Nothing but love! We just moved to Pittsburgh this year and…read moreneeded to find a daycare for our 5-year old son. Due to our busy work schedule, most daycare centers' hours just won't work for us. We were almost desperate until we found Gloworm, what a jewel in the rough! It would stay open till 8PM during week days and open on weekends as well. You can purchase 50-hour full-time package or 30-hour part-time package, and they would charge you based by the hours your kid stays there. For any unused hours during week days, you can use them during weekends for errands or shoppings in nearby malls. All the teachers are loving and sincerely care about my son. They arranged all sorts of activities during the day so the kids can learn and grow. My son always said that he had so much fun at Gloworm and made friends with kids of all ages because they have group session with everybody participating! We also send our 9-year old son during summer and he enjoys Gloworm as well much to our surprise. He would draw, cook, play sports and games during his stay there, and he loves the teachers and facilities there as well. One thing I really like Gloworm is that they will send multiple photos and videos everyday through Tadpoles and emails so I can see my kids grow and have fun everyday while I am away. Lots of great memories captured! I would highly recommend any parents who want flexibility in their schedule and love environment for their kids. They will have great fun and experience there!

When you attempt to have an adult conversation about your feelings, she loses her ability to think rationally and asserts her dominance once again. She attempts to micromanage every situation even when she isn't present. There were several situations where she would spit off emails or call before she had all the facts, accusing and pointing fingers. She, however, would not come back and apologize or admit that she leaped before having the facts, afterwards. It eventually got to the point where she was twisting facts and blowing molehills into mountains with untrue statements. She was pushing us to medicate our child when our pediatrician strongly discouraged medicating at that time. The teachers were too passive to set strict boundaries, and they seemed to cower to the owner and allow her to control and micromanage a classroom they were in charge of. The owner made accusatory statements that, when I would speak with other parents, didn't seem true at all. We are not saying that our child was perfect in any way, and he definitely needed some more guidance and stricter boundaries; however, the way things played out here was very disheartening. We even went as far as to have a behavior specialist come in to observe for an IBHS support person; which they requested. I attempted to have a discussion with the owner about feelings towards my child, which is what ultimately ended our time here. She went ballistic instead of being professional and reassuring. It was such a hit to her ego, and she couldn't take it or someone standing up to her false accusations. There was no professional adult conversation, just finger-pointing and blocking. Our son didn't have these types of behaviors in the school before or after this school. He is doing great now in a new school. The behavior consultant discussed what she saw when she observed, and a lot of it was boundary pushing and allowing him to get his way, instead of setting clear boundaries and consequences to teach him, it seemed to be all over the place. Lots of reminders with no consequences, allowing him to get what he wanted, which would reinforce the poor behavior, them being frustrated, and eventually just a target on his back. Again, not that these behaviors were acceptable, but they weren't what was being made out either after speaking to the behavior consultant and piecing things together on our own. I also went in to observe one day. No behaviors but saw him being kicked. When he kicked back, he got caught and in trouble. His new school said they also don't understand because they don't see the behaviors that this owner was saying he had. If you have a very calm, timid, robot-like child, this will be a great fit. However, if you have a rambunctious child with ADHD who goes against the grain at times and wants to be moving, this is 100% not the right fit. The day I observed, they were expected to sit for 25 min doing carpet time. That's a long time for a 4-year-old, let alone a 4-year-old boy who has ADHD. They do wonderful activities there, which is why my son loved it, but there was lots of sitting and expectations of standing still, straight lines, chair work, and not enough strict follow-through. Like I mentioned above, if you have a quiet, calm, timid child, this place is great. If you have a typical hyper, rowdy, strong-willed child, I would find a place better fit because StemSteps cannot and will not be a good fit for your child. I suggest reading the book Raising Lions for this school and some training in consistent follow through, rule setting, consequences and behavior management.

From the very begining my husband and I noticed that every staff member always said hello to my daughter and knew her by her first name. We had come from another daycare in the area and we were amazed by comparison to the compassion and detail that Kiddie Academy provides to our child to ensure her safety and progression of her development. Our daughter also has a milk allergy and we were concerned about accomodations that would be made to allow her to eat the food made at Kiddie Academy. The wonderful in house chef took the time to review all the ingedients that would contain milk and our daughter was able to eat 80% of the foods that were provided to her each week. They are also always willing to provide alternatives when available to allow her to eat meals that her classmates are having. The director Mona has always made it her first priority to care for the children in her facility and to make sure the children's needs are met. The assistant directors are always available as well with any questions and assistance that we have and are fast with responses to our questions. Kiddie Academy has been our second home for our daughter we have felt so comfotable leaving our daughter in their hands each day. Acedemically our daughter has amazed us with her progression in skills and ability to identify letters, shapes, animals, and recall curriculum from her day. I have observed that the children at Kiddie Academy are engaged in age appropriate fine motor and gross motor activities to keep their muscles developing and they are always presenting new and fun ways to challenge the children developmentally. My daughter loves going to school each day as she feels special and the staff at Kiddie Academy has always made my family feel welcome with any questions or concerns. We are very proud to say our daughter goes to Kiddie Academy of Wexford.

I love their teaching philosophy. This is an excellent alternative to most public and some private schools--the foundations of which at times appear to be crumbling. I highly recommend the Glen. The administration and teachers of Glen Montessori have demonstrated a shocking lack of professionalism and compassion, turning what should have been a hopeful transition into a nightmarish ordeal for two qualified students and their dedicated parents. Maria Montessori herself once said, "The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind." It is with a heavy heart that I must highlight how far Glen Montessori has strayed from this ideal. Two weeks before the school year was set to commence, this school denied contracts to two well-qualified students whose family had gone above and beyond in their commitment. Despite the expense and stress of traveling back and forth from out of state on multiple occasions for interviews and a tour, and receiving nothing but positive feedback from the school throughout the past year, our family was abruptly informed that the students would not be admitted. The circumstances surrounding this decision are nothing short of disgraceful. While it may be the right of any private school to reject prospective students, the school administration's refusal to provide a clear explanation or even return communications regarding their denial is both unprofessional and unethical. This review will have to serve as our closure. It is a deeply disappointing display of incompetence and insensitivity that has left the students with scant options for appropriate education in their new state, just as they are about to face significant transitions in environment and culture. In the words of Maria Montessori, "The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, 'The children are now working as if I did not exist.'" Instead of embodying this ideal of fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment, Glen Montessori has chosen to operate with a disconcerting lack of transparency and empathy. The frustration experienced by our family cannot be overstated. We trusted Glen Montessori to provide our children with an environment that values and nurtures their potential. Instead, we have been met with an administration that is seemingly indifferent to the impact of its actions. It is truly shameful and unexpected that a school purporting to uphold the values of the Montessori method would fall so egregiously short. I urge prospective parents to consider these grave missteps when evaluating their educational choices. The failure of Glen Montessori to honor its commitments and communicate effectively reveals a profound disregard for the very principles it claims to champion. We are happy for other families who may have had much better experiences than we were offered. God bless them and forgive them for what ensued but we are confident that this may have saved us from some unbeknownst tragedy that may have occurred to our children while under their "care."

The Goddard School of Wexford

Wow, completely unlike Anne below, who seems to have had her first experience around the same time…read moreI did in 2011/2012, Goddard is absolutely THE BEST school you can pay for in the area. Montessori is just that... Another Montessori school where the lack of classroom structure (example: In a preschool classroom, for example, a three-year-old may be washing clothes by hand while a four-year-old nearby is composing words and phrases with letters known as the movable alphabet, and a five-year-old is performing multiplication using a specially designed set of beads. Reference: http://www.montessori-namta.org/The-Prepared-Environment) enables children to feel that "they" can learn "how and when they want". Sure, they still learn, but that's NOT real life. At Goddard, the combination of structure, play, and care (my kids LOVE and HUG their teachers!) and an education that combines science, technology, engineering, art, and math is ultimately what has made my children thrive and excel far beyond their peers who do NOT attend Goddard. My children are of superior maturation and intelligence to their friends and cousins who attend Montessori, and, sure, some of that is the children, but I have all four of my children at Goddard and wish it went beyond kindergarten! It's worth the money, and despite the review below, Mark, Diane, and Tami are genuinely interested in ALL families and their children. We have recommended three families to Goddard and they all attend and are thrilled as well! Ps- Think about this.... why is there a wait list? Because it's THAT good! No Montessori in the area has a wait list!! Food for thought! :)

In less than 2 years' time, this school has gone through 5 different directors or assistant directors. Either corporate pushes these local administrators out (fires them), or the local administrators themselves choose to leave for a rival center (sometimes for the same pay, which is pretty telling). The policies have changed with each director. Some directors follow the corporate policies more loosely than others. This has created a problem of consistency for children, teachers, and parents. Many of the older, experienced teachers are no longer there. In fact, I can only think of 1 who has been there for more than 6 months. Last month (January 2015), 4 teachers or teacher assistants quit within a 3 week span. This causes me to wonder if employees are being treated well or compensated appropriately. To give an example, I have heard that one toddler classroom has been without a teacher for 2 months. They put a different assistant teacher in every day. A brand new person whom the kids don't know, and who doesn't know the kids. Then the next day it changes. I firmly believe that Doodlebugs is trying to hire someone, but they just can't get teachers who stay. Let me also say that every teacher has always been kind to my children, BUT, because turnover is outrageously high, the teachers or assistants are nearly always new, often inexperienced, no longer dynamic, and awfully young (18 or 19). At this point, Doodlebugs has exhausted its pool of qualified applicants and is now hiring anybody with clearances. On a positive note, the current director, Laura, is very good. If she stays, I feel that she will get the center back on track. But corporate must do their part to support Laura so that she has the tools she needs to build the center back up.
