They had mechanical difficulties for our trip back but it turned out to be such a wonderful side trip... we took a ride back to port Clyde and were met with a staff member- his name is Thomas and wow!! He was brilliant- so intelligent, well informed, well spoken and just a pleasure to be around!! He made all the difference in an otherwise difficult situation.

The Good: *About a twenty minute drive from gorgeous Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. *Staff was friendly *You're not stuck in your seat for the entire journey as you're free to move about once the boat gets going. *About as close as one can get to the puffins without going on the island they hangout. *Overall, it was a really fun boat ride and you get to see some neat stuff. The Meh: *It's not cheap at $51/adults (13+) and Kids (2-12) *They have a representative from National Audibon on the boat which is awesome--but you can't hear a weird she says thru their archaic "sound" system. Between the waves and engine noise, she could've been reading the dictionary for all we know. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The Meh: *Their "off-site" parking lot is definitely just that--off-site! It's a good 10min walk from the parking to the pier, but that's not even the worst of it. You have to walk on a two-lane road with almost no shoulder and lots of curves, so definitely be aware of your surroundings. Or it'll coy-tains for you, see? Coy-tains! *And--as if the above wasn't bad enough--they have the gall to charge you $20 for the pleasure of parking there. -_- Conclusion: Fun ocean adventure to see the puffins--but be prepared to crack open your wallet for this pleasure.

PLEASE NOTE: This review is for their Audubon Puffin Cruise…read more This is a MUST DO experience in Maine. Despite living here most of my life, I'm not sure I had ever really seen puffins, so I was delighted to find there was a place in Boothbay offering tours (I guess I kind of assumed they were always much further up the coast). Cap'n Fish's Cruises family-friendly, accessible 2.5 hour long cruise to see the puffins on Eastern Egg Rock is a delight. The captain and the representative from the National Audubon Society do a fantastic job at pointing out any/all coastal wildlife that they see ("at your 6 o'clock there's a seal", "just flying by from your 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock are two puffins") from start to finish of the cruise. They also add facts about the islands and information about the lighthouses you'll pass, while adding a dash of local lore here and there too! You'll learn so, so much about the Audubon Society's work at re-establishing a puffin colony here in Maine, how they're helping other bird colonies around the world, and lots of information about Maine's seabirds. When you get to Eastern Egg Rock, they'll maintain a safe distance and circle twice so that way both sides of the boats can take pics. Some notes: 1) It's probably worth it to pay the extra 15% for priority boarding so you can pick the seat you want. Our cruise left at 10am, and by 9am the line was *enormous*. I didn't think I'd get to sit outside on the top of the boat (the seats are configured in two rows of four with an aisle down the center). 2) There are snacks and drinks for purchase. You can also bring your own food, but not your own beverages (unless it's a water bottle, I think). 3) Don't forget your sunscreen and sunglasses, well-fitting hats and a hoodie just in case it's cooler on the water (and, for the from-awayers: it's usually ten degrees cooler on the water). 4) I didn't need my ticket, I just gave them my name when I boarded. 5) The staff was EXCEPTIONAL: again, from start to finish, they were friendly, helpful, informative, patient. Really, really impressed! The whole thing was just a lovely experience.

Always best to sit on top deck and in the stearn (rear) for a 270° view throughout. However, remember to bring a hat, apply suntan lotion and depending on the temperature bring a windjacket.

We only had 2 hours available, so we focused largely on the exhibits. The museum includes various buildings which highlight different aspect of shipbuilding from caulking, blacksmithing, and building skiffs (modern day boats used to travel on Maine's coastal waterways). We loved the exhibit on lobstering in Maine - with superb displays that showed why Maine's lobsters are prized worldwide (they have the best claw meat), and a colorful display of buoys and traps. Talking with volunteers about the art of woodcarving and building skiffs was very interesting. It was cool to see the flagpoles (representing the Wyoming schooner) and Bath Iron Works in the distance (a current shipyard for the U.S. Navy). Since we only had 2 hours available from 10am-12pm, we could not join the afternoon lighthouse cruises (which looked like fun). Overall, we enjoyed our visit to the Maine Maritime Museum! You'll learn a lot about Bath's proud history of shipbuilding and the tradition of lobstering in Maine.

I have done cruises, taken classes, and attended dinners here, and each experience was such a treat! I know that I will NEVER again watch fireworks from shore when it was so much better to watch them from the water. I highly recommend becoming a Museum member, not just for the event discounts, but just to have access to the beautiful grounds. I have whiled away more than one afternoon, watching the beautiful Kennebec River and all the wildlife from the grassy shore. This Museum is so much more than a museum; it's a celebration of Bath's relationship with the sea. If I could give this more than 5 stars, I would!

For $100 (cash or check only), you receive a 55-minute narrated boat tour, a bonafide Downeast feast (fish chowder, 1 lb. of steamers, 2 lobsters, corn on the cob, a baked potato, an onion, a hard-boiled egg, a large piece of blueberry cake & either coffee, tea, iced tea or water). You can purchase sodas ($2) or alcoholic beverages. We indulged in the light & tasty Cabbage Island Aide ($10), with Pinnacle blueberry vodka, pink lemonade & a splash of club soda garnished with Maine blueberries. Only cash is accepted for drinks and gift shop purchases. After finding a picnic table, either indoors or out, your server will take your drink order & bring your fish chowder. Shortly afterwards, the dinner bell will ring & you head down to the pit where the food is cooked to pick up your meal. Our delightful young server, Griffin, graciously offered to pick up our trays & bring them to our table. He remained attentive & solicitous the entire time we were there. We couldn't have asked for better service. There is a gratuity jar on each table. Tip generously! These kids do a fabulous job! We were also pleased that the two Moore brothers who have owned this family business for 38 years stopped by every table individually to ensure that all were having a good time. And at the end of the day, they stood on the dock waving as our boat left Cabbage Island. Such a gracious gesture! I'm looking forward to making this an annual event. Please be aware, though, that parking is expensive in Boothbay Harbor. There is metered street parking, if you can find an open spot, but be prepared to walk a distance to the ticket booth. Close by lot parking cost $50.
