Their website is really helpful and detailed. It tells you what to wear, what to expect, a step by step guide to what will happen, etc. I brought a ton of snacks, but I didn't eat any of them. It was still nice to have them though in case I had gotten hungry. When I arrived, i went to register. The receptionist was extremely friendly and answered all my questions. She told me that the first load is getting ready and I'm waiting for the second load, so I took a seat outside and watched everyone around me. The people there seemed like a super tight knit group. There were really cute dogs too :) After the first load jumped and landed, my coach, Glenn, came over to get me in my jumpsuit and harness. We were a bit late, so he gave me a 1min crash course on what's going to happen and he got on the plane. We were really cramped in the plane, but it was fine! We got to watch the ground get farther and farther away and we ended up way above the clouds (14000 feet). I put my goggled on, we got to the door, my coach reminded me of what I would have to do and we jumped! After about 5sec, he tapped my shoulder and I spread me arms. It was incredible! I completely understand why people get addicted to this! Tip: remember to breathe! I really had to focus to exhale, but then the inhale came naturally. When we got to cloud level, we opened the parachute, took the goggles off and slowly went down. My coach pointed out different sights and he got me to help him fly the parachute. The landing went well, my coach talked me through the whole process and before I knew it, it was over! I got my certificate of awesomeness and I was on my way! This is the cheapest place in the area and they offer to price match if you find a cheaper place! 10/10 would recommend this to anyone, old or young (18+). When I was free falling, it wasn't scary at all. It was simply exhilarating.

We ended up having a great time...squatting down in the small doorway of the plane when you're about to jump is quite a terrifying moment, but my instructor Serge made me feel confident that we would make it back down to Earth. The freefall was incredible... almost a minute of flying towards the ground...difficult experience to explain but I loved every second of it. After the parachute deployed, floating down towards the ground made me a bit dizzy/motion sick but it was well worth it. I'm so glad I did it. They give you a cute certificate of awesomeness when you finish. We went from arriving on site to landing on the ground in less than an hour and a half, so we didn't need to eat any of the snacks we packed... too nervous to, anyway! But they had a water cooler on site, which was appreciated. They also have a vending machine, if you're desperate and didn't bring anything to munch on. They offer video packages for $90 or $120 extra. I think I would do it again someday. Definitely glad I went through with it, and I would recommend this place in a second. It's about a 3 hours drive from Toronto (without traffic), so if were to go again, I would probably opt to spend a night in Gananoque and explore the lovely scenery so I wouldn't have to do all that driving in one day.

I knew I was going to be in Kingston for the weekend so I decided to check out the local climbing…read moregym. I was a little bit worried about how to find the place. The photos on Google Maps of the building I think must have been for another location. This is just located in the plaza next to the Dollarama. The entrance is next to the giant mural on the outside of the building across. It is very noticeable. If you haven't been here before, you have to fill out a waiver to use the facilities. You can do it before you first check in with the desk because they'll ask you to do it anyways. I was climbing solo so I was informed the desk I would be using the auto belays. After taking care of the waiver and payment ($23 and change for admission), a staff member walked me around the facility and did a quick orientation. Even if you aren't bouldering, you have to do a quick fall test with them. I also had to do a quick auto belay test for harnessing in and a fall. The Boiler Room has it all - a speed route, top rope, lead climbing, bouldering, and auto belays. The only problem is that it's only a tiny bit of everything that isn't bouldering. The top rope area was extremely small and squishy. It was right against the wall of the building and next to the changing area. I want to say it was around 6-7 feet between the wall of the building and the climbing area. Speaking of, the changing rooms are individual stalls like a fitting room in a store. They each have a small chair and a mirror in there. There are washroom stalls that are individual use and for all genders. They have some lockers at the back. They're the cubby hole sized ones and you need to bring your own lock. This is also a squishy area. There aren't a lot of auto belays. They use dry erase tags to label the difficulty of the routes. The big problem with this is that a lot of the levels were rubbed off so if you are a beginner, you might not have any idea of how hard a problem is. In terms of the difficulty, the routes here don't have a lot of options for how you solve them. It honestly seemed like a tall person set these. There were some holds where you'd either have to jump for them if you weren't long enough. The one other thing about the auto belays is that for some reason they swung a lot. Not sure if it was an issue with the mounting. If bouldering is your thing this would be a good gym for it. Other than that I really wouldn't recommend it for a repeat visit.

For the space limitations, I think BR makes good use of what's available to them. The route setting for the boulder problems range from easy to very hard and keep you engaged no matter what grade you climb. In my opinion the setting is thoughtful and creative. However, I would imagine that if you're a frequent visitor who climbs harder grades then you would get bored. Granted, I'm not sure how often the routes get changed. The grading is based on colours and not V grades and there's a variety of walls from vertical, slab, to roof/overhang. There's a small shop at the front desk that sells harnesses, shoes, guidebooks etc. What I will say about the roped climbing is that the walls appear rather short so not sure how much you could do if you wanted to lead climb. I've also been told by friends that there are a lot of rules around lead climbing at the facility. I think bouldering is your best bet here. Free parking is available at the lot outside.
