INDIGO - 97 parking spots left

    INDIGO

While briefly in Winnipeg, a city that was my home for seven years, I checked out whether there…read morewere any hockey games while I was there. The Manitoba Moose, the AHL farm team of the Winnipeg Jets, had a game against the Milwaukee Admirals. Before I was a Minnesota Wild season ticket holder, I was a Moose season ticket holder. I had a ten-pack of tickets. I supported this team when the city lost its NHL franchise and all we had were the Moose to call our beloved hockey team. I am going to go on a rant here. It will be brief. I recently got a ridiculous and poorly crafted message about missing "... a 10-7 NHL game in Minnesota because [I was] watching the Moose play in Manitoba instead." This comment rubbed me the wrong way. It also proved that this person didn't know how meaningful the Moose are to me and to Winnipeggers. It was so poorly worded because he didn't know all the facts and my history with both teams as a fan. Frankly, he should have kept his comment to himself rather than annoying me. I had seen a Wild game a couple of nights ago. I hadn't seen a Moose game in over a decade. Yes, I'd choose a Moose game. Why pit them against each other to determine which game would be better to attend? I needed to drive seven hours back to Winnipeg to catch a flight home. I had things planned. I was not about to take in this blowout game and drive seven hours to get into Winnipeg at 3 am and barely function to fly home a few hours later. You don't have context. You don't have full details. Don't make such a comment that does not make my day. End of rant. Let's get on with parking. I had bought my Moose ticket online. I was prompted whether I wanted to get a parking pass with ParkWhiz through Ticketmaster. Sure! I had never done it before and I needed parking. I got a cheap parking pass at this Indigo lot on Hargrave Avenue, just north of Portage Avenue, steps away from Canada Life Centre. The catch? Although the digital pass version had a QR code, I needed to print out my pass. I had to get a nice woman at the hotel's front desk where I was staying to print me my pass. I then drove over to this parking lot with it. I had no problem finding this parking lot. It is painted bright red. I remember that this lot used to be a building with medical services. It's a bit sad that it's gone, but parking is much needed downtown. There was a parking attendant near the machines that are typically self-serve ones. He was friendly. I showed him my parking pass with a huge QR code. He took his scanner and all was good. Did I really need to print this parking pass out? I still don't know. However, the instructions say to leave it facing up on your car's dashboard. You can park anywhere except in reserved spots. The man also said that when I leave, to press the help button on the machine. Someone will then open the gate for me. Cool! After the game is over, you have either two hours or 7 pm to leave the parking lot. I stayed briefly downtown to check out my old workplace before heading to my car. I felt safe having my car parked here. The same man was there. He recognized me as the woman with the parking pass. He pressed the help button for me. The gate opened. I wished him a great evening. He reciprocated. I left and headed to an eatery for some much needed grub. I would park here again. It's across the street from the Air Canada building where I used to work, Canada Life Centre for Moose and Jets games, in the heart of downtown Winnipeg. If you need parking while downtown, this lot is a good option. Parking is fare and frankly cheaper than I had anticipated. (74)

We went here on our first day. We had been trudging through the downtown trying to find good places to eat and chill, and when we finally found The Forks Market, it was a much needed solace from the both the summer heat and the quiet of downtown. We walked in and we were immediately amazed. This place has so much food variety, as expected from being a food market in Canada. I spied a pizza place, a Sri Lankan food spot, a taco store, and so much more. I could've spent my entire trip eating here as there were so many options. We tried the several spots: - From Habanero Sombrero, we tried three tacos: one shrimp, one fish, and one beef. They were all stellar. - We tried some Thai dumplings from an Asian spot and it was amazing. I've never had peanut flavoured sauce in dumplings before so it was a nice find! - We tried beverages from Fools and Horses. We enjoyed the drinks we got (I got a chai drink and a tea drink on multiple occasions). My boyfriend wasn't a fan of the matcha. The food here is all very affordable and there's a variety of savoury and sweet places if you wanted to get dessert after your meal. The upper floor mainly has shops (the lower floor has a few shops too, such as a candy store and a souvenir shop). The shops on the other hand are a little pricey for me but they do offer tons of goods that feel very Canadian/Winnipeg. There's a sitting place upstairs if you can't find a place to eat downstairs, or if you want to lounge around. I was overall very ecstatic to spend time in this market, so much so that I went again the following day. I would highly recommend this as a stop if you're ever in Winnipeg.
