Our ice maker stopped working in a Samsung refrigerator. I called Ice Age to check it out. They…read moretold me that the water was not getting to the ice maker and that it needed a new valve assembly that cost $512. The total came to $649.20. This is a two year old refrigerator so I decided to spend the money on it. The ice maker worked for about two weeks and then quit again. They came out and looked at it. This time they told me that the water was not getting to the ice maker assembly, but it was due to the water line heater. This was a $212 unit. With labor is was just under $300. First of all, it is very unlikely that these two similar problems occurred within a few weeks of each other. They most likely mis-diagnosed the problem the first time and now want to charge me again. I did a little research. I can buy the $512 valve assembly for about $260, which means that they paid around $200 for it. So $500 in labor. The heater assembly is about $80, not the $212 that they quoted. They made it clear that they were giving me a great discount. Stay away from these guys. They will rip you off!!!

I was told I needed a whole new unit by these other guys...Alban came out later that same day, looked at everything, pulled out a screwdriver and adjusted the gas flow to the furnace. Less than 1 hour and $200 later for the service call, my furnace was working again! He has fixed other issues from other AC guys and they are fixed right the first time. The tech couldn't come until after-hours, but I was told that if the problem turned out to be something that the previous tech should have caught there would be no charge, so we told them to send him anyway. We asked for a diagnostic visit--we wanted him to tell us what was wrong and how much it would cost to fix it--but the tech apparently decided on his own that he was here to FIX the unit. He figured out the problem in the first few minutes, pulled the blower motor out, typed for awhile and then asked me to approve the repair. I told him I couldn't do that unless it was under warranty--he said it wasn't, even though I'd thought it was--and he asked me if I wanted him to put the unit back together or just leave the motor out so we could keep the cost to the cost of a service call. I told him I couldn't really afford the service call itself, since I was going to have to pay my home owner's warranty company to send someone the next day, so I certainly couldn't pay any extra tonight, and he took the blower motor out to the back porch and left it. Can somebody please tell me: in what world is it okay for a tech to go on a diagnostic call and START A REPAIR WITHOUT PERMISSION, and then tell the homeowner that there will be an extra charge to put things back how they were when he arrived? All-Systems says they can send a tech to put the broken blower back in, but they're going to charge us for it. Gee, umm.. thanks? Oh, and bonus: the company our homeowner's warranty is sending out can't diagnosis the system until it's put back together, so we can either pay them twice or pay All-Systems more money for completing the job they weren't supposed to start. I called them and they sent out Charles, a really nice technician. Normally there would be a trip charge and/or labor for them to take a look, but they gave me courtesy pricing: FREE. Yes, All Systems can be more expensive than other options out there but you do get what you pay for, and in this case it's quality.

Paradise AIr answered the phone on the second ring. A friendly lady took my information and set me up for a 1 pm - 3 pm appointment window. About 12:45 pm the same day Paradise called and said Service Technician Ronnie was on his way. Ronnie arrived just before 1 pm. Ronnie greeted me professionally and quickly found that my A/C system was 6 pounds low on coolant. Ronnie serviced my A/C system and filled the coolant. Ronnie was done in an hour. Given that the call was made at 10 am Friday morning and my Air Conditioner / Heat Pump was performing well, and service was completed by 2 pm, I give Paradise Air FIVE STARS for this visit! We've been using Paradise Air for repairs on an existing smaller unit. Our large unit needed replacing. It quit working and we had Paradise Air come out and replace it. This company is wonderful. They took care of scheduling the installment in a timely manner. They came out at 7:45 a.m. and were finished at 9:45 a.m. Within 1-2 hours, our house was cool. He replaced it and got the system working; however he replaced the capacitor without giving me an estimate first, then charged me $379. $79 for the visit and 300 for the capacitor, which turns out to be a $20 part and it takes 10 minutes to replace. including diagnostic time, I believe he was at my house 30 minutes. This is very excessive and deceiving to install the part then give me the bill. I'm willing to pay a reasonable price but this is too much. Update: I called and voiced my concern. Bo, the tech who did the work, said that they use quality parts not parts made in China and which are better quality and more expensive. However, I noticed that the new part he installed was in fact made in China and is actually cheaper that $20. Again, very deceitful. I was willing to pay a reasonable price but Bo wasn't having it and came back out and took his part off refunded me the $300 for the less than $20 part and went home, which was fine.
