I have boycotted this paper the office and the entire enterprise that is the "Inlander" newspaper and would encourage anyone who values woman's right to do the same. There are children being trafficked and this newspaper has the audacity to state in a formally written article that "trafficking does not occur in Spokane." This is truly a slap in the face for every marginalized person in Spokane. Every female as well. Would they publish an article so blatant, as to say domestic violence doesn't exists no because that might provoke outrage. Yet they got the bright idea to allow someone to publish an article at the height of the exploitation epidemic in Spokane, when there is a task force to combat human trafficking. They are picking on weak disenfranchised even children by spreading this nonsense around the media. When I contacted the author he gas lit me and stated how do you know human trafficking exists? Truly they allowed someone to publish this. I do not know who reads yelp but please join me in boycotting this newspaper. What could improve: After you publish an article in this era that states human trafficking doesn't exist in the inland northwest you are not really for even children's rights. Because it obviously doesn't exist some human rights agency should sue them for this and probably would win for promoting human rights violations rubbish. It's like publishing something that stated; slavery is not a thing during the abolition movement; it's appalling. Really truly think they need to get sued because really truly think freedom of speech should not apply to this trash slavery promoting filth in print. What's next would you publish an article that says serial killed don't exist no but somehow this paper thinks it's suitable to pick on trafficking cases? read more

After seeing the cover for the most recent issue with the 2013 year in review, I have decided The Inlander can sink no lower. What journalist with any sense would hide Nelson Mandela in a photo collage so that he is almost unnoticeable, but puts a full body feature of Kim and Kanye? Sometimes there are good articles, but mostly there is an obvious political slant that plays pretty fast and loose with facts. This is a new low, however. How can you possibly believe that Kim and Kanye deserve more focus than Nelson Mandela? And Barak Obama is front and center. If Mandela had not broken down barriers for the whole world to take in, I seriously doubt that President Obama would have gotten elected. Even more insulting is that Miley Cyrus is also front and center. Does she really rate more influence in our world than Nelson Mandela? This is a new low for you, Inlander. As someone who's been in Spokane only a couple months, the Inlander has helped me immensely. It's the closest thing Spokane has to a giant culture message board (much like this site, but significantly more active...and in print rather than electronic form). I think it strikes a great balance between "serious" news, humor, and reviews. The entertainment weekly of my last city which is actually quite a bit larger than Spokane (Oklahoma City, believe it or not) pales in comparison to the Inlander. A great rag to dial you into the local culture or just to see what concerts/events/festivals are coming up. read more

I pick it up at my local Rosauers, and can't wait to get home and read it. Meh. What can I say, I've been reading the Stranger for over 10 years. That's my standard for a 4star paper- the writers are so good that I will even read articles about shit I don't care much about. For the Inlander the writing should be interesting enough to possess my attention. I don't know if this is true but years ago I heard the editor(s) there do not give their writers much freedom. Sometimes they do great features, I was shocked when weeks ago I saw they did a feature on the top 10 censored news stories of the year (projectcensored.org) I mainly just look at them for the music/dj listings for each week. I wish Spokane had a weekly that was more clever, more profound, less predictable, less cliche. Like, something that would challenge this city to become a more dynamic place read more

By far the best newspaper that comes out in this city, far outdoing the Spokesman that looms largely just down the street. I remember counting the days until a new edition would be dropped off somewhere around town. The actual location of the company that does the Inlander is right next to the masonic temple and the Spokane Club. Some nice park benches in the middle of the road offer a good place to go and sit after you've picked up the latest copy, and it's even possible to play a game or three of chess/checkers on one of the boards in the island. read more

I read the Inlander every week cover to cover. When out of town I have family save me copies. There are reports on things i know little about - and then I look for more about the issue. I learn about local issues and local stores - and I feel it is important to support our community. It available in so many places and that makes it easy to pick up. read more
