As a teacher myself, I am so impressed with the ways in which they incorporate the children's interests into their curriculum. Everything is so hands on and discovery based and just so thoughtful. There isn't a single thing this school doesn't do with so much thought and respect for the kids and their learning experience. For example, they serve breakfast to the kids every morning on real plates, with real silverware and cloth napkins! Not to mention, fresh bouquets of flowers on the table every single day! The setting alone lets the kids know that they are worthy and respected. Every teacher at the school knows every child's name, even if they are not in their class. The events and activities they plan for the kids and parents alike are so in depth and high quality from the Farmer's Market to the Mother's Day and Father's Day celebrations, they do it with 100% heart and love. My son started here at 22 months as a very shy, nervous and timid boy and now runs to his garden/class with such excitement and enthusiasm every day. We started twice a week/half day, and slowly evolved to 5 days a week/full day. I truly can't say enough good things about this school and look forward to sending my second son here when he is old enough.

As for the bad reviews..all the parents at the language groove understand it takes a strong community and commitment along side the administration and teachers. What Mrs. Yessy created here is unlike any other place for children to thrive.

I literally never heard from her or anyone else again. Maybe they continued the classes on Zoom or something. I stopped by the school a few times but the door was locked. I'd paid something like $250 for 8 sessions and I did 5 or 6 of the 8. I contacted her about a year later after the horrid first phase of Covid was over, and she said she was sorry that we'd fallen out of touch and that I was welcome to return sometime. I think Irma is probably outstanding for one-on-one instruction. But after 6 class sessions, we hadn't really gotten very far, and I am sure I'd have had to pay her thousands of dollars before I was proficient in Spanish. I guess what I was looking for was something like a 4 or 6-semester Spanish class a couple times a week that wouldn't have cost me more than about $1,000 total (yeah, "good luck with that" in these times of inflation...) I actually did find this at Pierce College and it was way beyond bad - after 6 weeks of twice-weekly sessions, we were still on uno, dos, tres and learning how to use the verbs ser and estar. Anyhow, I wish Irma and her program the best, even if it didn't happen to work out for me personally.

When the class ended, I hired Irma to teach me privately, which she has done for the last three years. I have studied Spanish my entire life, and have had many teachers, but no one compares with Irma.  She not only has extensive knowledge of the language, but she is a very intuitive teacher who is able to assess her students and tailor the lesson plan to best suit their needs.  I also believe in Irma because she is very patient and thoughtful. Irma has had a tremendous impact on my life.  Firstly, she has helped me improve significantly my ability to speak, read and write Spanish.  Second, I really feel that the world is a more open place for me, because I am able to communicate with everyone in my environment, and speaking Spanish with native speakers immediately puts them at ease, opens up doors, and shows them respect.  I also feel that potential opportunities will arise for me because I am able to speak Spanish.  My Spanish lessons are extremely important to me, and I look forward to them every week.  If you are interested in learning a new language, School of Language Arts is the place you should go.

The growth I've seen academically and in his confidence has been truly remarkable. During every ongoing conference, the staff consistently provides detailed updates on how Sebastian is learning and how engaged he is during his sessions. They do a great job communicating exactly what he is working on and how he is progressing. The teachers regularly share feedback on his skill development, especially in reading. They encourage him to sound out words he doesn't know, then read passages with him after his attempt to ensure he fully understands the material before answering questions. What I appreciate most is how supportive and encouraging the staff is. They always reward Sebastian for his efforts, reinforce positive behavior, and work to build his confidence. He is constantly reminded to keep up the good work and reassured that he is doing well, which has made a huge difference in his motivation. Sylvan has been an amazing support system for Sebastian, and I am very grateful for the dedication, communication, and care they provide. I highly recommend Sylvan Learning Center in Northridge to any parent looking to see real growth and confidence in their child.

Because of this LVN program I was able to use it as a stepping stone and got into an RN program with a concurrent BSN partnership. I've used all my skills and notes that I've learned in the LVN program and my current RN program has been a breeze thanks to how much the LVN program prepared me. I'm honestly going to be forever grateful. I love how affordable this program was and how it was not a financial burden on me compared to other programs. A lot of people are hesitant of continuing on their education due to the lack of money (this should not be a factor on who gets an education and who doesn't) but this is a great program to open doors to many of us including myself to change our lives for the better !!! I passed my NCLEX 1st try and got an amazing job that I love all thanks to the amazing teachers that made up the LVN program.

I took the orientation class a few months prior, and the staff is very kind and welcoming. The students are also just as friendly, and you get to know them and socialize a lot in class. The campus has that commuter school feel, and half of it is in bungalows. I'd highly recommend NVOC to any student, especially those coming back to school after a long break. They recently brought back the pharmacy technician program, and have a bunch of other trades. I like how it's connected to other schools in the area under LAUSD. So far, it's been a very positive experience, and can't wait to be an official student.
