We did not get to see all the floors but were very impressed by what we did see. I do want to note that they do not offer reciprocity with other museum passes so we did have to pay full price.

Inside has intricate, rotating exhibits that are hands-on and informational at a level that all ages can appreciate. Outdoors is a huge sports complex featuring a track, a racecourse, realistic mini fields and courts as well as several putt putt courses for all skill levels. It's a little more weather dependent but truly amazing. The whole museum is so well maintained and staffed by thoughtful, caring people who really seem to enjoy their jobs and are always willing and able to help. Food is relatively affordable but the best food is bar far the tacos outside. My only complaint is that lately the bees (or wasps or whatever) have been really bad near the restaurant, and will literally try to eat anything, even cheese or chicken. They are ruthless. If they're bad when you come, grab food outside and take it indoors to the bee-free cafeteria.

My kids are 2 and 3, and we easily spent about 2.5-3 hours exploring. There was SO much to do that we actually ended up spending most of our Terre Haute day here instead of making it to the other places I had planned. What I loved most was that the exhibits weren't just fun -- they encouraged kids to learn through play. There were opportunities to pretend to be construction workers, veterinarians and farmers, dig for dinosaur bones, explore engineering and physics, learn about seasons, and so much more. My kids especially loved the construction area, sand table, water play, pretend-play areas, Amazing Airways and the giant bubble you can actually stand inside! They also have a two-story treehouse, toddler area, Fit Gym, Fresh & Fit Market/Kitchen, and their new Wonders of the Wabash water exhibit. There are three floors, so there was plenty to explore. I also really appreciated that there were activities for different ages, although some features -- like the ropes course -- have height requirements. My kids weren't tall enough for that yet. Admission is very reasonable at $9 for ages 2+, with children under 2 free. They're also part of the Access Pass Program and offer Toddler Tuesdays. If you're visiting Terre Haute with kids, I would definitely put this on your list! We could have easily spent even longer here.

Yes, I win! All kidding aside, you can spend as much or as little time as you want in this historical museum, and you'll get something out of it. If you want to read all of the things, then you'll spend more time here, for sure. I'm more of a vibes person when it comes to museums, so I enjoyed wandering through the exhibits, taking in the scenery, and letting my feelings about what I saw wash over me. I wandered out of the main museum to the Wah-ba-shik-a Nature Center, which is on the Tippecanoe Battlefield grounds. It's a small nature center with some interesting things to see. I talked to the friendly docent who had a table at the entrance, and she told me a little about the history of the nature center. In the nature center and the museum, there aren't too many hands-on activities. It's mostly things to see and read, which is great for older kids and adults, but is a little bit of a bummer for younger kids. But if you have younger kids who need physical stimulation, take them outside to explore the rest of Battlefield Park. There are creeks and wide open spaces and woods and bridges and lots of things to explore.

We stayed in the parking lot which had 2 entrances, so an easy pull-through with our travel trailer and was mostly flat. A large 5th wheel also stayed the night and there was plenty of room for both of us. It is easy off-on IN Highway 31. There is some highway noise, but it died down in the evening and we slept well. It felt safe, maybe the proximity to the Air Base helped with that feeling. And we loved having the views of the aircraft displays out of our camper windows. We did patronize the Grissom Air Museum. Truly the little museum was well-done and felt way more personal than a big national museum. The guys who work here were all very knowlegable and happy to share all kinds of tidbits about the displays with us. The walk-through park outside was cool and we enjoyed the special planes and aircraft in their collection here.

We got to meet Eva and talk to her about her experiences, which was very cool. I, now an adult, recently visited again. Eva has now passed away, but her story and legacy is laced throughout this museum. The museum staff was very respectful and knowledgeable. You can let them guide you through the museum or go at your own pace. It's a small museum, but it has very cool exhibits and the personal touch from a real survivor is awesome. I, as a teacher, enjoyed the various discussion questions prompted throughout the museum, which I assume are mostly for school children on trips. After all, teaching children history, how to spot a leader or policy that doesn't have everyone's best interest in mind, and compassion is the best way to prevent another tragic event like the Holocaust.

The show was really good, but what I liked best about the entire experience is that you could bring in your own food and beverages. No matter where you were seated on the lawn, you could bring in a cooler, pizza, take-out, deli sandwiches...whatever you like. Some folks had really nice set-ups, and others arrived with nothing more than a folded lawn chair under their arm. Children ran free and folks made their way up to the dance floor positioned directly in front of the stage. I look forward to returning again in the future. It was really nice. Beware of the dragonflies. They were the size of my hand!

My granddaughter and I both learned why an iron is called an iron, because it was a hunk of iron heated in a fire and then inserted into what looks like today's iron with a handle. I have visited many museums of this same time period, including Spring Mill State Park, but this time it really struck me how hard life was in the early 1800s just to survive. From growing your own food to making your own cloth, to making your own clothing, it was a full day of providing sustenance. My granddaughter loved Animal Encounters especially the lambs. The temperature hit 90 degrees by noon so we left early and didn't do the hot air balloon or the Apple House.

He does not remember the first time we took them, but I was blown away by the caliber of this outdoor space (and museum, of course). The sports park is divided into sections dedicated to basketball, football, baseball, hockey, soccer, racing, and had a quarter mile track that looped around the perimeter. Everything is super interactive and educational. Not to mention, the enormous treehouse! The weather was beautiful and we clocked three hours outdoors! The Haan Museum houses the largest collection of Indiana art in the world. Most of it is inside a…read morehistoric mansion that was originally built for the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair, but some art work is dotted around the garden outside. The museum features paintings, Indiana ceramics, sculptures and antique American furniture. Visitors can explore rotating exhibitions with a guided or self-guided tour Wednesdays through Saturdays. Outside, the sculpture garden provides a peaceful space for reflection and creativity. I took a guided tour, and it was about an hour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the collection, and provided us with details about every single thing. Who knew that I'd find information about a bed frame interesting? After the tour, we were encouraged to spend some time checking out the garden, which has a lot of artwork and pretty plants and flowers everywhere. It was nice to sit on one of the benches and take in the beautiful scenery in the garden.

Why bother visiting if the mansion is closed, you ask. There is a cute sculpture garden behind the mansion that is open even when the mansion is closed. There are close to 30 sculptures. It is really fun to take a walk through the garden and see the statues. It will give you something to talk about and plenty of photo opportunities. If the outside is this fun, I can't wait to see the inside!
