I am so excited to get my new custom-made clubs this week! The fitting session was so good that I set my husband up for a session with Glenn, too! I bought him a full set of Taylormade R-11s last year and now I want to know if they were the right choice or if they need to be tweaked a little. Glenn was very encouraging while reviewing my set up, swing, and follow through. Through the use of several devices, Glenn suggested the proper lie, loft, length, and firmness my swing requires. It was the first time someone wasn't telling me to adapt my swing to the equipment but rather to keep my natural swing and change out a few clubs. Glenn was very fair and he never pushed me to buy a whole new set of clubs. In fact, there were plenty of items in his shop that were more expensive than what he suggested I use. That proved to me that he had my best interest in mind and not merely his profit margin. Now that you have my specs is on file, Glenn, you have me as a lifetime customer! Although we've been down to the Daytona area many times, I had no idea until last week that this…read moreplace existed. Hidden off the A1A between some condo high rises and back by the Publix, Walgreens and Shores Community Center. Don't let the name fool you. While it is called a golf club, and I guess there are memberships, it is very much a public course that aside from the brief times when they have leagues, you just show up and play. A few notables: - Right now the course is "under construction" which to me looks like they are just trying to grow some fresh grass on their tee boxes. This means right now it's all temp. tees which only make short holes even shorter. - You can check the layout and distances on their site before you play but right now I don't think anything except maybe #8 is over 100 yards and the shortest are in the mid-20's. You could load the ball in your ass and fart it on the green easier then using a club for something that short. - Obviously with a course this small there are no motorized carts. Everything is walking but they do rent pull carts and clubs and they sell balls and if you're so inclined tees. Do you really need a tee to play here? No, you can get by with a wedge and a putter although if you do rent clubs, they give you a bag with a putter, a wedge or two and an 8 and 9. - Was it busy? Not at all. It was a hot as hell Sunday and aside from two older guys who stopped around five to let us play through, we had the place to ourselves. The guy in the clubhouse said in summer they are usually dead and that most of their rounds are from snowbirds who play far more in winter when it's still warm, but not right now when it feels like you're playing on Mercury. - Hours are 7:30 to 6 during DST and until 5 during standard time. Overall the course is a bit beat up with some brown fairways and greens but the pricing is decent and it's always more fun when you mostly have the course to yourself. The course layout is really fun and the conditions were excellent. Greens rolled nicely, and the fairways and tee boxes were in very good shape. The pace of play was perfect. I hardly had to wait on any holes which made the round really enjoyable. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, especially the bag drop/starter and the bartender. The pro shop is beautiful and well stocked with plenty of merchandise. Before the early round I grabbed a coffee, and at the turn I tried their "3-minute breakfast sandwich" (rye, egg, cheese, and sausage) with another coffee. It really did come out fast and was delicious. Also saw turkeys and rabbits on the course which added to the experience. Overall a great public course and I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area.

The clay tennis courts and pickle ball courts are very nice as well. The sunset grill and main dining room offer a variety of food choices. But, the most important attribute of Sugar Mill are its members. The members are welcoming and most importantly friendly. Sugar Mill offers an affordable private club experience. All of this and the beautiful New Smyrna Beach are a true gem. If you are considering relocating to Florida you must give Sugar Mill Country Club and its surrounding neighborhood a look!

We raised a glass to cheers my dear friend and a big thank you for the invite and I may have planted a kiss on her cheek. The private venue offered some socializing we've been missing with our good friends and of course the incorporation of some social distancing, but still the accommodations offered an intimate setting and the staff completely understands the importance of giving everyone space but still managed to provide exceptional service. I know there's an invite pending for a wonderful dinner in the near future and after touring the restaurant and sports bar it's looking like I'm going to have to drop a few more hints so I can experience it all. This is a beautiful Country Club with lots of amenities with a small membership, there's nothing not to like about this place...

LOVE this place! There are a few places to dine in Ponce Inlet, but this is mainly a residential area. We make a short drive north to hit Daytona or south for New Smyrna Beach for more restaurants.

The course is well themed and one of our favorites out of the other nearby courses. There is a scavenger hunt that is included on your score card as well for an extra activity to do while golfing.
