Capital Corridor…read moreover driving. It is far less stressful, and, with a monthly pass, much cheaper. The trains are clean, and the conductors friendly, and it usually goes off without a hitch. Occasionally, there are delays (such as when the Benicia Bridge is up to allow maritime traffic to pass, or infrequent mishaps). When they do occur, communication could be better, but that would be my only complaint. You can bring your bike or scooter aboard (most cars have three spaces, plus there is one that holds 13. In the early morning, the bike/luggage car is also the quiet car, and usually kept dark as well. In the afternoon, if you do not need to go past Sacramento, avoid #538, as it gets very full (often no bike racks or seats are open). The #536 and #540 have plenty of room and run within half an hour. As for the actual station, it's too bad that there is a fair amount of trash and vandalism, because it's a cute historic building. Staff are wonderful. One of them was very helpful when there was a cancelled train, I was able to get onto a Starliner with existing ticket.

Not a fan of the tracks that Light Rail uses as they are on the same level as the walkway. There is a higher chance of an accident here for people not paying attention where they are standing while an incoming train comes through. The location of this station is convenient as R Street which is a block away is a great destination for Sacramento dining as many of the top restaurants are situated there. This station doesn't have much coverage. There is a little cover on the westbound side of the station, but the train ramp for handicapped passengers is the only covered area on the eastern side. The area around the station can be a bit sketchy, particularly at night. But that seemed to be the case for most of the stops in the downtown Sacramento area.
