Slow paced, quaint little bar with a smooth pool table. Rustic and old fashioned ambiance with that down home feel.

The barman/proprietor Viktor was pouring booze from what appeared to be a generic bottle into a name brand one, and after a couple repeated shouted questions - the guy seemed deaf as one of the old posts in the creaky building - I wandered out of the bar and into the cafe/kitchen area. ... and promptly wandered right the hell out. There's no way I'd eat anything out of that kitchen. Absolutely not. Just gross and sad. Meanwhile, Viktor had spontaneously launched into a xenophobic maga rant to my wife; I'm guessing the poor thing absorbs AM talk radio all day long and is just full to bursting with it. Naturally, she didn't want to engage, and when she excused herself, he grabbed her hand and kissed it. Threatening? No. Creepy and gross? Absolutely. Awesome potential, in the building anyway, and no doubt some shards of really cool history buried under the dust and dank clutter, but honestly the whole vibe there is the crumbling abode of a bitter old racist trying to hang on as he falls into decay. Like building, like owner. Just... sad.

The category Dive Bar that the Owl Club comes up under in Yelp is fitting. As far as dive bars go…read morethis ranks up there but I'm reviewing the steakhouse portion. Four of my friends and I went to dinner here last Friday night and while we were waiting to be served they were complaining about the last time they had been in and how long it took to get there food. This time was no exception. The place was somewhat busy and I believe there was only one waitress. The atmosphere was noisy, the waitress was friendly and on top of it as she could be. The food was average and took a while to get. This being said it is Eureka NV with not many choices for places to work or eat so if you decide to stop in you will have to just grin and bare it.

Two stars for being the few food spots open around noon on a Sunday afternoon and for decent food…read morein the middle of the desert. We wanted the Mexican spot next door but they were closed. There wasn't much of a choice. Service was ok, I think the poor boy was overworked managing the whole dining room himself and rude demanding customers screaming at him. Interior was nothing special, felt a little dirty. Had to ask for condiments. My hubbys cheeseburger was good but my chicken Philly cheesesteak had gigantic chicken slices so I can't pick it up and bite into it without the chicken falling out. I'm used to small, shredded pieces of chicken in a cheesesteak! Lemonade tastes like cough syrup. Afterwards, I had the worst stomachache the whole way home back to California. I know it's the desert but I would skip. PS: what is up with all the broken and chipped plates??? This shows this place truly does not care about the perception and the dining experience. Check out my broken chipped plate. My hubbys plate was worst with multiple chipped spots, can't see too well but check out his cheeseburger picture, you can see a chip on his plate.

It's a gem in the middle of nowhere! It's our tradition to…read morecheck out local bars whenever we go to small towns to immerse yourself with the locals. This place did not disappoint! We came in around 9 PM after a whole day hike in the North twin River for pre-hunting survey. The bar owner informed us that they were closing at 10 PM, so that was a bummer! We decided to leave to go to camp and agreed to come back the day after. We came in at 2 PM the next day and met Robyn (bartender/owner). Such an amazing person. We played pool and ordered a bunch of drinks. I ordered Long Island ice tea which Robyn made so effortlessly flawless! At par to what I get in Vegas or maybe even better. This was very impressive! Tom got tap beer which I believe was from Great Basin Brewery - I notice he loves this brewery a lot and usually picks this whenever this comes up as a choice. The inside decor is great. Taxidermy of deers, elks, mountain goat and many more (I wish I took pictures - I definitely will when we go back on October). The bathrooms were very clean and well kept and decorated to the theme. They don't have an attached kitchen to order food but it wasn't a deal breaker, we came for the drinks and the conversation and we got what we came for! I definitely would recommend if you find yourself in the area and we'll definitely be back in hunting season!

What can I say... A friend and I stumbled on this place probably 10 or more years ago. What made it…read morespecial to ME was that they had "Gentleman Jack" at the bar. I've been to really upscale bars that didn't offer this fine spirit. So now, fastforward to 2010, and my wife and I are out RV'ing. You know, pick-up and travel trailer. We arrived in Belmont on a Thursday with the hopes of stopping at "Indian Maggie's" (formerly the Monitor Inn, it seems) for a Gentleman Jack Manhattan. Silly us, because nothing is open until Friday, and even THEN, most places are closed (due, I think, to our being here in mid-September, long after normal 'tourist' season). One local we ran into assured us the bar would be open on Friday, sometime after noon. So, being in NO rush, we found the unpublished "Belmont Campground" nearby and set up for the night. After all, the whole reason for this return visit was to have our cherished Gentleman Jack Manhattan - IN BELMONT! We hiked back into town from the campground on Friday, early afternoon, and sure enough, the bar was open. I love the sign outside that announces "Cold Beer, Wild Stories, Fine Spirits, and Good Cigars". We sidled up to the bar, and the owner, a crusty old gent who's name I embarrassingly forget, took our order. "Two Gentleman Jack Manhattans". Yup, he still had GJ, but had to get a flashlight out to find it under the bar. He hauled out an unopened bottle, dust covered, and wiped it off, Good as new! I asked how he made his Manhattans (because we've found a lot of bartenders who really DON'T know how to make a proper Manhattan!) and he just said, "Well, according to the gentleman we keep this stuff for, I just pour a bunch of this in the glass, then add sweet vermouth until it's the right color". I though "Uh oh...". BUT, he made magnificent Manhattans! And uh, healthy ones at that. So while we're sitting there sipping our drinks and talking with the gentleman, in walks another local and the bartender automatically opens a beer and hands it to him. And right behind him comes another local, who also has beer handed to him. This is obviously the local meeting place - for the town men anyway. And these guys are a crack-up! We listened and laughed all afternoon. Even got invited into the conversation (and to a pot luck dinner that would be going on after 6 that evening). Another lady drove up, walked in, and ordered a beer. Wifey and I talked with her for almost an hour. She ended up having TWO beers, then moved on. Three other gents drove up, came in and had a couple beers, then left. How do so many people just happen BY here? So we're having SUCH a good time with these folks, we order up another pair of GJ Manhattans, never bothering to ask how much they are (because, after all, we're on vacation and don't CARE how much...!). Plus, we're walking, so 'impaired driving" is not an issue. And with THESE Manhattans, it WOULD be an issue - ha. Three hours later, we're still sitting there having a HELL of a good time. Too bad this place isn't closer to home (Carson City) cuz we'd be here a lot. So, bottom line is, if you're anywhere NEAR Belmont on a Friday, or weekend, ya gotta stop here! It's the stuff stories are made of (as the sign says on the outside - ha). Oh, and if you want to know how to tell a local from a tourist at the bar? Locals all have a toothpick in their mouth. We tourists show up 'toothpick free'.

Sad to report this establishment is closed. There is another "watering hole" in town, Dirty Dicks…read moreBelmont Saloon. Nice place, COLD beer, awesome Bloody Mary.
