Been wanting a copy of Hunchback of Notre Dame for awhile and went to see if they had any copies in stock (where I used to live, very hard to find book). The computer said they had seven in store. I looked in the usual places and then, I found a table of paperback classics. Not there. The woman running the registers calls someone for me to help me out. And boy! Does she help. She goes to where she thought it would be. Not there. She uses the computer so she can see what I had seen and takes me to a little table of hardback classics and there it was. It probably took 10-15 minutes to track down a copy but not once did she act like it was a waste of time. When I went to pay, the woman at register even asked if we were able to find the book. I've been to this location loads of times, and never had a bad experience, but yesterday's experience was just deserving of a review! read more

Chapters was like my second home growing up as I used to pop by after school to browse and buy books. I loved that people were encouraged to stay in the store and you could also have a drink at the Starbucks within then. It reminded me very much of Barnes and Noble in the old days. Through the years the store has changed and you can get more than books here. There are home decor and gadgets, babies and women accessories. I still come here once in a while but I find myself buying more home stuff here rather than books. In my bid to reduce my books collection at home, I have pretty much switch to ebooks or borrow books from the library. I still love the feel of holding a book in my hands so it has to be a very special book or something I really want to keep to make a hard copy purchase. At my last visit, I noticed the Starbucks in the store has closed. Very unfortunate. Before covid, you could also park outside in the outdoor parking lot and enter from the side door. Right now it is closed, so you can only enter from inside the mall. Oh and you can sign up and get for plum points on the app. You get birthday discount and rewards when you chalk up enough points. From Chapters to Indigo this bookstore just got better. Yes the infrastructure is a bit older now but the pieces you can find inside has evolved tremendously. This is not just your typical bookstore. Items such as women's accessories, infant clothing, home decor, stationary and other gift ideas can be found and purchased from this store. The store is equipped with kiosks for those tech savvy clients who prefer to use computer terminals to find items they're searching for. There are also those friendly staff roaming around the floor for those clients who require more help finding what they're looking for. I usually come in here to check the best sellers or Heather's pick. I come for coffee as well as there's coffee shop inside the store. But most of the time I come to take pictures of the lovely and colorful decor and stationary. It makes me feel happy looking at beautiful pieces found in here. I find that kids behave well inside a bookstore. I don't really like those little buggers ( j/k). But somehow when kids are in a bookstore they're much more quieter. If you happen to be in Metrotown Mall don't forget to take a peak inside Indigo. You'll love this store. read more

I love Chapters, yes they have books but they have much much more!! This location is only one level, but that's what I like about it, everything is in one level, no need to go up and down escalators. Stuff is always so helpful (sometimes a little too much it becomes annoying). This location has a Starbucks that's always busy. The bargain section is not too big, but still decent. Along with the great selection of books I love all the house stuff and baby gifts they sale here. I know Kindles and Kobos are slowly taking over, but I still have a love for books. I love how books smell and the feeling of turning a page. Chapters has many other goods for sales besides books such as magazines, home decor, children's toys, calendars and glassware. There's couches everywhere so you can take as long as you want to decide on whether or not you want to purchase that novel. Heck, you can even come back multiple times until you finish it. Chapters Metrotown it's a bookstore I really like a lot. While many other stores come and go chapters stayed. That might be explained by the welcoming environment it's a store that can be seen from far away like an oasis and in Metrotown is indeed one. Book paradise for every taste and ocasion. The prices depend but you can find them at any price from the cheap classics, deals and what's hot on literature. Bookstores and libraries are special spaces to me and when I first visited this one I just love it. One in there can have a nice smell of new books that to me it's so relaxing. Often gets crazy on hight season, like Christmas or new year chapters gets filled up to the rim. The staff does a great job in every occasion from helping out to guiding into the maze of books. The book prices sure could be cheaper but the deals they have sure makes up for that. read more

Usually walk into Chapters to grab starbucks but they have some pretty good stuff near their cashier area. I bought a Torpedo Screwdriver set to fix watches and sunglasses for $10 which I thought was a pretty good deal. It's pretty quiet in here, they've got tons of novelty items and even women's accessories. my gf likes to look at the different winter scarves/gloves they have on the front table too. I saw a giant black and silver globe that I wanted to get. Service is pretty slow at the cash desk but that's usually because there's only 1 or 2 people working. This Chapters location in Metrotown is huge. There's a few different entrances, so you don't have to go through the entire mall to enter the store. Unlike other Chapters locations, there is only one floor, which makes it easier to navigate the store and find what you're looking for. I also find that the store itself feels much more open and organized compared to other locations. It also seems to have a larger bargain books section than other locations. The Starbucks in this Chapters is great. It's actually quite large, with a bunch of tables to sit at. They also carry the same amount of tea's, coffee's and accessories that you'd expect at stand alone stores. If you're on the hunt for a quieter area in the mall, check out Chapters. read more

Lots of parking since it's in Metrotown. You can take the bus or skytrain there too so it's pretty convenient and accessible. I went to this branch of chapters an hour ago to pickup two ielts books for my friend. I also wanted to get a Vietnamese language book that the in store computer said was available. I couldnt find the book so I asked a staff member. She went above and beyond the call of duty, which is helped me check four different likely sections of the store for it. Alas, it was not available. Then when I was walking to the cashier to pay for my other books, I ran into the same lady that helped me a few minutes before. She said sorry and that she'll be thinking of that book a while since she rarely can't find something customers want. read more

What can I say about Chapters other than I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I remember before Chapters came to Canada and thinking what a great idea it would be to have a book store where people can read and have a coffee and then BAM!! Here come's Chapters to the rescue. Although it's not how it was when it first came here, you could actually sit in the store and read a book, I still love it. Now you may be wondering why I am only giving the store a 3, well that is because of it's location. I boycotted Metrotown for years and still only go when there is absolutely no way out of it. This day I was meeting a friend and she wanted to hit up Metrotown so here I was. The consolation prize was book store shopping. At the end of the day it is a great store and the staff are always friendly, at least when I have been here, which admittedly isn't often. read more

I recently saw that Indigo Chapters online had the Lechtrum1917 notebooks on sale for 31% off, so I figured I would pick them up in-store rather than order online. Nope. I'm not sure what's the largest Chapters in the city, but this one (in Metrotown) is a definite contender for such. There's a vast array of books available, and their arrays were surprisingly helpful for Christmas gifts. I actually picked up a bunch of gifts this Christmas from the tables without needing to really flip around, because the variety in the selection was quite good! The store has a huge amount of product, but the aisles are very easy to navigate and there is decent lighting so as to not try to discourage you from perusing your products. I'm not quite sure what I think about a bookstore selling chocolate, then plates, and now wine glasses (I'm almost waiting for the Chapters-brand frying pan and dishwasher detergent at this rate), but someone must be buying those. The staff isn't that helpful in being able to locate specialized material, and at this store they were remarkably unenthusiastic in summoning other coworkers to try and answer some of my questions. However, they were quite good at mentioning discounts as well as special gift cards that result from purchases. I like the brand overall, but I think I like the specialized stores more. If I come to this store again, I'd probably go to their Granville location. read more

Chapters is a book store in the Metrotown Mall. I love it because they have a huge store plus their kids section has some items for them to play with which kept my son happy for a good 45mins. The slowly going extinct bookstore is still a favorite of mines, even I still can't justify purchasing a $30.00 hard cover anymore. I was very pleasantly surprise to see my favorite Author Walter Mosley is physical view for Best Summer Reads. Usually his books are well hidden in inventory at the back of the store. We also picked up the third book in the series of a Graphic Novel soft cover of Amulet for $12.99. I also found out that you can view graphic novels on Kobo. WOW! This might be my next new tech buy, but I still weighing the pros and cons! Chapters has everything from comic books to yoga bags! Probably one of the bigger ones, esp. all on one floor, convenient amenities w/ Starbucks inside as well as the mall obviously. but really think their customer service is really helpful; they lead you to exactly what you need. a few months ago i bought a jellybean stuff push toy, & they even gift wrapped in a box, took their time too, no extra charge. I love Chapters. I go there to check out new releases, browse magazines, check out whimsical home decor and drink coffee (because there's always a Starbucks attached). This location is really no different from others. The only thing I can point out is that the Starbucks actually has seats so you can sit down and enjoy the book you just bought over coffee. I like to think of Chapters as a library, but with all the current titles (in stock) and the latest magazines (that doesn't have crud on them). It's a great place to spend a lazy Sunday. read more

Amazing store with extremely helpful staff! I have attended many events here and if I am one of the dedicated fans that shows up early enough, I get a good spot in line and I get close enough to the stage to hear the author. If I get there too late, then I still get my book signed and let the more dedicated fans get their deserved spots in the front :) Staff are very well-organized with author events and really know their books. Lines at Christmas time, though they look long, are actually VERY quick because of their ninja-like cashiers! Very happy with service and selection after every visit. I see a lot of reviews complaining about the difference between American and Canadian book prices. The US has a LOT more people and consumer, therefore they sell more books and bookstores can buy LARGER quantities of those books and get a deal from the publishers, allowing them to sell copies for cheaper. Not to mention, the majority of the books the complainers are looking for are publishing in the US originally and then the book's rights are bought in Canada. By the time the book's rights are purchased, the books is either reprinted here OR shipped here.. the book HAS to cost a bit more in order for the bookstore to make any money off it. Went here to pick up a couple of last minute items on Christmas eve. Understandably it was busy, and I expected that everyone would be busy. That being said I went in with A LOT of patience. Now, the only good thing about my visit was the line up - it looked crazy long but I was checked out in 5 minutes. Gift wrapping was a frustrating and horrific experience and finding helpful staff is difficult. After my purchase I had left and got to my car and remembered that they did complementary gift wrapping in the kids section. I thought that I would just call them instead of going back in store to confirm if this location actually did that. Called 5 times, each time was put on hold immediately after reaching some personnel and each time was never gotten back to. I then went all the way back to the store to ask in person. There was a staff member on the phone with someone at one of those self-search kiosks and she told me she'd be with me in a second. I'm standing there waiting and this other lady comes in front of me ready to fire some questions to the same staff. The staff lady then leaves to run around to store to help this person on the phone and after she's done she leaves and after 15 minutes, never came back. I would expect that she could've told someone else to help me and the other lady waiting. Frustrated I called the store INSIDE the store and surprisingly was able to reach someone faster than locating someone on ground. Indeed they had gift wrapping in the kids section so off I went. (This area was very difficult to spot for some reason, no idea why I didn't see it in the first place but it's tucked behind some shelves.) There were 2 girls there wrapping and they got through the previous 2 people fairly quick - 5 minutes maybe? Right as they were about to start mine one of the girls left for her break. I only had 3 items so I thought I would be out of there in 10 minutes or less. The girl left at the counter took a bloody 25 minutes to wrap 3 things. She spent about 20 of those chatting me up, talking about how she liked doing gift wrapping because its away from the madness and complaining about customers. She talked about how she could take her time because by the time customers reached her for wrapping they would've already got everything they needed and were not too much in a rush. And she liked talking to the customers and taking her time essentially. At one point she blabbed on about how this one time a lady asked her to provide her with some wrapping paper so she could redo her wrapping at home. I was appalled that she was complaining about customers in front of a customer - and to my irritation I understood why the customer wanted to redo the wrapping, because it was terrible. Absolutely waste of my time and her own effort because it was awful. Not enough tape to hold up the wrapping, uneven edges and it basically came apart in the plastic chapters bag. I'm slightly OCD so I was having a very difficult time watching her. Why she felt like I wanted to speak to her for 25 minutes and leave with less than desirable wrapped presents I don't know. But for those 25 minutes I developed a headache and I wanted nothing else but to redo her wrapping and get out of there. I think the worst thing you can do is assume - in her case she assumed all customers were completely done all their shopping and had no where else to be but to witness her tortoise pace gift wrapping and hear her complain about customers. Slow, not done well and an all around unpleasant experience. I would've understood her situation but she also filled me in that she had just gone on gift wrapping within the previous hour. Please, chapters, place only those who can wrap in the wrapping station. I very much appreciated the fast service in line at the cash but all the time saved was made up for in this girl's wrapping abilities and excessive talking. For those of you who have made it this far in my rant of a review - let them know that you're pressed for time, unless you've got a miracle wrapper who can do things good and fast (which was the girl who unfortunately left for her break and left me with the sore thumb) read more

This is one of the few Chapters bookstore which has only one floor meaning you don't have to waste time taking the escalator up or down. Believe it or not, the most popular section in Chapters is Starbucks. Most people who shop here know what they want to buy, so you'll hardly see people browsing for books. If you're not into ebooks, Chapters bookstore is a good place to shop for old fashioned paper books. A lot of the New York Times best sellers are discounted in price because the Canadian dollar is so strong now. Unfortunately, a lot of their other books still priced higher than what Americans are paying for the same books. read more

great bookstore in a great mall but... their ability to hold events where the attendees get an equal chance to view/hear an author is horrible abd unprepared. The Oatmeal book signing saw atleast 70% of the attendees unable to hear or see mathew as we were snaked all the way around and behind the shelves, far away from the stage. you'd think they would of provided a better speaker or turn it up so atleast everyone can hear, but nooooooo. it was dead quiet and noisy at the same time, that no one other than the dead front and center folks got to see & listen. other than getting my book signed, chapters made no attempt to improve the conditions so that the attendees could enjoy themselves more. read more

Theres really nothing wrong with Chapters, but it just lacks the feel of it being a bookstore. Perhaps it is due to being too commercialized, it is sad because it really took away all the fun a bookstore should have. The pricing is quite high, I would buy from here unless I have no other choice. There are many more bookstores with better selection, friendlier staffs. Still every time i pass the store i would still go inside to the discount section. Sometimes you can find some great bargains in there. read more

Love/hate relationship with Chapters mainly 'cause I have been spoiled by the library. I used to buy a lot of music mags until the writing went down the drain. This is a rant on the books rather than Chapters. The selection is better than what I have seen across the border at big stores. The cooking section is unbelievable and always up to date with titles in the cooking area. Weirdly the past 4 months I have gone to Chapters for trinkets but not books. Customer service has always been hit and miss. read more

Finished up my Christmas shopping in there. The staffs were cheerful, helpful, and friendly, which is really appreciated as I was one amongst the thousands last minute shoppers hurrying along to get my shopping finish. I have compared the Indigo gifts to toys r us and target. I noticed the pricing was a bit cheaper than toys r us but a few dollars more expensive than Target. However, I still went with Indigo due to their staff helpfulness and the free service of gift wrapping, which more than makes up for the few dollar save should I have gone to Target. Side note: it cost me an additional $5 per gift to have it wrapped in the gift wrapping kiosk in front of winners. Fantastic gift wrapping done by both indigo and kiosk. read more
