Fortunately, varieties of crocuses welcomed us on this day announcing the arrival of Spring time (photo). Rose beds are ready for the new spring growth--they maintain them well all winter long. In fact, there were some plants with new leaves already out promising another season of beautiful roses. It's a must stop especially during sommer months when you are visiting Bamberg.

Slightly off the beaten track, it takes you about 10 minutes from the centre to reach this beautiful little park called the Heinrich Kirchner Skulpturengarten. It's perfectly hidden from anyone who doesn't know where the entrance is, turning this into one of the most peaceful and quiet spots in town. Created in memory of the Erlangen-born artist Heinrich Kirchner, you can find several of his sculptures throughout the garden, each one more interesting than the next. The chances that you will meet anyone in here are rather low, so grab a book, choose a park bench and enjoy the peace and quiet. As I mentioned, the entrance is rather tricky to find. You can enter either from left side of the Berg (walk up the Berg, turn right and then up the stairs on the left) or from the other end of the Berg (An den Kellern) - check the map first! It's a rather small park, and always crowded with students, but it's a nice place to walk through if you're strolling through town. Right next to the park is a huge playground with a water area, swings and a place to play table tennis. The best part is the flea market that takes place here every first Saturday of the month. It's Franconia's oldest flea market, and unlike many others, you will find less proper merchants and far more students and other people who simply want to sell their sometimes extremely odd and artsy goods.
