Most insurance plans cover for podiatry, and this is the best. Dr. Chelin understands that foot mobility (which strangely does not fall under the OHIP umbrella) and hip mobility (and yes, you can have your hip replaced at no cost) are both equally important to mobility. I am tired of having really achy feet, and Dr. Chilin and his team have proposed several solutions, which I am investigating. The lack of OHIP is a problem; once I've verified that the insurance will cover the surgery that would help, then I can proceed. Dr. Chelin and the clinic understand this dilemma, and are patient with it, as you investigate whether your treatment will be an economically viable option

Pickering Foot Clinic provides care for a variety of footcare problems, ranging from calluses to bone spurs and nail fungus, as well as issues regarding orthotics. Like all other chiropody and foot care services, the Pickering Foot Clinic does not fall under the OHIP umbrella, but most health insurance plans include paramedic services, which will pay a substantial portion, and sometimes even all, of the cost. As is the case with most foot care clinics, Pickering Foot Clinic does not submit the claim for you, but rather you submit it directly to your insurance for reimbursement. For me, this just took a few minutes of time online. As of the time of writing this review, Pickering Foot Clinic charged $140 for the intake visit. This was my first visit to the clinic. The office is clean and spacious, parking is plentiful and the office staff is welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The intake experience is very streamlined and efficient, and simply involved filling out the forms that they emailed to me and submitting them on line. I arrived early and Dr. Ali Bandali was able to see me right away. His warm, welcoming manner and sense of humor was reassuring, and he addressed my foot problems efficiently, but without making me feel rushed. Having been to foot clinics in the past, I was worried that I would be pressured to buy products or additional services which may be neither effective nor necessary. I was relieved to find that Dr. Ali was quite the opposite - honest, caring and interested in the efficient and effective treatment of my issue. I appreciated that he treated and shaved down my painful callus at the intake visit, rather than insisting that I book another appointment for this treatment. He provided me with a protective toe sleeve free of charge! I was also grateful for his honesty when he said that the problems would likely reoccur, as I need surgery to fix the underlying structural problems. Rather than trying to convince me to buy a lot of stuff, or even charging me extra for treatment at the intake visit, Dr. Ali directed me to an orthopedic surgeon. After my consultation and treatment, I left the office with an immediate sense of relief! Thanks to the treatment, I walked with much less pain, and thanks to the diagnostic information, I am able to address my concerns in a permanent way. Not only does he put you at ease with his corny sense of humour, but he also didn't take the opportunity to put me into expensive orthotics or scare me with bunion surgery horror stories. All I had to do was get good shoes with a hard sole to relieve the aggravation of my arthritic toe. And he also respected my appointment time so I didn't have to wait long like with most doctors and specialists. Highly recommend!

He did not recommend orthotics (it seems this is the "overall" cure recommended by some doctors) and gave me some suggestions as to how to alleviate the pain (and wear a bit of a heel, which makes sense in my case and I already knew I cannot wear flats or Birkenstock sandals). He works very long hours and he will even come in before dawn on most Saturday to accommodate patients who could not get an appointment to see him during the week. It's a very busy office and the phone lines are often busy. During lunch, 12-1 PM the phone lines are not picked. This is an inconvenience to people trying to book an appointment during their lunch time. Perhaps front office staff could have different lunch schedules in order to have someone answer the phone from 12-1 PM. I did not think this minor inconvenience warranted a lower rating. The office is closed on Friday. I am very satisfied and fortunate to have Dr. Richard Kalnins as my family doctor.
