Despite the hip, chill vibe of the surroundings the hair stylist didn't listen to me after explaining what I wanted three times over the course of the cut. I've thought long and hard about whether it was my fault for not communicating properly but I've never experienced such an acerbic reaction from a stylist before. I wanted short back and sides with a trimmed beard. Instead I got trimmed back and sides with a short beard. I was so happy and polite when I arrived, I'm not sure why it all went wrong. If a hair stylist doesn't give you what you ask for I can't see why they should charge over $70 for men's cuts. Oh well. I'm going to find a place with stylists who listen before cutting away.

The salon was closed when I dropped in, though it was during trading times, but that's understandable because there's not much point in opening up before you've got appointments if it's the middle of a work day. I called the phone number provided and Esther answered immediately. She was friendly and accommodating, and we made an appointment for an hour later. She was just as friendly in person, and did an excellent job! After the trim and shape my hair had a lot more movement, and she showed me new techniques when blowing it out. I'll definitely be back, and will hopefully try more of her services as well! This one's definitely worth a go.

I highly recommend Glen to anyone needing support with sore muscles or just looking for an opportunity to relax and get pampered!

One downside is that there are many apprentice hairdressers working there, which means appointments can verge on being epic, you will always get water in your ears after a rinse (almost like going for a swim) and hair washes aren't necessarily all that gentle. It is not cheap... unless you love your cut and colour, it's a bit of a bank-breaker.

They give you the full service here: hair consultation, stress relieving massage, shampoo and condition, complementary drink, glossy magazines to peruse and sometimes a free facial. Staff are friendly and approachable, and I always feel like I am spending the day with friends, rather than getting just a cut. Hair stylists are identified by experience and performance, so you can choose a newly qualified stylist for a less expensive price, or a more expensive stylist to suit your budget. My stylist always gives me a haircut that is on trend, but matches my style and personality, so I always get a haircut that looks and feels unique but modern. They always send me a txt reminder when my next appointment is due, and if you show your rebooking card while purchasing any products in store, you get a 10% discount. Naturally a place like this gets super busy during peek times, so it's better to book appointments away from late night shopping times. It's also recommended to re-book your next appointment ahead of time to avoid the need for an urgent hair update.

I would quite honestly have a massage every single day if I could afford it (and didn't sound like…read morea complete tosser by admitting I got a massage every day.) So naturally, when a new massage centre opened up down the street from me, I was quick to get in. Forget Me Not Thai Massage is a huge space, taking up two shop fronts, and really quite stunning. The interior is very traditional, dark wood, gentle Thai music and shoes off as soon as you walk in. Forget Me Not offer a mix of traditional, relaxation or deep tissue massage for 30/45/60 mins. I went for a 45 minute relaxation massage (I'd had a hard week!) and was instead treated to 60 minutes - thanks! Upon entry I was asked whether I wanted a massage on a mat on the floor or on the table. I went with table. The massage itself was great. Very relaxing, soothing music and thorough. But my beef is this... I could hear everything happening around me. I heard a lady come in with her partner and could probably repeat the entire conversation back to you. I heard the bell ringing above the door every time someone walked in, and could hear the chit chat of the staff outside my room. Normally I wouldn't mind, but when I'm basically nude on a table, it's a bit disconcerting to hear people a metre away! I walked in and was in the massage room in a mere five minutes, though I did hear other people being turned away after - an appointment may be necessary. Strangely, I seem to live in a massage hub, with at least five massage therapists within the same block - what up Brunswick East? Why are we all so stressed? Anyhoo, Forget me Not is pretty good, very cheap and offers a great massage... It's just not as relaxing as you might need.
