This was the type of restaurant I was searching for, a nicer Italian place that didn't seem…read moretouristy or questionable. It is located on a busy street, the space inside is big, and the service was pretty good. You receive a little basket of bread with a side of, I believe, ricotta cheese, but don't recall, just that it wasn't butter. I opted for the gnocchi. I was pretty disappointed by it. The gnocchi itself was pretty mushy, and the sauce was bland...just tomato sauce with no seasoning. Perhaps a different entree would be better, but I found a lot of the food in BA to be bland and underwhelming.

In Buenos Aires for a month and living nearby, we stopped in early on a Friday night about 8:30 PM…read more We were on our way back to our apartment discussing our dinner options when we walked by and the charm of the restaurant caught our eye. With the folded napkins on each plate, the cloth or leather table tops, and the elegance of the waiters, the ample wooden molding, it all looked welcoming. By 9:30, the place was packed and there weren't any seats available. The menus were in Spanish and English so we had no difficulty in figuring out what to order. The waiters were very friendly despite the fact there was a language gap. Ample supply of excellent bread was always available. Our dinners were excellent (One seafood and one beef). The only area of ordering that wasn't clear was the size of the salads. We thought we we ordering a small salad to accompany our dinner, but it turned out that one salad would have large enough for two people, so we brought the excess home. I agree with the comments about the tables being very close. Overall a very charming place with by good food and a real neighborhood feel to it. Looking forwards to going back.

La Mama Rosa is definitely a must for anyone craving traditional old school Italian cuisine…read more We waited 15 minutes for a table at 8:30 (we had no reservation, I would recommend one though if possible) then we waited 45 minutes for food after ordering. The thing was, we just didn't care-we knew it was worth the wait. Spaghetti with the "mama rosa" salsa. Speechless I was. And a Bife de tire(strip steak) this was marbled throughout but with their incredible chimichhurri(we went through 2 dishes of it) it's great. Cafe con leche to finish. All for less than 50 USD. Go. You won't regret it.

We got gnocchis bolognesa, and sweetbreads with scallions and milanesa, and Lasagna, (little problem with this one that had a hair in it, we sent it back no prob, accidents happen) and coffee and desserts, ice cream and Sambayon Cream. Total tab was like us$80 for a party of six with a bottle of wine. This is a typical cantina located in a corner. Great spot. Waiter told me that they are full every day. I believe it, food was very good.
