On try #5 I contacted Dodge at Affordable Handyman. He told me they were very busy the week I called, and that he would call back the next week to set up an appointment. He did! He also called the day before to reconfirm the appointment. Wow! Maybe the bar is just so low based on my other experiences with contractors and handymen, but I was pleasantly surprised. Then he proceeded to show up on time (actually a bit early). He and his co-worker made, screened and installed all the frames while they were here and were finished within a little over an hour. They were both very professional. Last but not least, we paid much less than the quote we had gotten from the guy who didn't return. I highly recommend them!

Alex provided a very fair price, and the quality of workmanship was excellent. Communication was superb, and the project was even completed two days ahead of schedule! The finish is seamless, no need to hang pictures to hide anything, it's perfection. One of them was regarding the original round drain we had selected for the shower. Mike said to us, "With the quality of materials you guys are using, you need an up to date 'state of the art' drain for the shower" and nixed the old-style round drain. He installed a rectangular drain with tile inset and It turned out to be a great suggestion and we love everything about it! They came out, made some great design suggestions, wrote up the bid in very quick order. I picked out the cabinets and sink, faucets, and countertop at their design showroom (cabinets are solid wood). They promised they could get this done within roughly a 2-week time frame and they were spot on with that commitment. The workers did a fantastic job. And all messes were cleaned up. It looks great. Moreover--this is not a condo that we wanted to sink a fortune in and they were completely willing to work within my budget. Final note--last year I had another individual (not related to their firm) redo the shower. That person put in the wrong corner shelves--Bruno General Contractors were able to remove the shelves and install the ones that I had originally purchased for the job. Amazing work.

The quality of flooring selected, and the installation was very good (5 stars). I deducted one star from the overall rating (4 stars) because of a $300 additional charge at end of project due to Ward indicating that the installer sub-contractors had to use more leveling product and floor grinding than was anticipated. Not sure if there is an industry standard in giving an estimate on floor prep when one cannot see the bare floor and Ward's original estimate was unclear on the possibility of additional charges. Unlucky us, we were living in a home with unlevel concrete floors that needed more than normal leveling to ensure a quality LVP install. No doubt, a level surface is critical to a quality LVP install given the thinness of LVP boards and undersurface padding. My advice to a homeowner on a limited budget and/or wanting to avoid unexpected end of project additional costs is to hire a handyman labor person to remove carpet, pad, tack strip and prep floor ready for flooring contractor estimate to determine upfront what leveling and/or grinding is needed for proper install (no surprises at end). The homeowner if handy and willing, could even due this simple labor themselves and save even more money on the project. Using lower cost simple labor or free if doing it yourself vs. skilled higher paid installer labor to get a bare floor, would save money in overall project costs - especially on a large sq. foot project. Bottom line: would I hire Apex Flooring again - YES. However, I would make sure with getting estimates from any flooring company the first estimate was the final cost.
