I was nervous for my first appt because of things I had heard about the good doctor. Yes, he is one of "those" doctors who tell you that, "yes is yes and no is no". I was refreshed with his straight talk. There were some things with my health that I felt my GP and pain specialist weren't addressing. When I left Dr Turner's office, I had paid a copay and about $50 worth of NATURAL supplements. I think his supplements are very reasonable and very helpful. My insurance covered this appointment because he was seeing me for a certain condition and weight loss. If I saw him for just weight loss, my insurance would not have covered that. If you read the innovative medicine website, it is clear that most insurances don't cover weight loss and this is where most people complain. Have you ever looked at your EOB when you've gotten it in the mail? It will tell you how much the dr bills for each visit and every doctor I know charges between 150-250 depending on their specialty. I trust Dr Turner because of his straight talk. I trust his staff because they are very kind and answer all my questions, even the silly ones. We have been working on CBT therapy now, since I no longer do MAT shots or therapy. Only for immune diseases and seizures, and stomach issues now, gastroparesis. I was helping a friend by doing some research for her on weight loss doctors in her area. I found this doctor and, in checking out his services and reviews, found a shocking document that is part of his web page. https://innovativemedicine.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Tyrosine11.pdf In this upload to his website, he talks about how phentermine will lose effectiveness without being combined with a certain amino acid. He then writes, "Too bad there are so many of our patients who are too stupid to be able to understand how to do this trick". He then doubles down on this sick, aggressive nonsense by adding, "I hope you are one of those with enough cortical neurons to be able to understand and put to use the instructions that follow." I don't think my friend should do anything other than count calories and work out in order to lose weight, but if she is dead set on trying medical approaches, she sure as heck shouldn't go to someone who uses this kind of language to refer to his patients. This level of aggression makes me wonder what is going on with this guy. If i could give this review less than one star, I would.. Let me tell you how a lady named Pam ruined my world today. I am in my late thirties. Seven years ago I went through chemotherapy and radiation For cancer that forced my female parts into early menopause, causing my body to produce little to none of my own hormones. Bio identical hormones saved me. Even though i will be using them as supplements for the rest of my life, I am happy to report that they make me a normal, functioning woman. I fly to Indianapolis from Charlotte, NC to see Dr. Turner, because his supplements are a bit cheaper than i can find in Charlotte, and because I believe he actually cares about the quality of life of his patients. What i do not think he cares about is customer service. I was told today that I could find a doctor closer to me and that i was no longer a patient by Pam, the front desk lady who knows nothing about my past or why i fly 700 miles to this clinic. Pam interrupted me every time i tried to speak until i finally demanded she let me finish my thought before talking over me with her counter point. The pandemic has caused me to be unable to travel to get my yearly assessment by the doctors. I asked if I could have a few months of my hormones while i figured out safe travel arrangements. I also asked if i could skype with the PA and pay the same appointment fee. The answer was no. I am at high risk and do not feel safe traveling during this time of Covid, and the answer was no, to receive naturally derived supplements. An emphatic, unempathetic No, from the lady at the front desk who is not a doctor. You may ask why I let myself get this low in my supplements before calling for more~ every single time I have ever called this clinic for assistance, i have been treated in the most rude, ridiculously callous way imaginable and i have to work up the patience just to speak with these women.... I have been in a puddle of tears all day because in this uncertain time of a world pandemic, my one lifeline, my hormones that make my life resemble something of a normal one, were taken away by an impatient, rude, uncaring, non medical person named Pam who answers the phones for this clinic. I would never step foot back into this place even if they begged. Living with a body that produces hormones at a 30% capacity should not be accompanied by dealing with heartless front desk clerks like Pam. I pray she never feels what it is like to be sleep deprived and incredibly sad because her body doesn't produce enough estrogen like mine does. I have been seeing Amos (whose one of the therapists) now for 3 years now and 2 years about 5 years ago and if ANYBODY needs help with addiction I recommend Dr. Charles Turners office to everyone. They have been such a large part of my recovery and I'm so thankful. They have also been gracious when it comes to making payments and my monthly payment has went down because I've been going there for so long which they will do for anybody as well. I have been a patient with Dr. Turner for over 20 years. I had mostly good experiences with his office staff until recently. Two months ago a tumor was discovered on my ovary and my OB/GYN doctor and I decided it was necessary to do a hysterectomy. There were no malignant masses but there were some calcium deposits found in the tumor upon biopsy. I called to speak with Jill about some research I had done regarding this. Apparently if you take a certain type of magnesium and vitamin K-2 if draws the calcium out of the tissues and back into the bones. After the phone call with Jill, one of the girls at the front desk called and told me she was calling to check me out. I said, check me out of what? She said there is a charge for the phone call, $100 to be exact, this was a 10 minute phone call. I was never informed beforehand that there would be a charge for a phone call from the nurse. This phone call was 10 minutes at most. I have never been charge for any phone calls I've made to speak to a nurse or if a nurse called me from any of my other doctors offices. This is outrageous! He won't take my insurance, I'm on medicare and have gap insurance so I have to pay out of pocket for everything and I was told by the girl at the front desk this is their policy and this was the cheapest charge. I have policies too! I am officially done! Their lack of caring about the patient and rudeness, over charging their patients for their products which continue to rise and now charging patients for phone calls has convinced me to go elsewhere. In addition to this I haven't seen Dr. Turner in over five yeas. He is arrogant and only interested in promoting his supplements, therefore. I have been seeing one of the nurses. I used to like Dr Turner. Now he has gotten so large and now is more into sales and marketing. It would seem it is more about pushing the supplements he sells in his clinic and keeping upcoming appointments. If a patient is doing well and doesn't come to the office to be seen for an appointment or to purchase supplements it is not uncommon to receive a letter stating that you will be dropped as a patient. The price of his supplements and hormones keep going up. The last time I purchased hormone cream from dr Turner the cream had pieces of pills in them that were not fully crushed up. The cream was testosterone cream. So I am guessing they just crush up pills and put them in some cream and mark up the price. I feel like they build you up at the appointments and get you all excited and get you amped up to buy the products they sell. You walk out feeling good, excited, your head is spinning with excitement with what could come from the products you just just purchased, more energy, more focus, less fatigue, more stamina, lean body mass, vitality, then it hits you, your wallet is much lighter than it was before you walked into the clinic. I started going to Innovative Medicine in the fall of 2015, after seeing two endocrinologists, several general practitioners, and a number of specialists who were of no help. I've had mixed experiences. First, and most importantly, their treatment ended 6 years of pain, frustration, fatigue, and mysterious weight gain. For that I am forever in their debt! Second, Jeff the N.P. is knowledgeable, kind, and conscientious, and agreed to work with me after Dr. Turner and I had a disagreement (more on that later). Without him, I wouldn't be the much healthier person I am now. Third, I've been working with Carol Ruse-Kiger as my nutritionist/ dietition for most of the year and cannot recommend her highly enough. With her help, I've identified the foods that cause the majority of my problems: headaches, gut pain, fibromyalgia flare-ups, fatigue, and weight gain. Not only that, but she's helped me learn what kinds of exercise are most beneficial for my body, and how to make a radically different diet work for me every day. The only reason I didn't rate Innovative Medicine as 5/5 stars is because Dr. Turner himself has been difficult for me to work with. After one appointment with him, he told me to buy the wrong dosage of a medication I'd been taking for months. I didn't discover the error until I got home, and I was told they didn't do refunds on medications when I tried to return it. This policy was pasted clearly on the wall, so it was my fault for not knowing about it. I was very angry, because I was stressed about money and he had basically wasted mine because he hadn't paid attention to my records. I wasn't abusive to the office staff, but they could tell I was furious. Dr. Turner wasn't present at the time, so I wrote him a letter, maturely and succinctly telling him that I wished he had paid more attention and asking him to do so in the future. I never got a response to my letter in writing or over the phone from Dr. Turner. But I happened to view his response to my complaint letter at a later date. He had written all around the margins, saying they weren't obligated to work with me, that no one had to work with me if they didn't want to, that he wouldn't work with me again, and that I could go somewhere else if I didn't like the way he did things. Someone had written that I was "opinionated, difficult" in the margin of the first page of my records. I suppose that was a warning to future employees to watch out for me. I feel like I've gotten exceptional care from the practice as a whole, the office staff have been friendly, and most of the other staff are pleasant. If not for my interactions with Dr. Turner, I would rate it 5/5 stars. But, I have to give him credit for keeping the practice open to provide alternative treatment for people with abnormal conditions like myself. read more

On December 30, 2014 I met with Dr. Turner at Innovative Medicine to discuss weight loss options. The initial visit was $250. This included the consultation with Dr. Turner, Blood work and a 7 Day supply of Phentermine. I was then scheduled a follow up appointment to meet with, who I thought was, the in-office nutritionist. My second visit I met with Carol to discuss beginning the HCG diet. We sat and discussed my weight loss goal and how the HCG diet can assist with me reaching those goals. On this visit I was given 7 days of Phentermine and 7days of "HCG. This visit and each subsequent visit cost $100. So the first week of taking the "HCG" Shot and following the 500 calorie diet I lost 6 pounds. I return to Innovative medicine and was excited about the weight dropping off. I was supplied with my next week of Phentermine and "HCG" and was off. Then next week I lost another 5 pounds. Great! Then I stalled and stalled and stalled. I had 3 co-workers who were also going through the process of HCG at Innovative Medicine. We began comparing notes and researching a lot of information on the diet. As we uncovered more and more we found information that discussed how HCG suppressed hunger. Many of us were still struggling with hunger which made us question what we were taking. All the information on the internet states that true HCG when used on a pregnancy test will give you a positive result. So my co-worker went and purchased a pregnancy test and got a negative result. This can't be right so she went back and purchased two more test expensive test and each came back negative. Immediately ANGER set in for the 4 of us. It just so happens that our next appointment at Innovative medicine was the next day. We all arrived together and met with Carol the "nutritionist". We explained that we had tested the HCG and got negative results. She then began to say that not all the time will you get a positive result. We explained to her that all the information on HCG states that it will show up positive on a pregnancy test and we requested to speak with Dr. Turner. She left to go get the Dr. and the Medical assistant came in the room and stated that we should get a positive result on the test. She did the protocol 2 years ago and tested hers and got a positive result. She then proceeded to get a pregnancy test from the office and test the "HCG" and got negative results. She stated it may be a bad batch and then proceeded to get a new bottle and tested it and it also came back negative. In the meantime Dr. Turner did come into the room and apologized and said that the test is supposed to be positive. He stated that they would get to the bottom of it. Carol kept saying how she would have to contact all her patients and let them know. They all then left the room. The medical assistant then came back a few minutes later on the phone with who she claims was a representative at Empower Pharmacy, the company where they ordered the HCG. She then puts the lady on speaker phone and asked her to explain to us what she just explained to her. The woman "who never identified herself" begins to tell us how this was a new form of HCG that does not show up on a pregnancy test and how the FDA approved it. Suddenly the medically assistant begins to say well it is real because they got it FDA approved. REALLY! So the product you sell does not show up on the test that tests for that specific thing? In complete disbelief by the lack of knowledge of the Dr. and office staff of what they were giving to us and the mysterious phone call, we asked for information in writing of the products we received and a full refund. The office manager agreed to this minus the cost of the lab fees and stated they would have all the information and refund for us the next day. About 45 mins after the visit we received phone calls stating that we would only get refunded for the visits with the nutritionist. After we explained that we had a recording of the office manager stating we would get full refunds minus the lab fees they then agreed to give us what was initially agreed on but they would not give us a copy of the information received from Empower Pharmacy. Why all of sudden the secrecy? They also stated that they were ending their relationship with us because of the lack of trust. The next day we returned to Innovative Medicine and were given our refunds and a letter stating "Due to your concern about the quality of services provided through our facility, it would be prudent for you to continue services with another provider." We also received a very vague report that I guess is supposed to verify that it was real HCG. I personally do not trust Dr. Turner and his staff and would like to warn anyone considering using HCG through their clinic. PS. Carol is not a dietician or nutritionist. She is a marketing exec.
