Like many busy doctor's offices, scheduling and front desk communication can sometimes be a bit confusing, but they have an incredible standout office manager, Shalika, who truly goes above and beyond to help. She's calm, attentive, and genuinely tries to make things easier. Nyla is also very kind and helpful. My mammogram at the Lake Mead location, which had been scheduled months in advance, was canceled at 5 pm the night before. Since I needed the results before my follow-up appointment with Dr. Nguyen at WHASN West Valley, I had to reschedule at the WHASN St. Rose Parkway location, which was far from my home. When I arrived at WHASN Essential, I was surprised by the unprofessional interactions with the front desk staff. I was asked personal health questions in the lobby where everyone nearby could hear. I could hear other patients' private medical information as well, including details about where previous biopsies had been performed. This raised serious concerns about patient privacy and HIPAA compliance. Many of these questions could also have been handled by reviewing my chart beforehand or at least moving the conversation to a private area. I mentioned my concerns to the mammogram technician and explained that the questions were being asked loudly enough for the entire lobby to hear. She did not acknowledge what I was saying and instead continued giving me instructions for my mammogram. She could have directed me to an office manager or someone else who could address the issue, rather than completely ignoring me. The final straw was when Dr. Nguyen's office canceled my follow-up appointment one week before it was scheduled because her hours are shortened. This was the same appointment I had gone out of my way to get the mammogram for at another location. If her hours were being reduced, why were existing appointments not honored? Patients should not have to rearrange their schedules and travel to a different office for an appointment that is later canceled. I understand that circumstances can change, but these experiences are very upsetting. I hope WHASN takes these concerns seriously and reviews its scheduling practices, staff professionalism, patient privacy procedures, and the way patients are treated.
