However, once we made the initial payment, the staging dates began to shift repeatedly. When the staging was eventually completed, it became clear that the space had not been properly planned for. It seemed like the furniture was selected without fully considering the layout of the home, which resulted in a disjointed final look. When we raised concerns, the response we received often felt dismissive, and responsibility was repeatedly shifted back to us. Over the following weeks, after multiple discussions, we were eventually able to get some of the furniture replaced. However, these delays pushed the project timeline back by nearly a month. As a result, the photographer was not able to come on schedule, and we missed the peak selling period of the season. To make matters worse, during the de-staging process, one of their team members accidentally removed or discarded the hardware for an expensive grill, causing additional damage estimated at several hundred dollars. Throughout the process, the Voila team largely denied responsibility for the issues raised. While they described their service as "premium staging," much of the furniture appeared low quality and inconsistent with that positioning. Overall, the delays, damages, and lack of accountability resulted in significant financial and timing losses on our end.

I agreed to work with Sabine for my commercial project. She was to design and manage the construction of my salon. It was a failure from the beginning. I have to say she came up with a beautiful design but her execution and knowledge of commercial were so bad it ended up costing me $65,000 extra to use her services because she made so many mistakes. She completely mismanaged the execution, left entire phases off the budget, and missed two code required designs in the drawings that cost me thousands and delayed my opening. The furniture and fixtures are not practical and while the salon looks great I needed to re-do a lot of her designs and buy new furniture because it is not functional as a salon and customers are complaining. After she and I finished the project and she was paid in full, even though she cost me thousands of dollars and delayed my opening by 1 month from her mistakes and missing the code required designs. She has since brought her car to my repair business for service. She needed approximately $2000 worth of work. She told me she couldn't afford to pay and asked if we could barter services. I told her I wanted to complete some miscellaneous things from the first phase and to fix some of the issues we were having with her design. I said yes we could barter services and fixed her car for $2000. We did not agree on what her services would be or what the project would be. I just told her I wanted to start fixing the salon. A few weeks after we fixed her car we had 2 pre-start up meetings about what was needed to be done for the 2nd phase. According to her she went and started to do the work for phase 2. She did this work without a budget and without approval from me. Then, I get an email from Sabine with an invoice attached for $3000 for her services from the pre-start up meetings and research for phase 2. We didn't even use anything she created. So now, I owe her $1000. Sabine is great with design but is not detailed, quick, or experienced enough to work with on a professional level or for projects with scopes larger than $20,000. She is not ready to do commercial projects and you will have to follow up with her because she is not well organized or detailed. I had to take over her budget in phase 1 because she kept messing it up and did not track it properly. I'm appalled she would charge me $3000 for meeting and research after everything that has happened.

Carole Lee of Carole Lee Interiors is, as is typical, a general contractor, which means, beyond her…read moredecorating skills, she's only as good as her subcontractors, be they rug designers, carpet installers, furniture makers, concrete layers, home remodelers or fabric sewers. Carole has a good eye for what is right, but sometimes you will, naturally, disagree. The quality work of her subcontractors ranges from A (the majority) to D+; that comes to a B-. She has been written-up and lauded in local magazines. Nevertheless, from time to time a few workers need to return to fix mistakes, and the vast majority have done so. Once in a while she can't persuade a subcontractor to return, and this will cost YOU time, money and a headache to hire someone else to correct a problem or finish a job. (In my latest interaction two such workers wouldn't return.) I have infrequently used Carole Lee Interiors on-and-off for about 30 years, more extensively recently. She is quite personable and has very good decorating skills, but the questionable work of a few key subcontractors should give one pause when choosing an interior/exterior designer and decorator.
