After…read morebeing a client for over 27 years, paying $4,000 each summer for weekly cleanings of an inground pool, plus paying them to open and close the pool each year, and replace liners, plus buying all supplies from them, thinking they were trustworthy, finally had cameras to prove they only cleaned for less than 11 minutes, didn't shock the pool like they were supposed to, didn't vacuum it well, left a valve closed, and the pump on, which burned up the motor. They charged $500 for a new motor, that they destroyed, and left wires hanging out on the new motor, plus, left the valve closed AGAIN, but turned the pump on running without water. Claimed they shocked it this time, yet 4 days later, a more reliable pool company said the chlorine level was almost zero!!!When contacted, they came and covered the wires they left exposed, and said they would go back and discuss what to do about this situation with the other owners, but didn't call back. When we called them, Kathy at first, acted as though she didn't know what we were taking about, then said her employees did not do anything wrong, and instead of taking care of their mistake, Kathy actually used the words that she was "firing" my mother as a customer. Oh, and I also found out that another pool place charges less than $300 for that motor, that should have been replaced for free, since they are the ones that burned up the first one, and possibly shortened the life of the new motor. Other family members tried to call, but Kathy was rude to them as well, told them she already fired my mom, then hung up on them, and said she was calling her lawyer on them. I've never heard of a business tests people so ugly, nor one that doesn't even consider that maybe their employee may have made a mistake, and maybe, a loyal customer for over 27 years, should be believed, and not treated this way.

My regular technician, Butch, is awesome--reliable, knowledgeable, and genuinely great to work with. Over time we've developed a solid personal relationship, which says a lot about the kind of people Douglas Aquatics employs. Today really stood out. I called with a chemical issue, and within 90 minutes, Joy, the new service coordinator, and John, the service manager, personally showed up at my house. That kind of response time is almost unheard of and speaks volumes about their customer-first orientation. Joy has been absolutely wonderful since taking over my account--responsive, thoughtful, and clearly focused on making sure customers are taken care of. John is a true chemical magician. He diagnosed and fixed the issue in about 10 minutes, but what impressed me just as much was how he handled the moment. He took the time to mentor Joy during the visit, walking her through exactly what he was doing and why. At the same time, he did an excellent job explaining the issue and solution to me as the owner in clear, layman's terms, which I genuinely appreciated. All the workers we dealt with were pleasant and relatively competent. The reason I would not recommend Coastal Contracting is primarily due to the lack of follow through with their one year warranty on materials. Our addition has been completed for about 9 months at this point, and we have had 3 distinct issues come up. Twice the HVAC has failed, and once the shower plumbing was malfunctioning. The first time the HVAC failed was right before the ice storm of early 2026, and we called the installing company to arrange service. They came out promptly and fixed the HVAC (faulty part, but we now had heat!) but we were told that we had to pay out of pocket for repairs since we did not first contact Coastal in writing. Ok. It then failed a second time right before the heat wave of July 4th weekend, so we contacted Coastal. We did get a personal email back after business hours saying that they would contact us after the weekend, which after 2 business days we have not heard from them. Again we did some repairs on our own. The plumbing issue happened between the two HVAC issues, so I was wise to submit my request for service in writing and followed up with a phone call, during which I was assured I would hear back...which I never did. It is just disappointing. Also disappointing were the many mis-ordered parts and vanity that delayed our project, the cut corners that we had to be vigilant about inspecting, and the surprise few thousand dollar increase in fee for a plumbing issue they did not see when they were quoting us. They admitted they didn't look under the house as they should have (I thought we were paying for their expertise?), but assured us that we could be happy that we were still getting a good deal. Maybe these hiccups and lack of communication after they get their check are all normal on a project of this size-I don't have any other point of comparison.
