I agree yelpers. I love this wine shop. Great staff and assortment! = ) Wine from france, spain, portugal, argentina..Mmmmm $10+

So I've been two In Fine Spirits twice in the past few weeks, one experience was somewhat lackluster while the other was quite good. They have a great selection of gins so I've been working my way through the menu trying different ones each time I visit. Now, as for the food, they have smaller tapas-like plates...here's a rundown of the ones I've tried: tartiflette - absolutely delicious and rich for a cold winter night when we got it. Dip some bread in that puppy and you've got a great compliment to a smaller dish you may be having crispy ricotta gnocchi - holy cow, another delicious one! This was just some really great gnocchi and the sauce had some fantastic pork flavor cowboy sandwich - tried a bite of it and it was pretty good, although apparently not as good as expected that night lamb flatbread - the first time I got it, it was not very warm and a bit overcooked. The second time my friend got it, it was definitely done better but still seemed a little off...can't quite put my finger on why it's not as good as I expect it would be chocolate mousse torte - had this on my first visit which was quite lackluster compared to the usual I was told. On my second visit I noticed other people with it and it was much better...maybe it was still too cold the first time around because the texture was off and it was chunky. So, it's a good place and I'll probably find myself there again, hoping I hit one of the better nights read more

I lied. I've been back and we kind of like this place now, maybe because the new owners actually acknowledge your presence. What a concept!

This is one of my favorite shops in Chicago! Not only does this shop have a great selection when I'm looking for something new/unique, the staff is so knowledgeable and friendly! I was worried about feeling dumb when I didn't know much about wine and wanted to pick up a nice gift (but not too expensive) but the employee was great and I never felt judged. I've been back a few times when I'm in Andersonville and I always leave with a new gem that fits my budget. Plus the free tastings are so much fun! read more

Great place, wonderful, casual atmosphere, extensive wine list. The owners are great and I've enjoyed my experience every time. The last time I was in was with a larger group and our server didn't flinch. She was very attentive and knowledgeable about the wine list. I highly recommend this place for a drink or two. I love that it's not too stuffy and I hear that they have wireless in case you need to hit the bottle and your laptop at the same time. ;) read more

Thank you IFS! Multiple compliments were given from the chefs at Schwa when they saw the bottles you graciously selected for me. I had honestly planned to spend double, but you found 3 very crisp and affordable wines that paired very well with our dinner. read more

It's hard to find a more knowledgeable staff anywhere. The gentleman who helped us yesterday described in detail 15 different bottles of wine (at least!). He would have kept going if we hadn't made our selections. Once we had 5 bottles picked out, he reminded us we were one bottle away from a discount, so of course we had to pick a sixth! Their selection is excellent with a wide range of prices (yes, they do have bottles for as low as $9.99). They also have a small beer selection. There are plenty of places to buy wine in and around Andersonville, but if you want something different or a really special bottle, you must go to In Fine Spirits. Wine tasting don't hurt either. Try the Ransom Pinot Noir from Willamette, it's perfection. read more

What a nice place to find during the rain at Midsommar Fest. I had sangria made with Humm Liqueur. Interesting spicy flavors that packed quite a punch. I can't wait to go back. read more

Between staff knowledge, the budget table and the basement beer cellar In Fine Spirits is a fantastic value. They also offer a 5-10% discount for taking home a half-case or case of wine/beer/rye whiskey, which is great to take advantage of. read more

If I could just take away a bucket of the honey-sweetened housemade ricotta from this place, I would, and then eat it all in one day. Best ricotta I've ever had, and though I don't get to go back to Chicago very often, I definitely crave this all the time. As for the rest of the small bites, love that dishes are prepared with house-grown produce, and especially enjoyed the fig preserve that came with our cheese and charcuterie (which is always a nice deal). Top it all off with a chill, rustic vibe about the candlelit space that's been money whenever I've brought dates here. Win! read more

This is what a small wine shop is supposed to be like. Want to spend under $10 on a bottle of red? Sure, no problem, no attitude. They also have things you can't find very easily elsewhere--why buy Coppola at the Jewel when you can go here & get something more unique & tasty for the same price? They don't mark up their products outrageously. They have great tastings & promos. For example, their wine club is easy to sign up for, free & automatically gives you discounts as you buy more. Check it out... read more

What a happy addition to Clark Street! Have shopped several times already, and am pleased with selection and price range. Several purchases went to equally excited gift recipients. Owners and staff are friendly and knowledgeable about wine, not pushy in the least. I too like Andersonville Wines on Foster and Clark, but often feel claustrophobic in their tiny space - plus it has more of a liquor store feel, many wines at floor level, and not enough room to bend over and browse. Like the reviewer below, easily found myself pondering how to move six bottles what is normally a very short few blocks... If you are walking, bring your Lil red wagon, or some other form of transport! UPDATE: In Fine Spirits now carries handy 6-bottle caddys for something like $2 - a one-time purchase good for multiple trips. Great idea! read more

We had such a wonderful time here Friday night. We arrived around 7:30 and were seated outside, there were a few tables still open. The back patio is just lovely. Parties of two do get "crushed" in a bit together next to the other diners, but no big deal. I'm more of a cocktail girl when dining out, but did take a peek at the wine list, interesting variety. Nice creative cocktail list. Food was solid. We split a bunch of small plates. The cheese/meat platter was fantastic, served w/warm bread. The flat bread was a bit smaller than I was expecting, but tasty. We will definitely come back. You can dress in shorts or a casual dress and fit in just fine. HIghly recommend it! read more

Great wines and craft beers! The restaurant/pub is great as well and has decent specials. Went there one night for a signature cocktail and was blown away by it. read more

Great place to buy wine and whiskey. They also have a nice beer selection. I enjoy small stores like this. I feel more comfortable buying things I've never tried from a place where the staff knows so much and the selection is obviously chosen with care. They also have a some nice bitters and ginger beer. I feel like the selection here is really affordable. I came here today looking for a new sauvignon blanc in the 15-20 dollar range and had one picked out in about five minutes. I would highly recommend this store to anyone. read more

I have been to In Fine Spirits twice now. Both experiences have been great! The drinks, the service, and whole experience is awesome. I sat at the bar last night with two friends. The bartender, Ben gave great service, carefully preparing each drink, and keeping conversation with us. I couldn't wait to get home and give 5 stars to this place on yelp--they are definitely earned! :) read more

Depending on who is at the helm, IFS can be a grand experience or a poor one. Frankly, the owner himself has never been the friendliest but some of the employees have been outstanding over the years but sadly some of them are gone. Still, it's nice to have a decent spirit, wine, beer shop that has a good mix of high and low price points. The cheap tables usually have wines for around 10-12 bucks but they seem spottier than average of late. Watch for some of the special event tastings and check out the wine club. read more

I love having this shop in my neighborhood! Whether you need a winner to bring to a dinner party, a special occasion bottle, or just a simple, tasty wine to go with Wednesday night dinner, this place gets it done. Obviously, they're not going to have the sprawling selection of Sam's or Binny's but at the same time, you know that all of the wines at IFS is there because it's good. There's no schlock to cull through. If you're a wine geek and want to talk shop, they'll be happy to oblige. And, if you just want something 'yummy' that goes with _____, they can hook you up with that too. Free tastings on Saturdays, the under $12 table, and they even keep some bottles chilled if you need to drink it right away...this place has it all. Can you tell I'm a fan? :) read more

Small, cozy place. Small collection, lots of local or unique spirits, it's a great place to pick up a unique gift, & sure to please. That being said, I have seen several of their items a bit cheaper elsewhere. Help really varies, sometimes lots, sometimes I've been ignored. If I want something in particular, I go elsewhere, if I'm in hurry, I go here. read more

The staff is great at helping you pick the right wine whether it's a $10.00 bottle or a $50.00 bottle. It's a great local business to support! read more

A great neighborhood shop with an informative, delightful staff. Their displays are thoughtfully organized for the right balance of selection, information, and space for specialty tastings or just browsing around. I remember walking by and seeing a sign in the window stating "coming soon"... a wine store. Yum, I love wine and I love that is will be in my neighborhood. As soon as it opened I went in to check it out. Very nice staff, very nice selection, oh and wines from $8.00 a bottle to $150.00 or more - SOLD! This was years ago, and since then the wine store has expanded and even opened a bar next door. Even though I don't live in the neighborhood anymore I still come by now and then to buy some wine for myself or for friends. When I did live right around the corner from In Fine Spirits, it was dangerous - I would often come in to pick up a bottle or two for dinner more than once a week! Now they even carry spirits (like Lillet, grappa, sake, vodka, gin). They also support local business like Koval Distillery, Northshore Gin and several others. Oh and did I mention they have an excellent selection of craft beers? The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Offering suggestions here and there and also giving out tastings on the weekends.. I signed up to get newsletters via email and I recommend it because they often have good specials or events advertised through their newsletters! Oh and you should stop by and order a drink next door! They have a great selection of wines, beers and old time fancy martinis- Vespers, Moscow Mules, and Delicious Manhattans to name a few. Cheers! read more

So glad I purchased the Groupon for this! The staff has extraordinary advice and I received excellent service. Sitting on the patio on a gorgeous evening made it the perfect experience. I will certainly go back for more fine spirits and wonderful cheese! read more

This place has a great selection of wine, as well as beer and other spirits. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and there's a lot to be had from under 15 dollars. read more

I consider myself reasonably knowledgeable about wine. I can navigate a big store and come out with what I want and be pretty happy. But the wines and staff at In Fine Spirits have selected some amazing and inexpensive wines. I have been there a half dozen times now and always come out with something surprising and very, very good. This place is a gem. I promise to never again buy wine at the grocery store....I will wak the additional block or so to get better wine and fabulous service! read more

I'm in love with this place! We started going there when we lived on the north side (2 years ago), but moved to the south side last summer and we STILL drive all the way up there to get our wine and have a nice date at their lounge next door. We are entry-level wine appreciators, so we LOVE the $12 and under tables for each red and white wine. They rotate the wines they carry, so we come in to the tables, pick out the ones we haven't tried yet (always 12 bottles so we get the 10% discount), and have never been disappointed. Even better, they have little cards that describe what each of the wines on these tables taste like, so we know what we're getting. If we have a question about the wine, the employees are really knowledgable and can steer us in the right direction without judging our limited wine knowledge! The store is really cute and makes coming in to shop for wine really fun. We took a series of 5 wine classes last spring that were phenomenal. We came in knowing nothing, and came out knowing what we like and being able to explain it so that we can pretty much always pick out wine that we enjoy. The classes were taught by Shane and Matt, who were so knowledgable and personable and made the experience really fun (although it's hard to imagine how drinking all kinds of different wines would not be fun!) read more

Carefully selected variety of wines, most of them in an affordable range. I've not picked up a truly bad bottle here yet, and the staff is extremely helpful when looking for a suggestion for something new. The specialty liquors are also a great treat, and I found one of the best bourbon's I've ever had here (albeit not a cheap one, of course!) read more

Food was good, service was horrific! I've used Yelp often and it has helped me to make great experiences. But, this is my first review, and after such horrific experience, I felt compelled to share. This review is more on the ineptitude of one server on this night. I've heard many good things about this place, but OMG, they really need to re-evaluate this server. Waiting 30 minutes for a glass of wine at a wine establishment is a really bad sign. I would have gone to a 1 star, but the food wasn't that bad and the support staff were great. The waiter? Read on. Saturday night at 8pm, our party of 4 was told the wait would be about 30 min. We were finally seated at 9:30-ish at a table in the back terrace. It was beautiful night, so we got over being annoyed and ordered some drinks... We soon realized that the wait wasn't because there was demand, it was because the service was so bad! Waited 30 minutes more for a glass of wine, asked for napkins 3 times, another 30 minutes and after 2 of our 5 dishes were served, the napkins arrived. Food was good, we started with a cheese plate, serving seemed a bit small, only came with one small piece of bread (be aware, they charge for extra bread!). Followed up with beet salad. Beets were a bit bland and the goat cheese serving was a sliver of a piece almost an after-thought. Mussels--YUM! Pulled Pork sandwich--i'm personally not a pulled pork fan, but it was good. Then we waited, and waited,... and waited. He forgot our last dish, the Tarteflette. After realizing he had forgotten, he came to the table and asked if we still wanted it or should he cancel. We took this opportunity to cancel and ask for the check. I'm really disappointed, and should have said something during our meal, but we all just hoped that it would improve. Alas, we walked out of there quite disappointed, with imprints of woven metal from the patio chairs on my bottom. read more

I love In Fine Spirits. The staff is extremely friendly and also incredibly knowledgeable about their Spirits. Good mixology, good wine list, good beer list. The food is also exceptionally prepared and delicious. We had the stuffed dates, Gnocchi, Cowboy Burger and some seasoned olives. Be prepared for higher prices and smaller plates however. Inside is intimate without feeling cramped, but the outdoor patio on a day with nice weather is ideal. read more

5 stars for service, friendliness, effort to find non-industrial wines, location. 3 stars for wine selection. Really understocked (especially given their size) and don't even carry wines (or tiny selection, like one bottle) from some of the world's most important wine regions (e.g., Bordeaux, Piemonte, Burgandy). And you can't get standards, like Campari or Aperol, even though they carry other great boutique apertifs and amari. Many of the wines are well selected and unique (a major plus), but several times I've popped in to find a bottle to go with a particular meal (like a nice $15 Italian red to go with pizza or something like that) and they will have nothing that fits the bill. But everyone who works here is really nice and friendly. So I do go back, just not if I'm in a pinch for something. It's unfortunate because they have the potential to be a really great wine store. read more

I see a lot of the Yelp reviews are positive and I would to add to the trend. About a year ago my wife held a fund raiser in their upstairs room for an organization she works for there. It was a tasting of appetizers with paired wine samples. Everything was delicious and everyone had a good time, and she raised a few hundred bucks with fairly minimal effort. Last weekend, we held our wedding and reception in the same room. Their chef came up with some wonderful ideas that fit our theme (think New England meets India, our respective backgrounds). They, of course, paired wines with the courses and didn't blink an eye when we told them that we wanted something different for one of the wines. We were really made to feel like they enjoyed putting it together for us. They listened to us and worked with us to come up with something unique. Their entire staff is fantastic. In all fairness, there were a couple of very minor things dropped, but its hardly worth mentioning. I would recommend In Fine Spirits to anyone who wanted to put together a small to medium sized party/wedding/whathaveyou with a bit of relaxed elegance. Their patio ain't bad either. read more

I can't believe that I haven't come here before. I love a place that's classy, but I am totally comfortable in a t shirt and jeans. The cocktails are all unique and creative. They use craft type alcohols which are superb and each hand selected for a specific drink. No Grey Goose here. I had an old fashioned which was great, and another drink that had tequila infused with hibiscus and vanilla and egg whites, very interesting and quite tasty. I also love the stormy that my friend ordered, luckily for me he didn't like that one and I ended up drinking half of it Score! They also have an extensive wine selection and several craft brewed beers. They offered an absinthe fountain that looked really interesting too. I also love that they have bottled water service at no charge! The service too was fantastic, they are quite knowledgeable and attentive but not overbearing. The manager came by to welcome us when we first arrived. I will definitely be coming back here soon. read more

In Fine Spirits has been under new ownership since July. If you haven't been to In Fine Spirits in a while, I think you are in for a pleasant surprise. The store maintained an excellent mix of wines from around the world at reasonable prices. I'm not a wine expert but Jarran (the new owner) is consistently helpful and offers excellent recommendations. In Fine Spirits is a great part of the neighborhood and I'm glad it has new owners. read more

I really really enjoyed walking into this place! My fiancé and I went in last weekend just to browse while we waited for a call from a local restaurant for our table, and we were greeted warmly by the shop attendant. He was the only one working at the time it appeared possibly because it was very early in the day and this is a small intimate shop. Often I've encountered when walking into small wine shops the shop owners or attendants always seem to be uptight wine snobs, but this was most definitely not the case here. The guy offered us wine tasting and asked us what kind of flavors we liked and began making recommendations based on what we told him. We had intended on only window shopping but ended up buying a bottle because the guys was so helpful, relatable, and just nice. The prices were very good on all of their selections, and they had a great variety. I will be back to this place in the very near future! read more

I bought two Groupons and the store owner wouldn't redeem them for me, nor did he want to work on fixing the problem. I used to shop there, but no more....no thanks! read more

This really deserves 3.5 stars I think because they have good food and drinks, but it's not served very well. Maybe part of the problem was that we came here for drinks AND dinner, not just drinks. They have plenty of great libations- great wines, beer and specialty cocktails, but their small plates don't really appeal as a full meal. Maybe that's 'cause I was hungry! Don't get me wrong, I loved what I got (gnocchi), but I think the small plates should be a little less pricey so you can order more of them. The food comes out as it's prepared because of their small kitchen, so our table of 6 kept getting one or two plates here or there. Eventually everyone got their food except for one of us (not me-thank god). We mentioned it to the waitress and she realized it was completely forgotten about. I guess it was good that she confessed to it since a lot of places would try to cover it up. So, we had to wait about 15 more minutes for that dish, and everyone else's food and drinks were long gone by then. If I come back here, it will definitely be with a drink-only intention. If I decide to order food it would just be for a "snack," I will plan on eating a real meal either before or after! read more

My review is more on the Andersonville Wine Walk they held a couple of weekends ago than the actual restaurant/bar. I went to this with a couple of friends and its such a great concept!! You check in at In Fine Spirits and you get your wine glass and walking book. You choose a route and you begin your wine tasting journey down Clark Street. There were some really great wines and some not really great wines as well as some really great presenters and some not so great. I think our only complaint as a group was it was so white wine heavy! One of my friends hates white wines and by the end, she couldn't sample anything because either the Red Wines were completely gone or they only had white wine at the venue. I would suggest in the future instead of 3 wines at each venue, maybe having 4 so you can do 2 of each? Just a suggestion! I definitely had a good time and wouldn't mind doing it again next year! read more

Good selection and consistent tastings for the neighborhood. They also carry a great selection of interesting liquors (some local). The only drawback is service. I am not a wine connoisseur, and need help. Let's just say some of the staff are definitely more seasoned than others when it comes to educating and assisting with selection. read more

I stopped in the other night for bottle of gin to take to a party. I already had the fancy weird tonic water that I like and a couple of suggestive looking cucumbers to slice for a refreshing cocktail on a sort of warm day. They did not have in stock the kind of gin that I wanted....a bummer, for sure, but not the end of the world. The cranky fellow in there proceeded to (maybe instruct...I felt like I was getting a lecture) why the bottle that I was purchasing was so much better than the bottle that I wanted to purchase and was less expensive, to boot. Fine, fine...my only thought, though, as I drank the bottle of North Shore no. 6 was that I didn't like the way that it tasted.....but the 'less sophisticated' Hendricks gin that I wanted would have been much better. Case in point, people like what they like and 'education' of customers has to be done carefully. I can't even imagine what it's like to buy a bottle of red wine from the guy! read more

One of these days I want to open my own business...given my interests it will either be food or liquor. These guys are everything I would expect a store of my own to be...and then some. What I appreciate is I get the sense that every item in their store was hand chosen and has a story behind it. Very few of their products are available at Jewel...instead they are all small batch produced and precious. My first visit was a couple years ago...knowing nothing about wine but wanting to make a special meal for my wife, I discussed witht he owner what I was looking for. He pulled out the perfect wine with a price point under $20. Unfortunately I moved from the hood and only came back this weekend. I walked in and found a whole wall dedicated to beer and spirits. I've recently gotten invovled in small craft brewed beer...their selection is spot on. Their liquors all seem very unique. And they had a tequilla tasting that knocked my socks off. My only complaint is it appears that the price point has gone up...though I wouldn't say it doesn't match the neighborhood. I will definately be back soon to check out the tasting room. I'm excited about another visit. UPDATE: I visited the tasting room...holy moses!!!!!! So many drinks on the menu and a huge selection of wine. The servers are extremely knowledgable. So I decide to try an old classic - a manhatten...man, that had to be by far the best manhatten I've ever had. To top it off, they serve free still OR SPARKLING water with you drinks...SPARKLING water in the US!?!?!?! Nice touch!!!! read more
