This is a Springfield staple. This paper has given us all the events and news from around town for years. In the 80s I remember it being THE paper for community theater reviews. We used to wait up all night Wednesday to grab the edition, hot off the presses. Support Local Journalism. read more

A free newspaper that I picked up on my travels, the Illinois Times is local news that affects the Illinois capital region. Published weekly and distributed on Thursdays with a circulation of around 28,000 copies. The newspaper was founded in 1977. This week's edition included the cover story about a regional sports complex and articles about tuition costs and discussion on the state's nuclear moratorium. No comics but there's a crossword and sudoku puzzle. You'll also find a calendar of events in the area including music performances, festivals and other gatherings. I ONLY get this for the crossword and because it's free (and still overpriced at that). This week they omitted about a dozen of the crossword clues. Liberal rag not worth bending over to pick up. read more

Years ago, they had first responders and police departments displaying vehicles and doing fingerprinting for children. A Costco would be nice or a furniture store. Update. Went to the mall today and saw the Christmas trees. It was very well done, I hope for more people to participate next year!! Maybe they could contact a train group and have them set up a christmas train. Or the mall could utilize the empty store fronts and put in some decorations in the windows. Some additional photo opportunities would also be nice. Gingerbread cookies would be a hit as would live christmas music or swing choirs. Contact schools and churches.
