The studio itself is a collective owned by three women and the vibe is professional, relaxed, and inclusive (that was important to me); aside from being talented artists, they do good things in the community, like food drives and fundraisers. Good vibes with your ink, you know? And I *love* my new lupine tattoo: Fae specializes in nature-inspired fine-line work and I'm thrilled with the design she came up with, which is both minimalist and faithful to nature, with a touch of the abstract. She's terrific at listening to her clients and carefully describing everything that will happen, so whether you're getting new ink or you're a newbie, you'll feel well taken care of. Spent three months travelling throughout Maine and although there was only three CVS pharmacies in…read morethe entire state, I was both surprised and relieved that there were actually more Aveda Salons and this one 45 minutes from where we were staying. I was doubtful that they would agree to respond to an internet inquiry as I wouldn't be a repeat customer but was pleasantly surprised when not only they responded but put with one of their most senior stylist as I was sure I'd be put with a newbie. I understand everyone has to start somewhere but I had a sudden health crisis a year ago that resulted in major hair loss. I was subsequently deeply concerned about a neophyte coloring and trimming my hair. I emailed them my regular stylist's "recipe" and Naomi was an absolute master at her craft. She did an incredible job and was very much a subject matter expert as to what I could do to protect my hair that was coming back in and asses how much new growth I had given it was all uneven. I am strictly team Aveda for years and years but often the sacrifice is the personality of the stylist and although I'm fine with silence, Naomi was the absolute coolest and a complete delight. Do hair and your psyche a favor and schedule an appointment with Naomi, you're worth it and so is the experience.

Unfortunately, I wasn't greeted when I walked in--even after I cheerfully said, "Hello, how are you?" There was no response back besides a look, and when I asked about availability, the response I received felt cold and dismissive. One of the women at the front desk did seem kind--I wish I had spoken only with her. As someone who just moved to the area, I was hoping to get some helpful information and maybe become a new customer. I rarely leave reviews, but the interaction left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. It's a shame, because the place itself looks great. But based on that first impression, I won't be returning. The way I was treated made me feel like a bother rather than a valued potential customer.

When I first found this business, I was very happy. My nails looked great, I went twice. By the…read morethird time I went, I had to ask to come back again to have them fixed. I don't have a lot of time off, or a lot of wiggle room with my schedule, so coming in twice in one week was a huge inconvenience for me. They also made it very clear that it was an inconvenience for them. Regardless, I asked for pink and white, and they were terribly sloppy. They fixed them free of charge, and that was great. I went in tonight, and the same person that I always end up talking to let me know that they close at 6 o'clock on Saturday. (That's a lie. Online it says seven.) I also know it's seven, because there was one time I called and let them know that I was going to get there around 6:30 and I was very sorry because they close at 7. They were unhappy, which I get, but at least I gave them notice. They provide a service, I needed the service, and we met in the middle. Lying straight to my face was something I can't look past. Another thing I didn't appreciate- the prices changing each visit. (I get the same thing every time.) I won't be back!

I've been debating whether to leave this review, but I think it's worth sharing. While I was…read morepicking out a polish color, the owner called out my name across the salon and said they didn't have all day. When I sat down for my appointment, he told me again that next time I should come an hour early to choose my color. I sat through my manicure feeling embarrassed, and the tech doing my nails seemed visibly uncomfortable after I was scolded in front of everyone. The manicure itself wasn't up to the usual standard, and one nail had already broken by the next day, and I ended up with a nail color I don't like. I understand salons can get busy, but a quiet, polite heads-up would have gone a lot further than being called out by name in front of other customers. It left me feeling embarrassed and unlikely to return.
