In the past, it has even been home to footballers including Benjamin Mendy, Leroy Sane and Zlatan, it is also a regular haunt for away football teams including PSG who stayed here ahead of their game versus United, I even managed to see Kylian Mbappe in the lift! Considering this is a "five-star" hotel, it does sometimes have good, affordable deals, I paid £100 for my room on a Sunday in early February, with breakfast costing just £12.50 more for two people, but rooms do often go much higher often costing between £126 and £200, and sometimes going much higher than that so the hotel is generally on the pricey side most of the time. I still don't understand why third-party booking agents are so much cheaper even by 20%+ in some cases, which was the reason I booked my reservation through Hotels.com Check out is far too early at 11, but they had no problem extending it to a more suitable time. Upon arrival at the hotel, I was greeted by a lovely employee who helped me into check-in and then shown me my room, kind and helpful, making sure I had everything I needed, including lowering the card hold from £100 to £1.50 because I didn't plan on any extras. The service in most cases was impeccable, one of the maids even offered to turn the bed over after emptying my minibar. The hotel lobby is also stunning, I was offered water on check-in which was infused with mint and lemon and tasted great. There was also two bottles of complimentary water in my room including fresh fruit accompanied by a personalised, hand-written welcome note, a lovely touch. Sadly they could only place me on the second floor, however, the room seemed to be mostly quiet as there were multiple doors between the lift, there was standard corridor noise but this wasn't as bad as other hotels, every door and lift in the hotel did require the room key - inconvenient but a safety feature. This hotel is stunning and modern, with large smart TVs including all Sky Sports channels (best TV in a hotel!), USB and European charging plugs. (I would have liked one closer to the bed!) The room also has a nice glass desk which is a perfect, spacious work area. Other modern features include a switch to open and close the blinds in the room, as well as a "do not disturb" switch rather than the sign which is used in 99% of hotels. I also liked how the hotel relied less on natural light which many modern hotels do now, hence having lights around the room including above each individual bed which can be turned on/off in parallel, making the room much brighter & nicer. I found my room to be warm and spacious, the heating system was easy to use and much quicker than other hotels I've stayed in again. The large bathroom with a stunning walk-in shower also was excellent. Information provided to guests from the excellent staff at reception and even through the live-chat system either with a senior hotel staff member or Edward, the virtual assistant which can answer most problems instantly which all hotel guests get. If the issue is too complex for Edward, the hotel gets back to you quite quickly such as when I had an issue with the fire drill - I was phoned in under an hour to confirm it is generally around 2 pm on a Monday. The hotel operator when needed, answered the phone quickly even at busy times. My room was almost perfect with a great TV and a comfy bed. I would have liked: having a pen instead of a pencil, earl grey tea in addition to English Breakfast & Chamomile and a larger bed. (I was given a room with two twin beds.) The tea however from the high-end Newby brand was fantastically luxurious. The wi-fi was super fast, with download speeds of around 90 Mbps, it is by far the fastest wifi I've experienced in a hotel. A decent breakfast is served in the Peter Street Kitchen between 7 and 10:30 Monday-Saturday (+1/2 an hour for Sundays & bank holidays). I added it at a reduced rate of £6.25 from £20. (see https://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/peter-street-kitchen-manchester) Overall with a comfy bed, I did have a decent sleep but struggled down to the size of the bed and slight corridor noises. I was told it wouldn't be possible to put an extra bed into a double room - therefore I was offered an upgrade for my next visit to the hotel later that week to the stunning Junior Suite. It was simply spectacular with a huge, comfy bed, an even bigger TV, coffee machine, a personalised housekeeper & more. In over 2100 reviews and close to 50 hotel reviews, I've never seen a hotel like this - luxurious, fantastic and with my only complaint is there's nothing to complain about, so with great delight, I am awarding the Edwardian a coveted five-star rating with the only main improvement being to keep working at this standard.

The duty manager in the morning ensured a smooth checkout and served the aforementioned breakfast beautifully. The only thing I would improve is to empower the staff more like in the best hotels, when I arrived after a long drive from London there was a problem with my reservation so I was hanging around in the lobby for half an hour while this was sorted when all I wanted to do was freshen up. When this has happened to me previously receptionists have said just go up to the room and relax while we get this sorted.

Upon walking in you encounter a whimsical ground floor receiving area. The actual lobby is on a higher floor. The check-in itself was swift and the team was very professional. We were early and they were able to stow away our luggage while we explored the city for a few hours. We booked the Inner Sanctum Suite which is a windowless room that has a video wall (they call it a Wonderwall) that subs as a view. The neat thing is you can change the video to simulate a view of a London, New York or Paris skyline. So cool! The room is elegantly appointed and had a very dark, sophisticated vibe to it. In addition to the Wonderwall, they also had a great sound system wired in that had Classical, Opera, Love Songs or 80's New Wave to choose from- how perfect! There were also so many special touches- local milk in the fridge, pink pig shaped iced cookies and a cheeky gossip rag that gave insights into the goings on at the hotel. There is so much care and imagination that goes into this property! This suite was perfect for a calm night's rest. My only regret is that we only spent one night in Manchester. The view is not as good as Manchester House but it's fun to be in amongst all the grand old buildings at the heart of the city centre. Rugs are provided and the staff appeared to be trained to come and sit with you to discuss each drinks order, which is useful if you're hesitating about the large cocktail menu. I had the Corpse Reviver No 2, a great suggestion from the bartender having heard my preferences which might be my new favourite cocktail - strong, smooth and light, it's the perfect Sunday afternoon drink. Unfortunately there was some confusion over my bf's beer order, so he got the wrong one (a very unfortunate mistake at £5.50...). Overall the drinks are about as expensive as you will get in Manchester, they are more expensive than Manchester House, some sitting at £14 aka London prices. The bill was therefore pretty eye-watering and frankly I probably wouldn't drink there again. That said, if you do stay in the hotel it's worth a visit as it's so quiet and has some nice views. Staying multiple nights I would advise you to check out some of the other bars nearby (Liquorice and Salut, for example, are very close). The room was very comfortable but, as I got a club room through a secret escapes deal, was small and somewhat strangely proportioned with a large empty hallway and then not much room for the bed. If you wanted a room to spend a lot of time lounging in, I would go for the next rate up at least. I did get a very good night's sleep though and did not notice any noise in the morning (Monday). The restaurant, where we had breakfast, is unusual in Manchester for being high up (6th floor) and has windows all the way around it letting in a lot of light and cool view of an angel statue. Breakfast was good, with high quality ingredients in the fry up and my bf's kippers were fantastic. Overall although this hotel is classed as a 5* I think going for the club rooms you may feel more like it's a very nice 4*. Value wise, that isn't bad, until you factor in the very expensive drinks.

The location of the hotel as suggested by the name is a part of the Emirates Old Trafford Stadium complex, it is also right next to Old Trafford Metrolink stop, which has services into Bury and Piccadilly, via the city centre, and takes around fifteen minutes, this also makes this hotel the ideal location to be close to the city centre but without the noise and heavy traffic. I managed to take a look at three different types of rooms during my stay, the first being a King Room with a Sofa Bed, this room did feel slightly cramped and the sofa did seem to get in the way a little, but like all the rooms this was comfortable. My friend stayed in this room and was very happy overall. The second room I tried was a standard King Room, this was much larger and more spacious, I was delighted with this room however due to an issue with the bathroom (The toilet was unable to stop flushing), I had to be re-located, due to no other standard rooms being available, I was upgraded to a King Room with a Pitch View. The King Room with a Pitch View was one of my favourite hotel rooms I've ever stayed in, the room wasn't too big, nor too small, but what made the room was the fantastic view, and the balcony, this is a dream come true for any cricket fan. The rooms did get very warm too, so having a balcony did help the room to cool, as windows in the standard rooms did not appear to open, and I did find the thermostat very difficult to use. I was also pleased with the comfort of the room, as well as the lighting and the fact the room was very quiet, I was able to sleep for much longer than I'm able to at many other hotels, which again goes to show for the good location. The room rates are very reasonable too, ranging between £63.75 and £85 for my stay, obviously, on event days the prices will skyrocket, but you can understand why. I did not manage to try breakfast during my stay, as I wanted to sleep for a little longer, but my friend commented "This is one of the few hotels currently offering a full buffet right now", and they did enjoy their breakfast. I do wish they continued it a little longer, during the week the breakfast ends at 10 am. The facilities in the room also were good, the TV was large, had a decent number of channels including Sky Sports, I was able to get a solid 5G connection in my room, reaching 100 mbp/s+, and I really liked the desk too. 5* - This hotel delivers luxury at an affordable price, it is a dream come true for a cricket fan and I am struggling to name any major issues or anything to warrant removing a star. I do look forward to returning and hope this hotel is used as a statement for how Hilton Garden Inn's should be. The extension to this hotel planned, which will add 100 rooms, will likely make the experience even better.

You can either enjoy a delicious plate of hot food with all your standard full English ingredients, all hot, mostly fresh or tuck into a lighter, cold option of fruit, cereal or pastries, however I think the pastries are included in a different, cheaper package. You can go back as many times as you like for more food and there's a toast machine where you make your own toast and enjoy with butter or a selection of different jams and marmalade. The seating area is very bright and very clean. The staff were really friendly and helpful and you didn't get too much attention that it became annoying. The atmosphere was quite loud on my visit but it was a Saturday morning and all the youngsters were looking hungover and regretful. You can walk in here anytime to get a table however it may not be guaranteed as the customers of the hotel would come first I presume. Only issue; I didn't get any mushrooms as they were being prepared in the kitchen as I got my food and by the time they were ready, I was full. But very satisfied.
