I went on a 6-day yoga binge last week as part of the yoga health month, get a free week of yoga at your local studio promotion. Let's jump right in.
In contacting the studio by email, I was promptly responded to and after some confusion, invited to just bring the form in and they'd take care of everything (though there was a glitch in the yoga promo system).
I rushed over to the 9am power yoga class on Monday morning with Linda. This was a great intro to yoga for me! There were a bunch of teachers in there, so most were noticeably more advanced than I, but I felt no pressure to push myself harder than I was able. I felt a good deep burn for the rest of the day/night, and felt delightfully calm and flexible.
Tuesday I went for a Vinyasa Flow with Ashley. This was a community class and less straining than the power yoga the day before. Again, great support from the teacher, and hints to make my poses more correct/go deeper. And suddenly, I'm balancing my legs on my triceps and hanging in the air. I had no idea I could do that! More soreness, and stretched-outiness for the remainder of the day.
Wednesday I wasn't able to bring myself to an 8 am class and went to Western Bagel instead : ) I made up for it by taking another Power Yoga with Meghan later in the day. Gentle, encouraging instruction, and lots of personal attention from her. Best part- at the end she pulled you out to full extension during the rest period, and gave a little massage on the shoulders and face. Nice! Felt great after this class and powered through my evening.
Thursday I pulled out the big guns and took an Ashtanga with Zach. I had no clue really what this class would entail. They all kinda sounded the same to me, with minute differences. My butt was totally kicked in this class. He pushed me so hard! It was great. I certainly felt the repercussions of the intensity for the next few days, but felt pushed in a great way, and proud of myself for attempting all the really tough poses and holds. I hobbled over to the grocery store after this, and wasn't walking quite right until the next day : )
Friday I took Qi Gong, thinking it would be similar to a Tai Chi class. There was a lot of Chi movement going on, but after the intensity of the last few days (most especially Thursday) the calm slowness of this class wasn't quite the pace I was looking for. Still, great and kind instruction.
Saturday ended my binge week with yoga as I ended up with a schedule conflict and wouldn't be able to do restorative on Sunday. I chose aroma-yoga flow with Ania. This wasn't quite as heavy on the aromatherapy as I was expecting, but it was still a nice, peaceful, strong, but light yoga class. Small class, with lots of personal attention.
I most definitely enjoyed my week of yoga at Inner Power. I have no qualms recommending this studio to friends and family. Very supportive, friendly vibe, with the opportunity to make it as hard or as light as you'd like. Linda, the owner, was usually around the studio (which was beautiful and peaceful) and asking me what I thought of the classes and how I was liking it. No sales pressure or anything, just genuinely interested in how I was doing. Great personal attention! read more
