Some of the better Italian food we've had in Berlin. On that alone this place was a solid 4 stars. Where they fell down though was the incredibly rude server. By far the rudest we had experienced this far in our time here. He barked at us, cut us short multiple times and then at the end while we paid had the audacity to tell us it is the custom to tip in Germany. Yeah no shit asshole. But it isn't a custom anywhere I know of to tip for egregiously rude service.

The thought of food was revolting. It was all I could do to rise from my mattress on the floor. It wasn't a good day. I agreed to go out, mainly because she would feel better if I ate something and even better than that, if she ate something. Then she wanted to go someplace on the nearest street, a place she'd been before which didn't interest me at all. Even in my hampered state I still was who I was; I wasn't willing to go just anyplace. "Let's walk down here" I said, leading the way down a side street off the main drag, "I saw a place here the other day that looked interesting". She wanted to make me happy I guess, so she was willing, this time, to walk the long extra block for her food reward. Good food. That is what I can tell you about Cenacolo. It was mid-afternoon and not very busy. We sat inside near a warm pizza oven. I ordered a very good pizza. It had a nicely blistered crust, arugula, juicy cherry tomatoes, and cured meat. If anything would take away the absinthe blues this pizza was it. It began to work its magic. She was quite complementary of her Saltimbocca. This is good food here at Cenacolo. Not the sort of food I generally go for but something about well prepared Italian warms the soul and brings one back to life. It worked on me, maybe not while I was sitting there, but as I left I felt a bit less wrecked. Head down a side street off the main drag and discover something good. Cenacolo, their soul-warming pizza, and their praise-worthy Saltimbocca await. * Menus in English available upon request. * Quite extensive menu offerings, all swimming in the Italian food pond.

Nothing against German food, but I didn't want anything too heavy so I figured Italian would be great. Checking on Yelp, I found I was close to a couple of pizza places but this one looked best so I stopped in. It was 8 pm on a Friday night and there were only three tables occupied and I thought "Uh oh, this place should be packed" but since I was hungry AND too lazy to go someplace else, I sat down. The professional gentleman who was waiting on the tables was efficient and friendly (more friendly that most of the German waiters I had during my time there, which isn't meant to bash anyone, it's just that most service was more business like). I ordered a beer and a pizza and was surprised at the generous portion that came out! I think my bill was about €15 and change and it was so much food I couldn't eat it! The pizza was good (could have been baked in the oven a bit more but that's just my preference) and my beer was delicious. Definitely a great spot for a nice meal that won't break the bank.
