She listened to each concern I had and The entire staff from the person that asked if I was checking in to the nurse who took my vitals and the The reason I'm giving 4 stars is the lady you see after you have your appointment. I think she was Filipino. I don't remember her name but I gave her my new patient forms. She was rude when talking to me and I was confused because previous doctors I've had to do labs I've had to go another facility. So I didn't realize I had to go to the lab across the hall before turning in my form. She then had to raise her voice slightly and it really didn't sit well with me. I work in customer service and it really makes a difference when you talk to a worker who's respectful and nice to you. Every other point of contact at this place (receptionist who checked me in, doctor, nurse, the lab workers across the hall) were very professional except for her. In fact after I came back to turn in my form and give a copay, she was on the phone and her tone of voice was completely different and very nice to who she was talking to. Because of the excellent care from everyone else I will continue to come back.

God forbid you have a question about the medication your doctor just prescribed you, good luck getting an answer. The front desk staff will put you through to the medical assistants voicemail which says they'll call you back within "72 hours" which apparently in medical terminology means "never". This has happened to me on 3 separate occasions now. Moral of the story: if you have a simple question for your nurse or doctor, just make an appointment for that day. That's the only way you'll get an answer. Extremely frustrating!

As years went by, the deformities got bigger to the point that it was difficult to find comfortable shoes. These deformities caused pain that became more severe over the years; the pain made my walking very difficult and kept me awake during the night. I was diagnosed with bilateral bunions and surgery was the only option. In my country bunion surgery doesn't have a high rate of success, so I gave up the hope that I will ever have normal feet, wear normal shoes and be free of pain. My sister brought my case to Dr. Heilala's attention. When he heard my story, he was so kind that he offered to come to my country and operate on my feet. After he saw my X-Rays and the lack of modern surgical instruments and equipment he told my sister that it will be dangerous to do the surgery without proper instruments but offered to see me in Anchorage. I flew thousands of miles to see Dr. Heilala. He was so welcoming and talked to me so kindly! He gave me several treatment options, explained risks and benefits and helped me to choose the best treatment plan. The surgery was without any complications. I saw my "new feet" at the first post op appointment, five days after the surgery. I had tears of joy and happiness when I saw that my feet have no deformities and looked exactly as they were when I was young! Dear Dr. Heilala, You brought light into my life! You brought back my self-esteem! I am no longer embarrassed with the way my feet look. You brought back the joy of practicing my profession with the same elegance and joy as I did in my younger years. As a lawyer I defend people's lives and their destinies. Attire is part of my profession and my feet are part of my attire! You gave me the joy of wearing professional attire! You gave me the joy of walking barefoot on beaches, on green grass or dry leaves with out to be ashamed to show my feet! You gave me the joy of dancing again! Not just that, but he's a nice balance of being professional, efficient, and personable getting right down to business and making sure you get the care you need. Same goes with his assistant and PA working for him. Many people getting knee replacement surgery are discharged the next day, but he let me stay longer in the hospital to ensure my comfort, physical therapy, and readiness to go home.

Unless you are the earlier patient with a serious problem that he took the time to help. They didn't over book, they took more time than allotted when it was necessary. A doctor that can stay on schedule is what we have now: "what's your problem? Okay, here's a prescription. Next patient" And Dr Mike made it clear that he could not accept Medicare patients because Medicare doesn't pay for anything they consider unnecessary, which is anything beyond taking your vital signs. Those of us approaching Medicare age knew that and planned to pay out of pocket. He was worth it.

I had to stop treatment because my husband received out-of-state orders with the military. He helped heal my left foot injury that was causing a weird sensation going up my left knee. The weird sensation was going up my leg and he worked it out! My other pain due to being whiplashed took a very long time to heal. I'm very grateful for his medical training and expertise! You would think they would mentioned that I needed a covid test prior to coming in. I mentioned that they should please consider what it takes to take time off to see a doctor (and I live remotely, so an hour to drive) but was dismissed and said to comeback when I had my covid test completed. Needless to say I will not be making a another appointment here ever.
