I checked myself into jail early with a court visit ,they got me booked and had me wait in a holding tank in Van nuys with a bunch of other ladies, while we waited to be bused downtown, they gave us a sugary orange drink, a package of peanut butter, jelly and some bread,its super weird we got this same thing for every meal,pretty sure there was a mix up in the kitchen but I didn't want to appear high maintenance by complaining , there was one woman eyeing my apple ,she asked for it so I gave it to her, great 15 minutes in the pokey and I'm already giving shit up!! There was a schizophrenic woman that washed her hands about 50 times within a 20 minute period, and another big chick who took such a fierce stanley steamer in the toilet the fumes almost singed my eyelashes off. Then we finally got on the bus to the TT . I sat next to a woman with pink eye,black roots, two gold teeth and breath that smelt like she just ate a shit sandwich for breakfast,unfortunately she wouldn't stop talking to me ,but this was interrupted by the gang bangers in the back making cat calls.(a word from my generation) When we got to the jail ,we were greeted with such positive vibes,so welcome and inspiring, female deputies telling you were to stand and go, let me just say you can tell right away that there is absolutely no abuse of power in this place or any corruption at all one would never get that feeling at all coming into this jail there's any post-traumatic stress or tension in here at all!! I was thrown into a tank and I had to go to the bathroom , the nice guys throwing gang signs across the hall could see me , they were pounding on the glass and cheering me on at this time I really wanted to cry I felt such love and support some were even grabbing their crotch to show me they knew what I was going through ,we all waited in a room to be processed and we watched a few episodes of cops. In this female section there was a bevy of different women from all walks of life there was the hardcore prison women and then there were the ostentatious track-hoes in flashy clothing. If I was to name this movie it would be "The Bunny Ranch meets Alcatraz". I met some friends from Chow chilla prison that were down there to see the judge ,yup I was forming my squad /my crew, my posse. We were the spiritual crew talking about higher powers and Abraham Hicks,The Secret .I was feeling my wings and independence at this point . We all got thrown in another tank ,then sent off for a shower ,we all got to pick a pretty little scented soap and took a 3 minute freezing shower after the shower we all got a pretty orange Ivanka Trump jump suit and white flats to wear... back in our tank a track hoe started masturbating in the corner under her coat and the Chow chilla ladies wanted to jump her for it ,after several more tanks upstairs we finally got our bedding 1000 thread count Laura Ashley sheets and a goose down feather bed,as the lights went out I dozed off to the lovely jail sounds of fighting , yelling and the track hoe masturbating off in the distance a few beds away,but before you know it my name was called and I started back down the slope to exit this happy place. Bye the time I got to check out they told me I never checked in $80.00 but theres no way these honest , deputies would ever lie to a inmate or do anything dirty so I second guessed my self and asked again anyways , ironically enough they found it . I stepped outside and it was about 6:30 am the next day, the sky was breaking and I walked down to Denny's for a grand slam Breakfast! I went to jail scared and i came out with stories of racism towards those who were classified as black or others by the hispanics, and stories on how homosexuality runs rampid with the straight inmates and how these closeted homosexuals mistreat the gay inmates. Must say I was pretty unenthused about the whole process of visitation at this location …read more... recently found out my best friend was incarcerated at this facility and let me just say I put off the visit for a week or two, due to my experience of sheer hell , total waste of time and un due stress and anger id have every week twice a week from December 2012-January 2014 and again late 2016 to mid 2017. Happy to say this time was a vast improvement! Kudos to the Staff , which was courteous and prompt, and no long lines. Besides the bucket in middle of waiting room collecting the roof leak, it seemed way cleaner. Can't vouch for the bathroom which was always just horrifying! Line moved smoothly, officers weren't standing around shooting the shit and ignoring us and letting the line build....or didn't flirt with the hood rats or talk shit or be extra with each individual...... Names called pretty promptly.... actually called within 15 minutes of checking in.... I used to fall asleep waiting for my ex boyfriends name to be called. The major problems back when was the officers always without fail would make some snarky remark or be on some enormous power trip and loved playing god with your visits. Guess al the complaints really prompted some customer service skills or on a more realistic way of putting things, the county decided to place the old officers whom were void of any human emotions somewhere that didn't involve the general public... Also the lines and disorder of the visitation was just outrageous. Congrats on getting it together, Really makes our day go by smoothly, it's nice to not be punished for our loved ones mistakes lol! I will say that the rate for parking is pretty high.... while wayside offers free parking... this is why I gave you 4 stars.

I was incarcerated here for International Parental Kidnapping. I took my children to Mexico…read morewithout their father's permission. Were there drugs? Only the ones that were prescribed for the inmates. The building is getting old, built back in 1989. It's falling apart, because the inmates do most of the plumbing with minimal supervision. For the eleven months I spent there, they kept telling us we were moving to another unit that will be fixed up for us, but nothing happened. Any problem with the showers just meant that the shower would be locked up and couldn't be used or repaired. I cleaned the showers. Was there violence or rape? Yes, there were fights, but I hear much fewer than in other jails. I haven't been to any other jails or prisons, so I only know what I hear. No rapes. I had an inmate threaten to kill me in my sleep for humming and singing in the room after lockdown. I called a lieutenant, and he basically yelled at both of us, saying he couldn't move us unless it was to a punishment room. Luckily, another officer moved me five minutes after he left. I told the other inmate that's why she was in jail, if she thought that threatening to kill someone was somehow equivalent to humming in the room. The officers were generally pretty good, but the institutional nature of jail is pervasive, so even when they would like to be kind or help you with anything, they have their hands tied. We often marveled that anyone would choose to come to jail and be "in prison" with us, and when we wanted to be kind to the officers, we were also not allowed. I volunteered to play the piano downstairs for both Protestant and Catholic mass, using a paper piano that I made to practice when I was back in our unit. I also attended the Buddhist services and met the Rabbi a couple of times. It was a constant problem for me that each of the religious leaders would tell us how other people were wrong, in order for their beliefs to be right. I am still looking for a Pastafarian to volunteer to minister to the souls at MDCLA, especially the female inmates, where I left the Gospel and a few believers who wish to practice together. If you live near downtown LA and have the time and inclination to really help people, please contact me or the Chaplain to offer your services. If you or your family have questions about MDCLA, ask me, I am friendly and willing to help you. My public defender told me that I could be a consultant for other families going through the federal justice system. I also have some experience with the Department of Children and Family Services at this point, so feel free to reach out. I have much more to say, but if I keep going this will turn into a book. These group of young boys (specifically white) were harassing me and 1 in particular was shoving a camera in my face less than a foot away from my damn face and taunting me. So what if I'm homeless? Leave me alone! I get it - you can film anyone including children in a public space but they were in my personal space as I asked them to leave me alone. BTW THIS WAS ALL FILMED ON THEIR PHONES!!! I took out a taser and my spring assisted knife and charged at them. If they white boy didn't move, I would have stabbed him but I stabbed their rental cars several times. Cops show up. See me with the knife. I'm automatically arrested. They never got my side of the story even though it was all on tape!!!! For my most serious crime, I only did 5 days and released with an ankle monitor. Luckily I never had to pay for any damages - I wonder why?? Lousy investigators and police work. In the past, I've gotten jury summons from Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, West L.A., LAX, and Torrance courts. As it turned out, this courthouse wasn't that bad. I got used to the 10-15 minute walk from Disney Concert Hall for free parking. The parking garage lines moved fast upon entering and exiting with workers scanning the jury badge for you. The court security line was never long and it moved fast. The Jury Assembly Room was pleasant and spacious. Restrooms were clean. The workers I encountered were nice and efficient. The worst part of this courthouse was definitely the elevators. Prepare to wait!!

But my main issue is that all the floors that the courtrooms are on are just so soul sucking. They're lifeless, cold, uninviting, and just miserable to be in. Everything is just so sterile. It feels like you're in a Soviet Era government building, not Los Angeles. I just wish they did the most basic of updates to give the place some sort of life to it. Los Angeles Police Department in the north east area are completely useless. I've complained…read morenumerous of times about the same suspect three times to them and have yet to do anything or inform me on anything at all and I continuously get harassed by the same individual. They need to destroy this police department fire everyone from the department because they are obviously not doing anything to change the community the slogan of protect and serve is a fluke, even though they made the vow. It's embarrassing how the community is as peace officers when they lack accountability of performing their jobs we should just create Minutemen or some type of militia to start serving our streets properly because they aren't doing it give us the payroll.
