Everyone I know that goes to Katalyst - myself included - will say it's hands-down the best of the best! Whether you're just going for IV therapy infusions or a debilitating chronic pain condition, Dr. Boutwell, Julie, and the staff are incredible. The amount of time that the providers spend on empowering their patients through education - coupled with their genuinely compassionate bedside manner - is exceptional.

Despite explaining that I…read moreneeded to stay within what my insurance would reimburse (insurance they accepted), they did not actually honor my request. I originally went here to treat my pain and to understand which approved pain procedures I might be a candidate for (e.g. spinal cord stimulator). As a chronic pain patient in a great deal of pain, I've never been treated as poorly as I was here. They really had their own agenda. For example, a week or so after my first appointment, I received a call from a businessman on behalf of Katalyst pain clinic, asking whether I was interested in a novel treatment for my pain. When I asked about the cost, he told me it was $10,000-$12,500 - with no insurance reimbursement. This is fine to know for the future, but I needed to get out of pain now, using my insurance. It felt humiliating to repeatedly request both in writing and verbally that I needed to stick to what my insurance would cover, at least until I had a new job. I'm responsible to pay the bill, after all. I was disappointed in the care provided, the unprofessional demeanor, and frankly the attitude demonstrated by Dr. Buettwell (embrace patient, argue with patient, discard patient). I never did learn about my other approved treatment options - only the off-label peptides and platelets they push. Apparently, some things are more difficult than medical school.

ABJ's website identifies the practice as an "Ortho Urgent Care" and states that walk-ins are welcome Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. When we checked in, the front desk staff informed me that my specific Cigna plan was not covered. I was then asked to complete a "Select Plan Gap Exception Request" form, which was specific to my employer. Conveniently, ABJ had a copy of the form available to provide to me. Because I understood that my Cigna plan includes coverage for urgent care and emergency department services anywhere in the continental United States, I contacted Cigna directly to clarify the situation. The Cigna representative confirmed that my understanding of the coverage was correct. The representative also confirmed that ABJ had recently processed several claims under my insurance coverage. I was further informed by Cigna that the "Select Plan Gap Exception Request" form is intended for out-of-network providers. According to Cigna, ABJ does not fall into that category for my plan. The Cigna representative then asked the ABJ staff member who answered the phone to schedule an appointment for my daughter and to document in the appointment notes that Cigna had confirmed coverage for my plan. The Cigna representative also asked ABJ to discontinue using this form at its locations because, according to Cigna, it is intended only for out-of-network providers. As an additional step, the Cigna representative asked ABJ to verify which of its physicians were included in Cigna's network contract. During that process, Cigna identified inconsistencies in the provider network information and instructed the practice to submit a provider network information change within 30 days. This entire experience was extremely frustrating and concerning. Based on what Cigna communicated to me, it appears there may be a significant disconnect between how ABJ is handling Cigna patients and the terms of Cigna's network and coverage agreements. As a patient and parent seeking care for an injured child, I should not have to navigate conflicting information between the provider and my insurance company just to receive urgent care. The process we encountered gave me the impression that patients presenting for urgent care may be redirected toward scheduled appointments, potentially resulting in higher charges to the insurance company. If that is, in fact, what is happening, it is deeply disappointing. Patients should come first--not maximizing revenue. Shame on ABJ for creating unnecessary barriers to care and putting financial considerations ahead of the needs of patients and families.

Dr Sturm has put together a wonderful team of employees who are absolutely great at their Jobs. The atmosphere is relaxing and when I'm in pain that's so important to me. Dr Sturm gave me an injection in my shoulder last week and for the first time in a very long time I was able to sleep through the night. I went on u tube to try physical therapy first but it didn't work. I'm going for a MRI this afternoon. I've had surgery on this shoulder about 10 years ago and was told not to injured it again but life happens. Knowing Dr Sturm and his team are going to be there for me means so much. I'm not as scared anymore. Thank you everyone.
