Pros- One of the most diverse festivals in Milwaukee, good food vendors, good music lineups, good artisan vendors Cons- Overly Crowded, sprawling, a drunk fest with music (as an aside?), a surcharge on credit cards at Festival drink tents, people getting overserved Dryhootch Veterans house had a great R&B Veterans band, good food- Nomad staff were working hard and had a great party out back, as well. The main music stages have good local acts in a variety of styles, such as Negative Positive, Browns Crew, GuhGuhGoldDuhDuh (haha) throughout the day. I got some great tacos, and Elotes Mexican Street Corn. There is a lot of good food vendors here. Brady Street Festival is really great for the bars on Brady- as they set up shop w/slushies, liquor drinks, Mai Tais and the like, and the bars are bustling. But aye, there's the rub- our crowd of music dancers and watchers of De La Buena got physically plowed by people who by 7pm were already...plowed! Of course Brady Street Festival is 100% Brady Street, glad to have you back.

On and on and on! Specifically - Octopus salad from Pietro's Pizza. Its a must have. It's a cold salad in oil/vinegar with celery, red onion and pepperoncini peppers. Really really good. The culture. Go to the church tent and see various statues from the Italian churches around MKE. While in there, look at hundreds of Italian family photos from days of old Milwaukee. Music. Frank Sinatra covers, opera, Italian Idol!... The fireworks. Bartolottas pulls out all the stops for the Festa Fireworks. All three nights of the Fest, word has it that Saturday always is the biggest show. If you love fireworks - these cant be missed! All in all, Festa represents the Italian in Milwaukee. Great food, great people - you're bound to have a good time.

Come on at an Italian fest and no Ice!!! This is nothing like it used to be 10 years ago. I will not be back. My Milwaukee neighborhood of Riverwest is alive more than usual for a full 24 hours of parties and camaraderie. Anywhere you walk the streets are shut down or at least barricaded off. A buzz is in the air from an event so killer, only a Milwaukee neighborhood nestled on the West side of the river could dare pull it off. All things Riverwest are in full swing, all hands on deck for a truly good time. Most streets are a mayhem of elated pandemonium to show the world or at least Wisconsin how much it means for a neighborhood to come together. Some sleep and others don't. Either way by the time the 24 is up any involved are feeling it. Long live the RW24!

What an amazingly electric celebration!…read more Large quantities of German beer? Check. German cuisine offerings? Check. German music and dancing? Check, check, check! Came for the first time not knowing what to expect. Tickets are $10 at the gate, which gets you into the celebration! Inside the gate you'll find various German eats (from pretzels and brats, to full blown roasted pig dinners) for sale. There's German beer a-plenty to choose from (get the Oktoberfest!). The best deal on German beer comes if you bring your own stein. Don't have a beer stein? They also happen to sell beautifully creative and varied German beer steins. We went with friends who had reserved tables near the stage. It's loud but fun as heck. We even did a little German aerobics. Don't question it. Just do it. There's singing, there's dancing, food, beer, and fun. What's not to love? Get to it!

I hadn't been to this Oktoberfest, but it seemed like a fun thing to do with family…read more My spouse and I paid $10 to reserve a picnic table in the pole barn because it seemed necessary according to the web site. We got there around 6pm on a Friday and felt lucky to park close. When we got up to the gates, we were surprised to find our reservation didn't cover admission, so we paid another $5 each to enter. We found our table but noted that there were plenty of empty and free options outside the pole barn structure and immediately regretted the reservation. The interior of the structure is cavernous, and in inclement weather it might be worthwhile. In good weather it was extremely loud with a torqued up sound system of dubious quality - everything was too loud, but also distorted. There was no ability to talk with table mates. Views of the dancers were limited by the pure length of the barn. There is a beer stall accessible from inside, but everything else requires a stroll. There were old school carnival games on offer, including the ethically dubious goldfish game. We didn't play anything. We went the length of the grounds to the food stalls where we split up. The pork dinner line was quick and the meals were generous. Both people who ordered it liked the pork and sauerkraut, but they were divided on the German potato salad (likely due to varying family styles in their pasts). Sausage eaters got food pretty quickly. Alas, the veggie sausage meal took forever to receive. And that was - meh. The curry ketchup was weak. The fries were just fine. I'm not sure why a veggie wurst doesn't rate a bun , but I would have liked one and one less sausage. Non-bier drinks were on offer, but in inconvenient separate stands. My drink was weak and expensive. I ordered a Jaeger shot to give it a try - it had been decades. I still hated it. I needn't have bothered with that - roaming shot sellers were everywhere, loud, intrusive, and irritating. All in all, I didn't love my Oktoberfest experience, but I'm glad I tried it. Now I know I needn't go back - I wasn't missing anything.

That's how the can make a profit and support the event (makes sense). Drinks are about $6 per cup. This is my first "Jazz in the Park" and I'll definitely come better prepared next time. Besides my chair, I'll bring a book (for the wait) and snacks! There weren't really many options this time. Happy "Jazz in the Park"! Fun fact: "Jazz in the Park" has its own mascot! Five stars all the way for yet another addition to the Milwaukee festival arena. The Walkers Point…read more5th Street Festival is literally an extravaganza of phenomenal proportions. Taking place on the economic mecca known as Fifth Street this event is seeing its second season in production. It is also experiencing the revitalization of an area that was once a desolate section of Milwaukee with next to not much in it as many neighborhoods once were. The whole street is shut down and blocked off to traffic, for just this one special day. The North stage and South stage server as the pillars between everything that lie within. From Nomad, Hamburger Mary's, Mob Craft Beer and Fuel Café, to name a few, along with Milwauke staples like Too Much Rock for One Hand or the Var Gallery, this is another stellar representation of all things Milwaukee. For this particular day one couldn't ask for much more than what it was, crisp, sunny and cool. The street was alive and there was plenty of people soaking up the first official day of fall. Walkers Fifth Street Festival is morphing into holding its own down in the slightly hipster-ish and oh so trendy scene of Walker's Point. Keep this going! It's a good thing indeed!
