    Nothing but burgers.

On this day, International Cafe was a lonely spot on the loneliest road, and only a single employee was working inside, but she was friendly enough, and we couldn't take any more trail mix. It was Cheeseburger Cheeseburger like on SNL, but with none of the diner rush, and Coke instead of Pepsi. If you take a chance here, do bring cash like the handwritten sign on the door directs. Do be prepared to wait if there's a lone employee manning the store (and it looks here on Yelp like it often is). The burger with condiments and lettuce my have come from a Costco sleeve, but the dinner fries it came with were decent. Burger-wise, you could do worse, but with an almost entirely 86'd menu we wish we made that stop back in Eureka.

It's the only place in town on a Sunday. It may look rundown and it's the oldest hotel in Nevada. The owner, originally from Serbia, is working hard to restore the rooms. It's all on him to cook, bartend, and restore the building. He will cook you a burger that is just right and serve it with fresh, handcut fries. Take a little tour of the bar, a true 19th century western antique brought over from Virginia City. Have a drink if you are staying in town. Even if you aren't going to eat, stop in for a cool drink, buy some hot sauce, check out this fascinating landmark. Bring cash. He doesn't take cards.

My 2nd time visiting. There were actually cars parked outside the restaurant this time around.

Oh wow....I mean. I feel bad for this place. I actually stopped by here twice on my journey across Route 50 - Loneliest Road in America. Even though I'm giving it 1 star....I genuinely have sympathy for it....in that it could be special if cared for properly. Let me explain... I actually had read that this International Cafe was the place to stop at when driving through the tiny town of Austin, Nevada. Let me clarify to be exact.....Austin is such a small town, literally maybe half a mile long.....I'm not sure if there were any other restaurants in town! Still....my first impression of this place was quite positive. From the outside, well.....the whole town of Austin reminded me of an old fashioned, western and mining - vintage throwback. And The International exuded that essence also. The exterior felt like a Cowboy pub....with lots of antiques and a whole wooden paneling saloon type of vibe. A rustic place to grab a "cold one" and a hearty and homemade meal. When I first visited, I went inside to have my Loneliest Road in America pamphlet stamped signifying that I had arrived and made it through one of the historic stops here in Austin, NV. When I asked for my booklet to be stamped, the woman (I guess the owner) (btw, she had no teeth) seemed disappointed that I wasn't sitting down to eat....yet according to my tourism itinerary, the International was 1 of only 2 recommended stops to get the infamous stamp to complete the Loneliest Road journey. Side fact...when you mail in your pamphlet, the Governor of Nevada sends you an honorary free certificate mentioning that you survived the 400 mile trek across the state. I received mine and it's cool. It's mantled in a plaque on my wall at home. Regardless....when I stopped in around 4pm, there was no one sitting down to eat. It was a ghost place.....and in general the restaurant felt quite creepy. Upon returning on the Loneliest Road and back here in Austin....it was raining outside and I was hungry and thought....you know what....I'll surprise the lady and she'd be appreciative for seeing me again. Btw....this 2nd time around there were cars parked outside the restaurant which made me feel relieved. Inside....the place was crowded. Tables were filled up. I walked through the doors and the other customers told me to just choose a table. Alright....I sat down, quickly glanced at the menu....which was quite basic offering the staples....virtually only hot and cold sandwiches, a soup of the day, a side salad or buffalo wings. That's it. Nothing else except for drinks, beers and cocktails. Here's where I "threw in the proverbial towel", lol.....though I guess it's not so funny. I sat down, and maybe 4 other tables of families were sitting as well. And there was no service! No waitress! No nothing! A few customers mentioned a lady took their order and I guess she was in the back cooking their meal! Otherwise that was it. What a joke. Maybe this place could have used more help.....a cook, a server....and not just the toothless owner handling everything. I mean...I waited like 15 minutes....talked with the other folks next to me conversing about our similar journeys. Ultimately though, no one stepped out from behind the kitchen. It was so weird. I had never experienced anything like it. I assume maybe the owner was not prepared to be bombarded with a few customers on a cool and wet summer evening. Maybe she was in the back killing everyone's meal.....so it could be served fresh?....Alright that's not funny..... So after the 15 minutes, I said no more.....I decided to leave and continue driving finding much better offerings and food further along in Ely at the Silver State Restaurant. Overall....this International Cafe was a complete hole in the wall. If you're desperate and hungry, I guess come here. I'm thankful that I waited to discover a much more reliable and sanitary restaurant along Route 50.

If you see this place... just keep diving. Better food and a friendlier welcome inEureka or Fallon.

This location is closed as of 9/13/25. It was bought by a couple who closed it. Nothing to eat in town except hot dogs at the Owl Club.

Four of my friends and I went to dinner here last Friday night and while we were waiting to be served they were complaining about the last time they had been in and how long it took to get there food. This time was no exception. The place was somewhat busy and I believe there was only one waitress. The atmosphere was noisy, the waitress was friendly and on top of it as she could be. The food was average and took a while to get. This being said it is Eureka NV with not many choices for places to work or eat so if you decide to stop in you will have to just grin and bare it.

There wasn't much of a choice. Service was ok, I think the poor boy was overworked managing the whole dining room himself and rude demanding customers screaming at him. Interior was nothing special, felt a little dirty. Had to ask for condiments. My hubbys cheeseburger was good but my chicken Philly cheesesteak had gigantic chicken slices so I can't pick it up and bite into it without the chicken falling out. I'm used to small, shredded pieces of chicken in a cheesesteak! Lemonade tastes like cough syrup. Afterwards, I had the worst stomachache the whole way home back to California. I know it's the desert but I would skip. PS: what is up with all the broken and chipped plates??? This shows this place truly does not care about the perception and the dining experience. Check out my broken chipped plate. My hubbys plate was worst with multiple chipped spots, can't see too well but check out his cheeseburger picture, you can see a chip on his plate.

We came in around 9 PM after a whole day hike in the North twin River for pre-hunting survey. The bar owner informed us that they were closing at 10 PM, so that was a bummer! We decided to leave to go to camp and agreed to come back the day after. We came in at 2 PM the next day and met Robyn (bartender/owner). Such an amazing person. We played pool and ordered a bunch of drinks. I ordered Long Island ice tea which Robyn made so effortlessly flawless! At par to what I get in Vegas or maybe even better. This was very impressive! Tom got tap beer which I believe was from Great Basin Brewery - I notice he loves this brewery a lot and usually picks this whenever this comes up as a choice. The inside decor is great. Taxidermy of deers, elks, mountain goat and many more (I wish I took pictures - I definitely will when we go back on October). The bathrooms were very clean and well kept and decorated to the theme. They don't have an attached kitchen to order food but it wasn't a deal breaker, we came for the drinks and the conversation and we got what we came for! I definitely would recommend if you find yourself in the area and we'll definitely be back in hunting season!
