Have stayed here about 4 times over the past few years visiting our children at summer camp. The owners, Janet and Doug, are wonderfully friendly and charming folks who I have really enjoyed getting to know. Their home is a lovely old farm house with a great deal of charm; lots of antiques, some low ceilings, creaky floors, antique locks on the doors, etc. The rooms are small, but comfortable. You'll find a few cob webs and a little dust, but this is a trifle. Janet makes a cooked-to-order breakfast often asking what you'd like the night before. She is an excellent cook. The best part of a visit to the Inn is the idyllic backyard (see photo) which is immaculately kept and is stunningly beautiful. It is quite relaxing and serene. Sit and listen to to the quiet. Once you sit down and take in the view, you do not want to move. There is also a screened-in porch for those wishing to avoid the sun and flying annoyances. The property also has access to a nearby pond which is a short walk via a path through the woods across the street. Canoeing and rowing is possible, or simply sit and take in the water view and others enjoying the lake. The Meadow Farm Bed and Breakfast is a lovely oasis.

But every morning they fed you a HUGE home made breakfast...each breakfast was better than the day prior! Many items were really unique and very tasty....I am a big coffee fan and they serve french press. We stayed in the canopy room and enjoyed every inch of the historic house and furniture. The property is relaxing and fun especially visiting the two horses on the property. Make sure you take a short walk through the woods o find the lake with a wonderful view. Lake Shore Farm Inn. Upon arrival, there is a grammatically…read morechallenged sign on the desk with a phone number explaining that you need to make a phone call to check in and that only one person works there. Well, nothing is more evident than that. We called and we checked in for our 2-night stay. We were shown to our room and never saw the guy again. The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. The view of the pond was nice. The room was tiny, the TV was tiny, the refrigerator was good with a freezer that actually worked, and the bathroom was tiny. There is a tiny table and chairs set, the size of a child's play set. The vending machine in the lobby was "Out of Order." No longer is there a working restaurant on the premises. As others have written, you practically had to step into the bathtub to close and open the bathroom door. The bathroom was clean. Use caution, the seat moves when you least expect it. There were no tissues in the room. There is a K-Cup coffee maker but the coffee supplies were not replaced for our second day. I suppose this was because there is no housekeeping if staying two or more days. The walls are paper thin. We could hear our neighbor's TVs clearly, as well as their "adult alone time." Despite putting our sign out on the door requesting housekeeping, nothing was done. We had one set of towels for two days. We opened the dresser and found old stale snacks had been left in it by previous occupants. Check out was another phone call. It sounded as if we woke him. It was 10:45. We did get a "Have a good day" but nothing as far as "Thank you for staying with us" "Please come again" or even "How was your stay?" It was almost like we were bothering him to check out. We just put the key on the desk and left. Two days and we saw the guy once. I guess the old saying, "You get what you pay for" holds true here. Never again.

But, the kind staff explained that they have 3rd floor for those with allergies and a few rooms sana pets. But, they use Tide Laundry detergent and sprays and have carpet so it could be ok or not depending on when the room was last sprayed and your allergies. If you need quiet room to sleep, do Not choose a room with any view of parking lot, trash bin or a gas station as you will hear it all and get little sleep!

Showers here in need of rehab. All bathrooms and kitchens need to be updated every 10-15 years to avoid mold. Avoid this hotel if allergies. Avoid 15 year olhotels if allergies. We went to front desk and a very unhelpful and unsympathetic person told us that since no one was registered to that room she told staff to remove the belongings that were there and put things into two large garbage bags! She points to the side of her where all our stuff was sitting in two garbage bags. I have NEVER ever had anything remotely like this happen before. I mean, right down to our toothbrushes! An apology and explanation of what happened would have gone a long way, but nope, not happening. The next morning at checkout, the manager did apologize and comped us one night. I will never stay in another Hampton Inn again.

When they say the best breakfast in Gloucester, it's not an exaggeration! The couple that owns the Inn/Cafe are very hospitable and welcoming people. I've been visiting for the past 15+ years and every stay and meal has always been exceptional. Additionally, the staff they hire and employ is equally committed. It is truly a five-star operation. We were recently up in the area visiting Gloucester and Rockport. As always, one of those mornings meant we had to stop at Atlantis Oceanfront Cafe! It is a MUST. I almost hate letting this gem/secret out. It is the best place for breakfast with the very best view. It is post-card perfect. Your window table overlooks the rocks+water and you can visually see and hear the waves crashing against the rocks. It doesn't get much more picturesque or scenic than that! While the menu has changed a bit since my last visit, the quality has not. The breakfast portions are very generous and everything is of the highest quality. Our favorite is the eggs Benedict. Those perfectly poached eggs resting on top of those bakery-quality English muffins. The tender Canadian bacon. The perfect amount of creamy, perfectly seasoned hollandaise sauce. The side of tender and perfectly seasoned breakfast potatoes. It doesn't get any better than that in my book! Another favorite of mine is their GIANT Fresh Blueberry Pancakes. They remind me greatly of every childhood trip to the Atlantis and Gloucester. I've always told my family if I had to have one last breakfast, let's hope Atlantis Cafe is in season! I am not joking either! Service is always top priority. Friendly and expeditious. The kitchen is open to the dining room and their culinary takes true pride in every plate they put out. If you're looking for the best breakfast with the best view in Gloucester, Atlantis Oceanfront is the place. I did notice the secret has gotten out as of late! We did have a short 15-minute wait this last visit. Parking can also be challenging given the lot size and guest/staff vehicles parked for the Inn. The patience is worth the reward! They pulled some tables and chairs together to fit us all in a row. The setting and ambiance is very diner like with the address of the great ocean view. The menu was only one page but had all the essentials for a great breakfast. The waitress was quick off the mark to grab our drink orders. The coffee nice a hot, good cup of joe. 5/5 Fish cakes and eggs - I wanted to try something unique and they had this spectacular dish on menu. The fish cakes contained fresh chunks of fish and was seasoned just right. It wasn't too salty so went well with the spinach. The home fries were good and eggs over easy were done perfectly. The soft egg yolk broke and oozed just fine over the fish cakes. Definitely will come back again for breakfast when in the area.

The Lake Inn isn't a five star hotel, but it gets five stars from me for clean, comfortable accomodations with views that can't be topped and friendly proprietors.

The only couple of complaints is we wish we knew that the season was coming down to the end and a lot of things were closing up for the season . There wasn't a lot of things that were open towards the end of October . We had to travel pretty far to actually get really good food or either cook inside which wasn't bad either. Overall the complex was really nice & relaxing and there homemade cookies are really good as well.

Pros: - very comfy bed…read more- cruelty free toiletries available in the shower and bathroom, various herbal / fresh citrus scents that were not too strong - very friendly front desk staff that accommodated our needs around check out - we were able to keep luggage with them for many hours after check out and extend our parking time for no fee. The woman who checked us in was very friendly and gave us a tour of the common areas - entrances are locked to the public and secured with a password for extra safety - our room was big - I was pleasantly surprised to see that they offer Nespresso coffees with lots of fix ins available (even dairy free milk in the fridges!), grab and go snacks like Himalayan Gold popcorn and flavored almond mixes, and fresh made more substantial snacks like a chia seed pudding with coconut flakes and pineapple that was so good, I had it twice! Also available at any time in the fridges were Apple streussel yogurt parfaits and hard boiled eggs. Chocolate chip cookies are baked throughout the day. - nicely decorated lounge area on first floor and deck patio space - you are able to leave items in a designated shared refrigerator space in the kitchenette on the first floor, a clever solution to no fridges in the rooms (at least not in mine). The thought of a communal, unmentioned fridge with strangers did give me pause though, but it's nice they offer it. Room for improvement: - I understand I came in a heat wave and summer is not prime season in Salem, but the room was so warm. The air conditioning would not go below 67° setting, but the real room temp was always much higher according to the thermostat (this morning it was 76!) I was sweating and had a hard time sleeping. They gave us a box fan when we asked if the AC could go any lower...I wasn't even sure it was on....and that helped a little but still wasn't enough. Please let people turn down the temp so they can sleep without waking up sweaty! The AC units also made a decently loud bubbling noise - this seems to be in a part of town near where an unhoused group of people hangs out. To walk to the off site parking lot, which was not far away at all thankfully, you have to walk through a big park full of many unhoused people, some begging or shouting. It made me feel a bit unsafe and I wasn't thrilled to leave my car in an area of town like that. Head's up. On our last day here, there was also a seemingly unhoused woman hanging out on the front steps of the hotel's (beautiful!) lawn for many hours. At one point when we walked by, she was starting to get aggressive and shout at people walking by. - the bar in the lounge area, prominently featured on their website, is non functional as they do not have a liquor license, which would have been a nice place to enjoy a cocktail - the tvs have lots of streaming apps advertised on the TV main screen, but none are logged in to the hotel's account. I guess that's standard in some cases, but it felt frustrating to not be able to watch a lot of what was shown to us. - not the hotel's fault, just a product of the location (which was otherwise very convenient and centrally located!), but there were loud cars with booming stereos driving by at all hours of the night on a weekday that occasionally woke me up. - the lot they let you park in temporarily while you unload luggage, while a nice gesture and made moving bags much easier, is very tight and took quite a few maneuvers to be able to get out of. - there's really only one heavy duty lock on the door, but overall the closing mechanism felt very lightweight and I didn't have a ton of confidence in it. We were only given one key for two people staying in one room. Overall, the location and service were nice, but the temp issue was pretty hard to get past since it made me feel so stifled. The snacks came in handy more than once, but for the price, I'd look around at other locations before automatically coming back here, I imagine you could find something cheaper that isn't on the fringes of a sketchy neighborhood. It is right next to Hauswitch, which was one of my favorite shops in all of the many, many options in town, so that's a plus, but they really need a better AC system for summer guests. Stayed here the other night when our power went out because of a transformer. My expectations for…read moreHGI are pretty high, and this location didn't fail us. The room was nice, the lobby was nice. My girlfriend had a breakfast she liked (she told me it was an 8.5). We able to ice the coolers with the food we were trying to save from the power loss. The A/C would have provided arctic levels if we choose to go there...but there were to things I did not love: The first one was the bedding being pretty light, it kept me from getting a decent night sleep when I was exhausted. Would it kill them to put an extra blanket in the closet? If that was it, I would probably be a little bummed but what really upset me was the REALLY LOW water pressure in the shower!!! On the basis of this, I would stay somewhere else in the future. I get it, it's good to conserve...but the rate the water came out I just had to spend an extra 6-10 minutes in there. I hope this was an issue with the room and not stingy shower heads...but I don't think so.
