Ohhhh boy... what can I say? Get the shovels out and start digging the grave for this festival. Money grab? Out of touch promoters? Food trucks and club headliners to separate you from your money? Ding, ding, ding!
Let's start here. We get the idea. It's not all a fail. A nice medium festival in late February where kids on vacation can spend two hundred to listen to music. Here's your first problem. Out of towners dont come until early, but more mid March for spring break. So the audience is pulled from locals. The same locals that a couple weeks earlier went to a three week Art Basel festival. The same locals that have dozens of festivals in that area all year long... including Ultrafest less then three months from now and Rolling Loud a month or so around that. (Note: all festivals with MUCH bigger headliners)
What does that mean? It's empty. Like being the only one in a movie theatre. Whole areas of the festival have no one in them. Stages are bare bones past the first ten rows. ITS BAD!
Yeah, they have the quirks. Silent disco, bouncy houses, beer gardens and food trucks. Get past the fake exterior and there's no soul or feel here. The festival is boring! I mean BORING! The headliners were Herbie Hancock and then the next day Tyler The Creator. WHAT?!?! Yup. Rumors are next year is Tony Bennett and Insane Clown Posse. Cause that makes just as much sense.
Listen, end of the day it's promoters tacking club acts that pull 1-2,000 people and put them in a giant outdoor stage with no real support. Line the ground with overpriced nachos, burgers with eggs, Art projections on walls and fifteen dollar craft beer. Bad! Bad! Bad! Here's a thought, go spend a twenty to see your favorite act at the Fillmore and then go eat dinner at a nice restaurant followed by a walk around street murals. You'll get a better feel and save two hundred dollars.
This festival would be amazing in Tampa or Orlando in markets that don't have festivals and would support this and crave it, but clown promoters always need to be too cool. Just stupid business!
Honestly, don't waste your time. I'd be surprised if it's still a thing in two years. Start writing the epitaph. "Here is the III Points Festival. The worst festival in Miami rather than the best festival in St. Petersburg without changing a thing." read more
