Some of the teachers that work here are friends and acquaintances I've met in church. Offering a junior primary school curriculum till Grade 7, they cover a holistic and cohesive educational programme which includes English, Maths, Foreign Languages, Technology, Studies of Society and Environment, Physical Education and Science. Being a private school, there is a strong sense of community spirit here and parents play an active role in helping out the school where required. In 2006, the Paradise Parent Group raised funds via a fundraising activity to help build and upgrade new playground facilities. Mr. Lee Avery is the Paradise school principal. The school is structured differently from all public and private schools, it is like a bridge between school and university. You are given a lot more freedom, but the academic level is still extremely high. How school works is you have two 2-hour classes for each subject. Your hours vary depending what subjects you do, but the day starts at 8am and finishes at 5pm. You refer to the teachers by their first name, which enables you to be on a more equal level with them, it is less like a dictatorship. They are very helpful and often in their office able to help you with any questions or problems. All the teachers say, if you do the work they ask, you will do well. This is very true, the lessons and homework they give is exactly what you need to do well in every subject. There are no extra curricular subjects available at Eynesbury. You can't play sport, however, there are so many clubs around Adelaide that if you do want to play a sport it is easy to do so. I loved the location of Eynesbury. It is just off Victoria Square and they now have a new campus off Gouger Street. You can sit in the Square on breaks and you are right near the markets. Think of the food you can get for lunch, no more over-priced un-tasty cafeteria food. The city also makes it very convenient to catch public transport to and from school.

I found the level of education and support provided by the teaching staff excellent. It was a highly supportive and nurturing environment, particularly for academically strong students. The expectations and standards are high for students. The freedom of dress, calling teachers by their first name and flexibility afforded by free periods was an excellent preperation for university. I do, however think this style is more effective for final year students and those independantly motivated. I am glad I didn't go to Eynesbury in year 10 & 11, as I believe my rebellious streak would have flourished a little more freely than in the traditional school system. I also enjoyed PE in my younger schooling and it would have been detrimental to my health and wellbeing to opt out of it at an earlier age. As Sam said, the subjects offered were all core academic subjects and the majority of SACE subjects offered were PES.

The main drawback of course is the fees hike - as Adeleine pointed out the costs are rising which excludes some of the students who were lucky enough to go here in earlier years. If your grades are very competitive you might be lucky enough to get a scholarship to cover some of your fees. USC has a focus on independent learning. You are expected to be in charge of your own education - prioritising what is important to you and committing yourself without needing to be punished like you are still a small child. For some students this doesn't help their grades - without the tight structure of a regular school some people can't get motivated. I found the attitudes at USC liberating - rather than being patronised by condescending elderly teachers I found it was a stimulating environment where I was treated with respect. To get into the school you have to take a short simple 'aptitude test' and sit an interview. The facilities have vastly improved since I was in attendance, however they were pretty darn ok when I was there too. Over the two years I studied a variety of things: Physics, Chemistry, Maths Studies, English Studies, Visual Art, Politics and Drama. This school is well suited to both students who are focused on the humanities and students focussed on the maths and sciences. The teachers on both sides of the spectrum are much better than most of the teachers I've had at any other school. They offer a high level of support outside of lectures and tutes - giving feedback on drafts and helping you navigate the SACE system.

USC basically saved my education. It's a lot different to regular schooling - you call teachers by their first names, class hours are similar to that of university, and you don't wear a uniform. Basically, they prep you for uni. Study is largely based on self discipline and initiative. Mind you, this can be a double-edged sword. Either you get better and become an independent student, or you don't find that motivation and get worse. My favourite subjects included Modern History, English Studies and Art (can you tell I'm right-brained?) The teachers here are awesome; they played a huge role in students' development. I've heard the fees have gone up around three times since 2006 when I graduated, but I would highly recommend this college - it's such a great experience and you make the best of friends. Love it.

This school also prides itself on diversity. Yet the majority of the staff including The Principal , Vice Principal , all the office and the vast majority of teaching staff are women. They do have a male music and a male PE teacher. I pulled my child out of this school last year when I was told that it's the parents job to teach the times tables. Since putting my child into an independent school It's clear she's lacking basic educational skills. It's these basics that are being neglected in favour of promoting social agendas. While some social agendas may be important, this school does not have the balance right. To clarify my child was in mainstream not the Steiner program they run. On the plus side the school does have beautiful grounds and the children that attend are good natured and well mannered.

This means the yearly fee for all students is $555, instead of the thousands you would be obliged to pay to attend any other all girls school in the state. I found the curriculum followed and level of support generally to be of a high standard. These factors, were of course, as I am sure they are in all schools dependant on the teachers taking the classes. Some clearly appealed to my style of learning more than others. The school day runs from 8:40 am to 3:15 pm. I found the sporting and extra-curricular areas especially rewarding. There are also several opportunities provided by the school to do a small amount of travel, on organised camps and excursions. The facilities were generally very good with a large gymnasium, large open greenspace, shaded quadrangle and even a swimming pool on the campus. There is a small tuck shop and all but final year students are not allowed to go off campus during the school day.

They know the best ways to teach us, and they help us learn to become strong, independent, intelligent young women. I feel quite comfortable and safe when I am with my teachers. An all-girls environment does not work for all people, but it did for me. I feel confident with myself and transitioning into uni and Tafe in a couple of years. I feel the school has excelled in what it needs to do for youth education and more life skills.
