Miley

It's difficult to find a vet that cares for your animal just as much as you do, but here they are. I brought my 14yo baby, Miley, there to be seen for a check up. I fell in love with the care that was provided. From there on, this vet was the only one for me. Sadly, Miley passed away on Saturday, June 29th, but we were surrounded by the team at Indy Vet and it brought me great comfort. I will forever appreciate this team and highly recommend anyone looking for a professional vet to come here.

The team at Indy is FANTASTIC. I bring my pup who's 13 here and Dr Sara and team treat her well. My pup is also under the care of a specialist at Penn due to some underlying issues but INDY and Penn work well together. The pic is my cat, Moe. I brought Moe to be treated late in life but unfortunately he is no longer with us. I love this picture.

This is the best veterinarian practice. Everyone there is kind and thoughtful, you can just tell they LOVE animals. We see Dr. Eric, who treats our pup Jules. He is just fantastic. He takes his time to explain everything, answer every single question, and then emails us a summary afterwards. As new dog parents, this helps a lot! Thank you for the hard work Indy Vets!

I could not be happier with Indy Vet. Today was my first visit with my beagle for ear infection and Dr. Matkowski was wonderful he took the time to explain everything that was going on in addition to answering any questions I had. The office staff was also wonderful in ensuring a safe waiting room and also answering any questions about medications. Thank you so much Indy Vet!

I cannot say enough amazing things about Indy Vet! My dog was having constant bloody vomit and diarrhea. My regular vet (2nd Street Animal Hospital) told me they were too booked to see her and that I'd need to take her to Penn Vet or VSEC (which cost a fortune and can take a full day to get in anyway). I was pretty panicked and remembered I'd heard lots of great reviews about Indy Vet, so I gave them a try. They made time to see her right away, got her fixed right up, and turned a horrifying event into a great experience. Everyone there was so kind and accommodating to both me and Mama. Dr. Eric took the time to come out and explain what he thought was going on and her treatment. He let me ask question after question with such patience. It was such a different experience than 2nd Street, where communication is extremely poor and they're often condescending to pet owners. They didn't try to push anything extra that she didn't need, but welcomed me to call and follow up throughout the day. It was definitely one of the most positive experiences I've ever had. Needless to say they are our new vet now. I recommend Indy Vet 100%, they are above and beyond any expectations!!! I wish I'd switched to them sooner.

That was the simple prognosis and I knew that going in. It is not unusual in that circumstance to be offered multiple strategies to extend life starting with a full blood chemistry work up and on to IV's, multiple meds, etc. But Dr. Shafer was fantastic. We got right to the point that there really wasn't much we could do but help him be pain free. She coached me that cats can drag out the dying process and that, if he was lingering painfully, I should call her back and we'd discuss alternate plans. Fortunately, he passed peacefully about 36 hours later. I commend Dr. Shafer and her staff for excellent, honest care.

It was a brutal winter and I also had a cold, and maybe assumed we were in the same boat. But she encouraged me, against my own reluctance, to get an x-ray immediately. She helped get him emergency doses of a medication that likely saved his life during a really stressful snowstorm week in February where it was difficult to coordinate. She also pushed me to take him to a cardiologist, which I was also reluctant to do. But I'm glad I did. He was really at death's door 5 months ago, and now he's under a treatment plan that has kept him alive with decent quality of life. I'm super grateful to the Dr. Lee, and the staff generally. I almost forgot to leave this review for the treatment that happened in February, because when you're stressed out over a pet and the pet survives the last thing you think about it giving credit on yelp. Your mind is on your pet. That's something to consider when reading reviews. I also just took him in for a vet-tech appointment yesterday and the tech also was super helpful and reassuring. I would not recommend this vet if you are looking for reliability, accountability, or good customer service.

She is thorough, explains things, is patient with questions, and handles skittish cats well. She gets 5+++ stars. We had one experience with another vet which wasn't so positive, hence the 4 stars. She acted as if it was an imposition that our cats were scared about their visit. Our cats are rescues that we got at 8 months old. While they are affectionate and confident with us, they are more fearful than curious when encountering new people. You would think vets would understand this, but this vet (sorry, I didn't get her name) seemed more jumpy than the cats about administering their shots. She wouldn't even try to trim the nails on one of them. (Even I have finally figured out how to handle that kitty for that task!) I've seen some hellion cats, and believe me when I say ours aren't that bad! The front desk staff and those who answer the phones are wonderful. They are helpful and thorough, and if they say they will call you back by a certain day/time, they will, even if they don't have a final answer for you yet. The vet techs we have had there are likewise incredible, and clearly love being with the animals. I wish I could give 5 stars, but hard to overlook that one encounter.

We were taken directly into the treatment area, where I was able to stay right beside my fur baby. They checked her vital signs, made sure I knew where the restroom was, and even showed me the complimentary snacks and beverages. We didn't have to wait long before Dr. Russell came over, listened carefully as I explained why we were there, and thoroughly evaluated Stella. He quickly identified what was causing her pain and explained everything clearly. Stella received pain medication by injection, and we were sent home with additional medication to keep her comfortable. When it was time for Stella's injection, my sweet girl became a little grouchy. The team handled her with such patience and compassion, moving us into a private room so they could safely care for her away from the open treatment area. That thoughtful accommodation meant so much to me. We arrived at approximately 5:30 a.m. and were home within one to two hours. The cost was absolutely worth it to know my baby had been properly evaluated, treated, and relieved of her pain. I would definitely return, although I sincerely hope we never need another emergency visit! Thank you, Dr. Russell, Nurse Shannon, and everyone at VEG Northern Liberties ER. Pros: Telemedicine, prompt, kind, patient with questions, clean facilities, flexible with medicine pickup. Cons: High amount of patients, so it's difficult to get appointments quick. The best thing about Art Museum Vet Center is that they are happy and willing to provide virtual triage at no extra cost. I can reliably call them when I'm having issues and they will tell me to send pictures/videos for a vet tech to look at in order to assess whether or not I even need to come in. They are *always* prompt with these emails and calls. I always get an opinion within the same day, if not within a couple of hours. Being the kind of dog mom that is super attentive and quick to seek out advice anytime my fur baby's health strays from the norm, this kind of quick feedback has been invaluable. I also feel as though this is a sign they're not just trying to squeeze money out of you, not to mention it shows they are trying to manage the volume of patients they have by providing assistance this way. The toughest part about this vet is that they do have a lot of clients, which means it's hard to get an appointment quickly. The best you can do if your pup is sick is call them as soon as they open to see if they can fit you into any of the spots they had cancellations for that day. Otherwise the next availability they will have is probably at least a month out. I appreciate that anytime something is going on with my pup, they call to follow up. Sometimes I completely forget that this is something they're prone to doing, and it'll be a pleasant surprise to realize they're just calling to see how my little guy is doing. As far as treatment goes, I approve of their approach. Any time my guy has had stomach issues (which was often when he was a puppy), they would also prescribe probiotics to help get his gut health back to normal. I am not sure how standard this is, but in my eyes it proved that they take a holistic approach to health. I also trusted them with neutering my pup. Although it is a standard procedure I could have had done by cheaper clinics, I'm glad I took him to them. They provided me with a cone afterwards, as well as additional medication to help manage his energy levels while he was still healing. I remember after the procedure was done they were (as usual) very patient with me when it came to answering questions. I remember they were also willing to work with me when it came to the payment of that procedure. I was given the option to break the payment up over several months. If I was still living in Philly I would definitely still be going to them. They've definitely earned my trust.

I'm writing to express my deep disappointment with the care my cat, Wicca, and I received at your…read moreclinic. This experience was not only frustrating, it was frankly unacceptable for any facility that claims to care for animals and their well-being. I first called your clinic on 5/22/25, desperate to get my Sphynx cat seen due to some concerning facial spasms. I made it clear to your receptionist that I was searching for a compassionate, trustworthy veterinarian to form a long-term relationship with, for all three of my cats. I wasn't just looking for a quick appointment; I was looking for a partner in my cats' health for life. When your receptionist said you could squeeze Wicca in same-day and highly recommended Dr. Beiting based on my needs, I was beyond relieved. That relief didn't last long. Red flag #1: I walked in to find adorable cats roaming freely in the waiting room. While charming in theory, this setup is completely impractical and inconsiderate. Strange cats approaching a cat in a carrier? No thank you. My cat was visibly stressed, and most cats would be, especially sick or nervous ones, trapped in a carrier, being approached by unfamiliar animals. It's not just an emotional risk, it's a health risk, too. In what world is free-roaming animals a sound practice in a vet's office, where illnesses could easily spread? Red flag #2: Once we were in the exam room, the vet tech immediately tried to hold Wicca without any need or invitation. Let me repeat, I have a Sphynx cat, and yes, I get that people are fascinated by her. But fascination does not give you permission to violate her boundaries, especially when she's clearly growling and hissing at you. When I asked to hold her myself because she was obviously uncomfortable, the vet tech almost refused to give her back. Her response? "I'm not scared of her." Excuse me? This isn't about your fear, it's about respecting an animal who is clearly showing you she doesn't want to be touched. I had to physically take my cat back to avoid further distress. Then came the vet, Dr. Beiting, who admitted she didn't know what was going on. She speculated it might be focal seizures, but wasn't convinced. I'm not upset she didn't have an immediate answer, medicine is complicated, but here's where things really fell apart. She said we'd do bloodwork, monitor over the weekend, and touch base Tuesday. If Wicca was still having spasms, we'd try Gabapentin. Tuesday comes and... nothing. No call from the doctor. I leave a message. Eventually, I get a call back from the receptionist, who breezily tells me on my voicemail that Wicca's blood work looks fine except for the part where she has a heart condition, and I should "probably call a cardiologist." That's it. That's the call. No details. No explanation. Just a casual suggestion that my cat might have a serious heart problem. Frankly, I was left in tears. That's not just unprofessional, it's inhumane. A receptionist should never be the one to break news like that, and with such a flippant tone? I work in animal care. I would never let an unqualified person call a client with upsetting or unclear medical results. The doctor promised to speak to me personally on Tuesday. Instead, I had to call again, beg to speak with the doctor, only to be told she was "busy" and might not get back to me that day. Luckily, because I work with vets, I was able to get Gabapentin elsewhere and review the emailed blood results with people I trust. If I didn't work in the field? I would be freaking out. Wicca was still having spasms on Tuesday, and I had no guidance from the person I paid to provide it. The doctor didn't call me back until Thursday, two full days later. I couldn't answer during work, and her voicemail said if I didn't call back right away, she wouldn't get back to me until tomorrow. I called back and left a voicemail at 2:45 PM which was 15 minutes after she called me. Again, no response. Honestly? I wasn't surprised. This was now a pattern. And let's not forget, I had to ask four separate times just to get a receipt, rabies certificate, and doctor's notes. So let's tally this up: I paid nearly $400 for a "we don't know," a traumatic experience for my cat, a rabies vaccine, bloodwork, and days of stress and unanswered calls and voicemails. I had to do my own legwork just to understand what was wrong. I had to educate the doctor about the Sphynx breed. I had to be the one leading the appointment, not the other way around. There was no compassion, no proactive care, and no follow-through. This entire experience was infuriating and heartbreaking. I came in ready to start a lifelong relationship with a veterinary team I could trust. Instead, I left feeling disrespected, disregarded, and deeply disappointed. Sincerely, Wicca's Very Tired and Rightfully Annoyed Mom

He got me through some REALLY tough times over the past ten years, and honestly I'm not sure how I would have gotten through the pandemic without him. So knowing his time with me was coming to a close, I left it in his hands to tell me when it was time to go. And, unfortunately, that was the day he woke up and his eyes said simply, "Enough." The staff was attentive and kind from the jump. An examination revealed the options, but it was obvious that whatever was happening was quite serious - and I was given a breakdown of potential next steps. Of course with Sid's age, putting him down was also an option, and I already knew this is what we were going with. I did not receive any pressure to run any preliminary tests, procedures, or additional costs. I was simply told what the options were, and provided with an honest opinion of what the outcomes could be. And all options sucked. BUT it was obvious that the people helping me genuinely cared, and it made the heartbreak just a tiny bit easier. I had never had to do this before and I came in with Sid alone, so the vet guided me through what we were doing, what was next, and gave me ample time in between to say goodbye. Again, no real way to make these things less painful, but there was something in the attention and care I was receiving that made me feel like I wasn't going through it alone. The staff was going through it with me. I also received a beautiful card in the mail from them afterwards, hand-signed with a personal message from each - and this small gesture brought such warmth to my heart that I felt I had to share it.
