In the end, after several days of troubleshooting, Jake fixed it by microsoldering the motherboard. When I asked for a 4GB stick of RAM, besides the fact that they were misinformed on what kind my computer required, they went on to tell me that it costs "$130, but I'll sell it to you for $115" - my, what a great deal this must be one might think - well, think again. That same, identical RAM could be bought online for around $45. Essentially, their markup was more than 50%! These are among the reasons I haven't gone back in 5 years and the only reason I went this time was for convenience as it's close to my house, but clearly... nothing has changed since.
