I was so excited to learn about this place and made a trip to Parco di Valentino just to visit. This is an open air museum adjacent to the Rive Po constructed in 1884 and designed to look exactly like a medieval village. Crossing over the threshold you feel as if transported to the 15th century. A variety of work shops and a church await you, along with a couple of gift shops. Public restrooms are located to the left of the entrance (€1 to enter) and vending machines are just beyond. According to a video playing in the vending machine area (in Italian) the village was recreated using historical buildings as the template and I must say they did a wonderful job.
You can visit their website for details about the village itself and how it came to be. The castle is a paid ticket but the village is free. On a hot day, it was nice and cool in the little village. Inside the 'church' is an photo exhibit that is worth taking a look. If you like, get your photo taken 'in a suit of armor'.
A small cafe for snacks and beverages is located in a courtyard of the village. There was also a small room full of art supplies and long tables - looks like a place for children's activities. Across the street from the castle is a lovely garden that is also worth a visit while in the area. read more
