This would have been my nieces first year going with us. Not only did we all have to wake up early to get a rapid Covid test (due to them only being viable for 24 hours), but we also drove all the way to Columbus arriving 20 minutes early to find a sign on the door stating the performances were cancelled for today. I was furious, because I had just received an email before Christmas confirming my tickets. I then checked my email and BalletMet had sent a cancellation email at 11:35 for a noon performance. That's ridiculous. We drove over an hour, so unless I would've checked my email while driving on the highway, we still wouldn't have found out until we had already arrived. We will be going somewhere else next year, because this was a total let down. My five-year-old niece cried herself to sleep on the way home, because she was so excited to finally see The Nutcracker. To say this didn't put a pretty big damper on our holiday season would be a lie. They are reimbursing ticket sales, but what's money compared to a fun-filled day of making memories at the ballet :(

I have continued that Christmas tradition with my kids in Columbus and 3 other cities over the years. I have to say this was the most disappointing. The story line was difficult to follow and the dancing seemed chaotic. The Nutcracker has always been so traditional, peaceful and magical. This year did not give any of those feelings.

The best decision we made for our wedding -- hands down…read more We came to the studio as total beginners with one goal: Survive our first dance.. What we got was so much more. Our instructor took us two nervous, stiff, overwhelmed people and turned us into a couple who actually looked forward to practicing. Everything was broken down in a way that made sense, the lessons were fun and relaxed, and we felt way more confident after every session. By the time our wedding day arrived, we weren't just "getting through it." We actually looked like we were dancing naturally, and we were confident with it. Our guests were blown away, and it became one of our favorite memories of the entire day. If you're getting married and even thinking about lessons, do it. This studio made the whole experience easy, stress‑free, and genuinely special. Whether you want something simple and natural or a fully choreographed routine, you'll be in the best hands. We can't recommend them enough.

Their lead instructor, Emily, is one of the few female instructors in the area who has the credentials to compete at the professional open level and can compete with student partners in all four ballroom styles. But what makes Emily truly unique among the local instructors is that she's just as accomplished with club dances like salsa, bachata, and west coast swing, and can even teach dances that are harder to come by such as Argentine tango, kizomba, and urban kiz (the best dance, of course ;P). Basically, Emily is the most credentialed and well-rounded dance instructor in the area, and whatever your dance goals may be, she can at least get you started in the right direction.

Every third Saturday of the month, Habeeba hosts a hafla (dance party). Doors typically open around 7:30, but the show doesn't start until at least 8:00, and often later. How late it runs depends on the number of dancers, but 10:30~11:00 is typical, and it could be later. Admission is $10 at the door with all ages welcome. Indeed, there are often a bunch of little kids running around (and sometimes on to the dance floor...). The atmosphere is fun, positive, and upbeat, and dancers of all levels are welcome. I myself only started dancing in June so I haven't performed yet, but I think I might soon. Anyways, the typical hafla consists of various local (and visiting) performers doing a routine either solo or in groups. Most of the dancers are from Habeeba's school, but anyone is welcome. You don't need to be a professional or even have a fancy costume - sometimes performers dance to random songs just to show off some special technique, and you see everything from elaborate galabeya to flared dance pants with a tied top and a flashy hip scarf. Many of the dancers do perform professionally at local restaurants and events, so the quality of the performance is always pretty high. You can also learn a lot from watching the performers... and interacting with them. Throughout the evening, the dancers will take a break and there will be "free dancing". Basically, anyone who wants can come out on the dance floor to practice their moves, get advice from fellow dancers, and use the wide floor and mirrors to do a little perfecting of their moves. There are also group dances. This might be an actual tribal dance, a circle dance, or even a line dance. Anyone can join in, whether they take lessons of any sort or not, and it's a lot of fun. There is also "free" food in the kitchen area, including a lot of different wines, sodas, and snack foods. Some times there are homemade cupcakes or treats too. Habeeba also holds workshops and special events, often right before or in tandem with the hafla; watch the website, I guess, for information. Overall, it's a great way to spend a Saturday night, and for $10, a very good value given the show and snacks.

Once again, I am just so impressed by this wonderful dance studio…read more The instructors and owner are so kind and compassionate. They really care about students learning technique so they can progress as dancers, whether they are in it for the fun of it or in it to become a professional dancer. In fact, a couple of Butch's former students currently perform as Rockettes, another has been performing on Broadway for years, and others have been on college dance teams. Many of the Jr. Miss/Mr. Dance or Miss/Mr. Dance of Ohio have been instructed by Butch at some point (mostly during conventions, summer workshops) throughout their dance career. Many of the students have opportunities to perform locally and nationally whether it's through a local show or competition. Dance Masters of America is a large competition that students will compete at as well as Showstoppers and many others including local competitions. There have also been master classes offered at the studio but also at other studios/competitions that students have been encouraged to attend. Take a look at the wonderful ratings the dance studio receives on their Facebook page and you'll see how happy people have been with their experience. While I'm at it, I'd like to address the negative review on this page. It really saddens me that someone had a bad experience at the studio. I am certain if a dancer has an issue and it was brought forward to Butch it would be addressed in a positive matter. Again, he really cares for ALL students and pushes them to be the best that they can be.
