I called Lifewise on November 15 and was told since there were no local in-network neurosurgeons we…read morecould request a benefit level exception. Today, December 3, I was told the exception had been denied and that we would have to travel to find an in-network provider in Oregon. The representative stated that while she understood traveling would be inconvenient, but since that was an option we had been denied. When I asked the representative to locate an in-network neurosurgeon in the entire state of Oregon, she could not. Then after holding longer, I was told benefit level exceptions are not permitted in Oregon. I pointed out that must be a company rule, since the insurance commissioner would not ban such a thing, and was advised I could appeal the decision which could take up to 30 days to receive a determination. FYI - for out of network services the deductible is doubled and so is the maximum out of pocket costs, so I would be facing $25,000 out of pocket.
