Pat & Gary's - Here are the pizza ovens!

The directories will tell you this address is Burt's Market, but the sign outside reads "Pat &…read moreGary's II Party Store." This is a convenience store, which also contains "Kel's Kitchen & Deli." This place puts out some awesome grinders! You'd never know it just driving by -- the place looks like just a simple party store -- but we had a hot tip from another business (the quilt shop up the road) that this place was good for lunch. Wearing dirt bike attire, you would be out of place at a sit-down restaurant, but this place has a pizza kitchen along with a party store, and there is a bench around the corner in the shade (near the hydroponics store, man!) where you can set up shop and have lunch. Back to the grinders... The bread is delish. It crackles! You have your choice of fillings. They also make pizza at this place, so a grinder is basically a pizza sandwich. These grinder things were so huge, each of us could barely eat ours, but they were soooo good, we exerted a special effort. We were happy to be overstuffed, but since we were riding our dirt bikes that day, we really should have split one grinder between the two of us. On successive visits, we have ordered just a HALF sandwich and split that. It has been plenty. Stopping for lunch here is the highlight of this particular dirt bike loop that we like to frequent in the Indian River area. Definitely go there if you love warm bread and melty, savory sandwich fillings. You won't be disappointed! There is a 75 cent charge for using a credit card.

My friends and I ended up at Topinabee Market and Deli on our way back to Grand Rapids from…read moreDrummond Island in search of gas and restrooms. I walked in to the market and looked around for a restroom - didn't see one anywhere. I noticed that the space was pretty small and a bit cramped and there was a door propped open that led to what looked like a storage space - luckily I didn't end up in there accidentally. Finally eventually someone working there said that the restrooms were across the street. Got it! Headed across the street to what looked like a state park type free-standing restroom facility. It was fairly clean which was nice! However there was no soap in the dispenser and I couldn't get the automatic faucet to give up any water. Well, I guess that's what hand sanitizer is for, right? Yikes. I did a quick glance around at the liquor options behind the counter, because I wanted to see if I could pick up a local whisky we had tried while on Drummond Island. I didn't see any and the guy behind the counter didn't ask if I had any questions or if I was looking for anything in particular so that was a bit awkward. They only had your typical big name bottles, nothing at all that looked local. Not a big deal but I also didn't feel super welcomed there. There was a nice little walking path and grassy area for my friends' dogs to roam, as well as a really nice view of Mullett Lake! We saw a person hanging out there with their dog just enjoying the views. It made for a pleasant outdoor experience even if the indoor experience wasn't 5 stars. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to get to this spot again, as it was pretty far off the highway.

Went there on a trip passing thru....looks great from the street but inside you will find more than 70% of items on shelves have no pricing shown either on packaging nor on shelving edges like any legit grocery... especially key items like bread...not one price found anywhere. And major staples like a dozen eggs you will be hit with a $7 price. WOW! and a gallon of whole milk is over $5 . We bought a reduced piece of pork.... which was about the only reasonably item and a box of no name pancake mix that was over $2.50 only to find out this Sunday morning that the box was outdated 12-20-2022 11 days expired/out of date. Not to be outdone, the staff seemed odd....very odd....the kid on register looked a bit freakish and was not very cheerful as we repeatedly passed on items that were unmarked on price and also way way over priced compared to ANY OTHER store. in summary....this store is now taboo and forboetten. We will never cross their threshhold again. You been warned!

Cmon people is not rocket science, treat customers with respect and you will do more business. Owners will make more money and you will get more for working there. If not, find a new job. This place is the reason people shop online. I would rather have no customer service rather than bad customer service. Take a stand and don't shop here, go to Kens in Indian river.
