Very cute little bookshop in the Freshfields shopping center on Johns Island. They have a good selection of new and recently printed books that are well organized and neatly shelved. If you've managed to land here on your vacation at the resort and forgot to bring reading material, Indigo has it for you. Indigo Books is a locally-owned bookstore in Freshfields and one of the only independent bookstores in the area. They have a diverse selection of adult, YA, and children's books of all varieties. In addition, Indigo Books keeps a good selection of greeting cards, gift wrap, games, and newspapers. They have a section of local fiction and nonfiction books. There are usually a good number of books on their sale shelf as well. The staff members are knowledgable and helpful, and they have a frequent buyer rewards program. I wish there was a larger section to read in this bookstore, but they do have a few chairs and a lamp in one area. read more

Very lovely little bookstore with lots of options to pick from! The gentleman that checked us out was so friendly and helpful as well. Indigo Books at Freshfields Village on Johns Island is one of my favorite book stores in the area and a great place to find a book for the beach. I really like their selection and the different books that they have available. The staff here is very helpful and I have been happy with all of the purchases that I have made from here. read more

So disappointed. Walked in with my kids to find some fun books. Sadly nobody working here could be bothered to help and when I asked about a book they just said they don't have it, not offering other suggestions. We love going to book stores and have been coming here but won't be back. We love supporting local book stores but when they choose to sit around rather than offer help and be welcoming, there is a problem. Seems like this is inline with other reviews. read more

Quaint little bookshop in the heart of Freshfields Village. Equipped with a little bit for everyone, Indigo has something for all ages. During Covid, they are limiting the number of shoppers in the store to 8 at a time. Kids are asked to apply hand sanitizer when they come in, and masks are required at all times. With the limited space they do not have a huge variety of reading. Much of what is there are the top rated books. For a vacationer looking for something to read, they will be able to provide what the shopper needs. For someone looking for books that are less mainstream, they are unlikely to have the title you are seeking. Overall staff was helpful but did not seem ready to welcome shopper or jump help customers. Only interaction I had was as I came through door with my daughter they immediately asked me to put sanitizer on her hands before she touched anything... this was a tad off putting. I understand the logic, but the execution was less than graceful. Not a place to go if you are looking for an welcoming eclectic hip bookstore. This is a small straightforward shop. Upside, they have some cool journals and local writing if you are looking for a gift for someone. read more

The only reason I'm not giving it a higher rating is because the owners/employees are quite uppity/unwelcoming. Otherwise, cool place. read more

Great little book store where the offerings are diverse with up-to-date fiction and non-fiction. If they don't have it, it can be ordered. The personnel are readers who suggest their favorites. Go there to buy gifts for friends and don't miss there great greeting card selection. read more

I have been a customer of indigo books for 25 years. The absolute joy of searching the aisles with you has been a highlight of my life on Kiawah. I came in yesterday, Saturday July 10, at noon eager to purchase a few great books. I noticed a flyer right behind the register for a john le carre book and asked if it was the new book. The sales  woman behind the register reluctantly came around and said there was one copy. The other sales woman did not move her feet off the desk to assist me or other customers. I thought it was the NEW book by le Carre and asked the woman. A strange conversation ensued with the sales woman asking me who john le carre is and what type of author he is. I said he is  an author writing about the Cold War in the 60s and she said she wouldn't know as she wasn't born then. Do we not know Shakespeare? Jane Austen ? The flyer was at the register and this person had no idea or curiosity at all. Astonishing! She proceeded to tell me what Amazon indicates and it can be ordered there. So many things wrong with this encounter. But most important was that I could order on Amazon and not deal with incompetent rude sales folks. read more

I visited Indigo Books recently and was quite disappointed in the staff working that day. My daughter was going to buy a box of note cards and handed them to my 8 year old granddaughter to look at the pictures on the front of the cards. My daughter moved to another part of the store , looking for books to purchase. Being 8 she put the cards on the floor and started looking at them. A sales person came over and started scolding her , my daughter returned to the scene and put the cards back in the box, The sales person jerked the cards out of my daughters hand saying unpaid for merchandise should not be touched and on floor, My daughter explained she had told the child to look at the cards as she was planning to buy them. The lady then took the cards to a back room and started whispering to another employee. I have supported l have supported this local business for years but no more! I thought this was a really rude way to be treated. I also saw a man going through a box of cards , one by one, he did not purchase them and returned the box to the shelf, Books can be purchased cheaper on line, that is where I will shop in the future! read more

#fivestarfriday #buylocal Well here is a bookstore most folks don't even know exist! One of the few remaining independent bookstores in the state. Located at Freshfields Village, Kiawah Island. this place offers a wide selection fiction, mysteries and classics. Biographies, history and politics, sports, and science and nature titles. Southern authors and local interest books, (love my southern authors!) children's and young adult books, travel and cooking titles.They also have greeting cards, games and other none book stuff. all in this tiny store! The store is in the back area and is so much fun to visit. Sure its a long drive out to Freshfields but you can buy some good local reads, then get an ice tea next door and sit outside and enjoy! Sorry folks no restroom review of the place, my body didnt need to review it! On a side note one of the owners Linda is a former librarian and teacher! Hope to see you reading! read more

Beach readers and serious Literaties will not be disappointed with this small bookshop located in Freshfields village outside of Kiawah and Seabrook Island. The booksellers are knowledgeable and friendly, and the store has a nice selection of local authors, and regional interest books. I walked away from the store with a small purchase, but a giant list of books for my To Read list. Thanks Indigo! read more
